  106. [18:04] <Klaimen> Robit, you should be proud!
  107. [18:04] <RobitStudios> so, even though fetal wasn't at the convention she got the most compliments (or her art did at least)
  108. [18:04] <fetalstar> i was there in spirit :3
  109. [18:04] <everettjlamb> all like the art :)
  110. [18:05] <everettjlamb> art visual/style
  111. [18:05] <Klaimen> that is really cool to hear
  112. [18:05] <RobitStudios> yeah, it was definitely the most common comment on the game
  113. [18:05] <beta_red> Definitely!  We had a lot of people come up just b/c they were just digging the art style
  114. [18:06] <RobitStudios> we were in a great location on the floor (which is in part because I got there so early)
  115. [18:06] <RobitStudios> so the banner was positioned so lots of people could see it
  116. [18:06] <Klaimen> oh so it was first come first serve?
  117. [18:06] <RobitStudios> and that banner definitely drew people in
  118. [18:06] <fetalstar> whaat you got to pick your spt?
  119. [18:06] <fetalstar> spot
  120. [18:06] <Mazey> did the banner show some fetalstar-art
  121. [18:06] <RobitStudios> yeah, exactly
  122. [18:06] <fetalstar> i never got to do that with conventions
  123. [18:06] <fetalstar> >:C
  124. [18:07] <RobitStudios> yeah hang on i'll get a pic of the banner
  125. [18:07] <Mazey> with Game Dev Tycoon you need to buy a spot at a convention

  130. [18:07] <fetalstar> at a con
  131. [18:08] <beta_red> Yeah, the banner was awesome fetalstar art--it was so cool seeing the full-size banner
  132. [18:08] <everettjlamb> consider making the banner art a wallpaper

  135. [18:08] <Klaimen> that looks so cool
  136. [18:08] <fetalstar> the banner art is too thin to be a wallpaper ^^;;
  137. [18:08] <beta_red> It was glorious :)
  138. [18:08] <fetalstar> i'd have to redraw a ton of it
  139. [18:08] <fetalstar> well, add a lot onto it
  140. [18:08] <everettjlamb> ah, just a suggestion :P
  141. [18:08] <fetalstar> maybe something artsy-fartsy and sideways ;D
  142. [18:08] <RobitStudios> it would be good if you had your monitor set up vertically
  143. [18:09] <Chris_PI> do they stream somethink XD ???
  144. [18:09] <RobitStudios> or for a tablet BG
  145. [18:09] <everettjlamb> good thinking of the vertical aspect
  146. [18:09] <Mazey> fetalstar, draw a pig for me
  147. [18:09] <RobitStudios> didnt you ask that last time?
  148. [18:10] <Mazey> not that i know

  153. [18:10] <Klaimen> you even had a couple days off during minecon :D
  154. [18:11] <RobitStudios> yeah, im sure she was just playing games while we were busting ass
  155. [18:11] <fetalstar> ff14 raids wait for nothing!!
  156. [18:11] <Klaimen> haha
  157. [18:11] <Klaimen> how many people got to test the demo?
  158. [18:11] <Klaimen> just roughly counted
  159. [18:12] <RobitStudios> we estimated about 100 people played? right beta?
  160. [18:12] <Klaimen> 100!
  161. [18:12] <RobitStudios> that might be a little high though
  162. [18:12] <beta_red> Yeah, It's really hard to tell, we had people at the booth just about constantly--with literally about 10 minutes (cumulative) downtime each day
  163. [18:12] <Mazey> RobitStudios, mind linking that demo to your awesome backers
  164. [18:12] <RobitStudios> some people sat and played for 10-15 mins but a lot of people jsut for a couple mins
  165. [18:13] <Klaimen> they left early cause the queue was so long and they wanted others to play, too?
  166. [18:13] <Pave> Well, it was "Minecon" after all. And to me knowledge at least, I believe many of the visitors were mainly there for Minecraft and related...
  167. [18:13] <Klaimen> oh
  168. [18:14] <Klaimen> i always forget about that lol
  169. [18:14] <beta_red> Yeah, we had a few people leave due to long lines, but quite a few came back on day 2 and got to play
  170. [18:14] <Pave> But still having curious players testdriving the game is decent already.
  171. [18:14] <RobitStudios> you know, i should probably do that, Mazey - i kind of wanted to tweak a couple of things before i release it - but if anyone here wants to try the demo email me and i'll get it to you steveorlando@gmail.com
  172. [18:14] <Klaimen> how long do you think the tweaking will take?
  173. [18:14] <RobitStudios> hopefully just another week or so
  174. [18:15] <Klaimen> hm hm hm
  175. [18:15] <RobitStudios> i took abotu a page of notes watching people play the game
  176. [18:15] <fetalstar> i think on my end, i just need to edit one npc animation, and add the nighttime ones
  177. [18:15] <Klaimen> can i wait that long
  178. [18:15] <RobitStudios> so i want to implement some of that stuff first
  179. [18:15] <Pave> Hah, I'm more than happy to help with optimization; my current computer is such a perfect "disaster" and "nightmare" to devs. :P
  180. [18:15] <Klaimen> ok. so waiting will be worth it i guess?
  181. [18:15] <Mazey> check your email
  182. [18:15] <Mazey> lol
  183. [18:15] <Pave> Aka. it's far from ideal testing-enviroment builds. XD
  184. [18:15] <RobitStudios> yeah, if you can wait a week or so it'll be a better experience for you
  185. [18:16] <Klaimen> tempting!
  186. [18:16] <Klaimen> i'll wait for now
  187. [18:16] <Klaimen> will it be ok for you if i stream the game live on twitch?
  188. [18:16] <RobitStudios> well Pave, thats good to know, the game needs some optimization for sure and I'd like to test it on a rig like yours
  189. [18:16] <RobitStudios> yeah for sure, once i get the demo out I want people to stream it or youtube it
  190. [18:17] <Klaimen> great!
  191. [18:17] <RobitStudios> ok Mazey, since you can't wait i'll get you a copy of the demo
  192. [18:17] <Mazey> great!
  193. [18:17] <RobitStudios> i'll do it after the chat
  194. [18:17] <RobitStudios> :)
  195. [18:18] <fetalstar> hey stephen! link it to me later too, i don't think i have the actual finished minecon version
  196. [18:18] <Ordine> Yay I woke up just in time.
  197. [18:18] <Klaimen> graaaa i want it too now!!
  198. [18:18] <Klaimen> lol
  199. [18:18] <darcro> If I can ask, what did you guys think of BroForce and Desktop Dungeons, the South African creations?
  200. [18:18] <RobitStudios> oh man! well i've been playing desktop dugeons this weekend because its out now!
  201. [18:18] <RobitStudios> and i like but it's kicking my butt
  202. [18:18] <beta_red> I actually didn't get to play either of them, though I really wanted to!  I got to see them in action though, and they looked amazing!!
  203. [18:18] <Mazey> i really hope i like the movement

  206. [18:19] <RobitStudios> bro force is going to be the best party game ever
  207. [18:19] <Mazey> wait
  208. [18:19] <Mazey> RobitStudios, did i say TAS instead of TAW
  209. [18:19] <Mazey> ;-;
  210. [18:19] <RobitStudios> i played it with some of the other devs after the con closed
  211. [18:19] <RobitStudios> mazey, yes you did - its cool ;P
  212. [18:20] <darcro> My girlfriend worked with Evan from BroForce before he was doing FreeLives ^^
  213. [18:20] <RobitStudios> yeah, evan is awesome - super nice guy
  214. [18:20] <RobitStudios> i want to be his friend
  215. [18:20] <Klaimen> desktop dungeons looks really interesting. is it like isaac a bit?
  216. [18:20] <darcro> Hahaha yeah he is a really interesting guy :D
  217. [18:20] <beta_red> Yeah, it was really fun talking to Evan--he's a great guy
  218. [18:20] <RobitStudios> nothing like isaac really, well its got the random generation thing
  219. [18:21] <RobitStudios> but its a turn based game - where you really have to plan every move to suceed
  220. [18:21] <darcro> For Desktop Dungeons ~ Think more like Dungeons of Dredmor
  221. [18:21] <Klaimen> oooh ok. interesting!
  222. [18:21] <Klaimen> is there a demo?
  223. [18:21] <darcro> On their site I think
  224. [18:21] <RobitStudios> i think theres a freeware demo thing yeah
  225. [18:21] <darcro> speaking of demos
  226. [18:21] <RobitStudios> like an early alpha basically
  227. [18:21] <Klaimen> cool
  228. [18:22] <darcro> Im really glad you guys are getting a demo/beta out there for TAW
  229. [18:22] <Ordine> The free DD is still really good.
  230. [18:22] <Klaimen> should be enough to figure out if it's my thing
  231. [18:22] <RobitStudios> yeah, me too - doing minecon gave me the confidence to release a demo
  232. [18:22] <RobitStudios> and i also think we're going to do a sort of early access thing for backers now too
  233. [18:22] <darcro> From the stories I know of DD and BroForce, the free availability of their games helped them spread a lot
  234. [18:23] <RobitStudios> where we'll essentially update the demo with new areas of the game as we get the done
  235. [18:23] <Klaimen> that's really nice to hear!
  236. [18:23] <darcro> That's awesome
  237. [18:23] <darcro> I am always scared to play beta/demo though
  238. [18:23] <darcro> feels like im spoilering myself :P
  239. [18:24] <Ordine> I'm really digging TAW's remastered soundtrack BTW.
  240. [18:24] <RobitStudios> haha yeah i hear you - even thought i pre-order games with early access i almost never play them
  241. [18:24] <RobitStudios> i kind of want to get the full experience when its done
  242. [18:24] <darcro> That's exactly how I feel ^^
  243. [18:24] <RobitStudios> i mean, its so easy to get burnt out on a game
  244. [18:24] <RobitStudios> why do that to yourself before its even done
  245. [18:24] <darcro> Totally
  246. [18:24] <RobitStudios> thats just my opintion anyway
  247. [18:24] <beta_red> Thanks Ordine! :)  Glad to hear it!
  248. [18:24] <Klaimen> yeah. i guess so too, but since we know TAG it's kind of a different situation
  249. [18:24] <darcro> But it does seem to work for a lot of people
  250. [18:25] <darcro> They'll base their purchase on a trial
  251. [18:25] <Klaimen> it's like playing a remake, so that's fine for me
  252. [18:25] <Klaimen> (actually it is lol)
  253. [18:25] <RobitStudios> thats true - plus with a game like tag (not a sandbox style game) there's always going to be stuff you havent seen until the game is released
  254. [18:25] <RobitStudios> *taw
  255. [18:26] <Klaimen> yeah you wrote in the blog that you are hiding super secret things
  256. [18:26] <Ordine> How goes the Steam Greenlight?
  257. [18:26] <Klaimen> i wonder what those will be :P
  258. [18:26] <darcro> tbh, I preordered TAW after playing TAG, but I stopped playing TAG very quickly because I didnt want to see too much xD
  259. [18:26] <Ordine> I see a lot of supporting comments, but how exactly does a project get approved?
  260. [18:27] <RobitStudios> Ordine, thats a good question
  261. [18:27] <RobitStudios> after talking to other devs who have been greenlit it seems like no one really knows
  262. [18:27] <darcro> lol xD
  263. [18:27] <Ordine> LOL
  264. [18:27] <RobitStudios> part of it has to do with your number of "yes" votes
  265. [18:27] <darcro> When Gabe gives the nod, it happens
  266. [18:28] <RobitStudios> but the other part has to do with what kind of heat the game has - and acutally getting in to things like minecon are helpful
  267. [18:28] <Klaimen> weird!!
  268. [18:28] <Mazey> why greenlight
  269. [18:28] <Mazey> you could also try to bypass it and get it directly on steam
  270. [18:28] <Klaimen> yeah, you have a publisher
  271. [18:28] <Klaimen> i hear that works
  272. [18:28] <darcro> Hmm interesting point
  273. [18:28] <Mazey> contact valve
  274. [18:29] <darcro> Why are chucklefish's other games going straight to steam?
  275. [18:29] <darcro> well... risk of rain just did
  276. [18:29] <RobitStudios> we are working on that actually
  277. [18:29] <darcro> wanderlust is there, and dunno about stardew
  278. [18:29] <RobitStudios> the demo is going to be going to steam when its ready
  279. [18:29] <RobitStudios> they want to play the game first before making a decision like that
  280. [18:29] <Klaimen> without being greenlit?
  281. [18:29] <Klaimen> oh
  282. [18:29] <RobitStudios> sorry
  283. [18:30] <Klaimen> to valve
  284. [18:30] <RobitStudios> i worded that wrong
  285. [18:30] <RobitStudios> i mean we're going to send it to the people who make those decisions at steam
  286. [18:30] <Mazey> i wish they'd port RoR to linux
  287. [18:30] <Mazey> id buy it
  288. [18:30] <Klaimen> yeah ok
  289. [18:30] <darcro> Ah cool
  290. [18:30] <darcro> What is your relationship with chucklefish?
  291. [18:30] <Klaimen> interesting how all that works
  292. [18:30] <darcro> i mean, how did you get connected?
  293. [18:30] <RobitStudios> but they wont approve a game until they get to try it
  294. [18:31] <RobitStudios> dacro - Tiy played TAG at some point and liked it - and he contacted me about working together for a commerical remake
  295. [18:31] <darcro> Ah thats awesome ^^
  296. [18:31] == everettjlamb [~everettjl@CPEc8fb2643fc31-CMc8fb2643fc2e.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
  297. [18:32] <RobitStudios> and i thought it would be a good idea to work with someone like him - since i was basically a no body in the game industry
  298. [18:32] <RobitStudios> connections are super important
  299. [18:32] <RobitStudios> its thanks to chucklefish that we got into minecon
  300. [18:32] <darcro> I can imagine they make dealing with steam significantly easier too?
  301. [18:33] <RobitStudios> yeah, exactly- they already have a contact person - and thats who i will be sending the demo to when its readt
  302. [18:33] <RobitStudios> and as long as he likes it - we should be good to go
  303. [18:33] <darcro> Great news :D
  304. [18:34] <RobitStudios> but even if we have to go straight greenlight we're doing pretty good
  305. [18:34] <RobitStudios> we're 90% of the way to the top 100
  306. [18:34] <Klaimen> amazing
  307. [18:34] <beta_red> Woohoo! :)
  308. [18:34] <darcro> Congrats :D
  309. [18:34] <RobitStudios> thanks - we pushed greenlight hard at the convention
  310. [18:34] <Ordine> Nice
  311. [18:35] <RobitStudios> handed out cards with a QR code to the greenlight page
  312. [18:35] <fetalstar> oh man! did that actually work the way we wanted it to?
  313. [18:35] <fetalstar> like did the business cards work out really well?
  314. [18:35] <RobitStudios> yeah there was a spike in votes this week - so it seems so
  315. [18:35] <darcro> You said you had around 100 people playing your demo, but how much traffic do you think you had coming passed your stand, getting those sorta cards?
  316. [18:35] <beta_red> Was anyone here in the chat at minecon by any chance?
  317. [18:35] <Klaimen> that's really cool
  318. [18:35] <beta_red> I mean, other than stephen and I
  319. [18:36] <Ordine> I wish I lived in the USA or something.
  320. [18:36] <RobitStudios> yeah, so many people just stopped by and grabbed buttons and cards
  321. [18:36] <RobitStudios> and some people just watched the game and talked to us about it
  322. [18:36] <Ordine> So hard to get into cons or grab some merch.
  323. [18:36] <RobitStudios> so we really interacted with a lot of people
  324. [18:36] <RobitStudios> where do you live, ordine?
  325. [18:36] <darcro> heh Ordine, I know the feel!
  326. [18:36] <Ordine> Philippines.
  327. [18:36] <RobitStudios> oh wow, yeah thats quite a hike
  328. [18:37] <darcro> I saw your merch on your news page and was 10xjealous
  329. [18:37] <Ordine> Right.
  330. [18:37] <Klaimen> those buttons would sure be nice to have ;D
  331. [18:37] <RobitStudios> im going to give away some merch on twitter soon - i have a bunch of buttons left
  332. [18:37] <darcro> Ship international? xD
  333. [18:37] <Klaimen> robit, talking about the greenlight page
  334. [18:37] <Ordine> Cool.
  335. [18:37] <darcro> like....South Africa direction? :P
  336. [18:38] <Klaimen> maybe you should add a link to the pre-order page
  337. [18:38] <RobitStudios> i will - but since its kind of costly im going to ship im going to set it up like a contest - so for like every tweet about the game you get put in a drawing
  338. [18:38] <RobitStudios> and i'll send out packs of swag
  339. [18:38] <Klaimen> there are links to all kinds of place, but not where the money must go X)
  340. [18:38] <RobitStudios> yeah! thats a good call klaimen
  341. [18:38] <darcro> a bag o' swag!
  342. [18:39] <Ordine> Funny thing about shipping in RP is that the shipping costs are way higher than the item itself.
  343. [18:39] <darcro> yeah lol... ebay shopping, $3 for item, ships for $20
  344. [18:39] <RobitStudios> yeah, exactly - but since they're just buttons i'll put them in envelopes or something
  345. [18:40] <Ordine> Ain't nobody got time for that
  346. [18:40] <RobitStudios> hopefully it'll keep the cost down
  347. [18:40] <Klaimen> yeah that shouldn't be too high shipping costs
  348. [18:40] <darcro> yeah ordinary post should be much better
  349. [18:40] <beta_red> Yeah, I remember my roommate and I bought E.T. for atari for a penny, and the shipping was…not a penny.
  350. [18:40] <Klaimen> doesn't matter if it takes like 6 weeks
  351. [18:40] <Pave> Heh. Being a Finn myself, money-things are a bit more complex over here.
  352. [18:40] <Klaimen> beta_red, why would you buy THAT game?!
  353. [18:40] <Ordine> You could say it cost him a lot of pennies
  354. [18:40] <beta_red> I don't know!!!  It was so bad!!!
  355. [18:40] <darcro> speaking of faraway countries, thanks for moving the chat time
  356. [18:41] <Klaimen> lol!
  357. [18:41] <beta_red> Haha! :D
  358. [18:41] <Ordine> Pffftlol
  359. [18:41] <Klaimen> oh yeah, this is a much better time
  360. [18:41] <RobitStudios> no problem, dacro - yeah it seems like most of my fans are actually NOT in the states so im trying to be flexible
  361. [18:41] <Silly> Hello
  362. [18:42] <RobitStudios> hi, Silly! welcome!
  363. [18:42] <Ordine> Hi
  364. [18:42] <beta_red> Hey Silly!  Welcome to the chat!
  365. [18:42] <Pave> I mean, sure one could get a more easier start as a game dev due unemployance benefits and such (since with info I've gotten, you only need to start worrying about taxes and such until your sales and so on exceed the benefits).
  366. [18:42] <fetalstar> hello!
  367. [18:42] <darcro> As game developers, how much time do you spend playing games? :P
  368. [18:42] <Pave> But in my personal case "I'd have to already have dunds to gain more funds", being a personal without sedan and living in the middle of nowehere. XD
  369. [18:42] == everettjlamb [~everettjl@CPEc8fb2643fc31-CMc8fb2643fc2e.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has joined #[REDACTED]
  370. [18:43] <Silly> Oh. The chat is still going. Was wondering if it was going to be one by the time I checked back. .
  371. [18:43] <RobitStudios> dacro - i really dont get much time - probably less than an hour a day on average
  372. [18:44] <RobitStudios> but i usually save that all up for the weekend
  373. [18:44] <beta_red> It's funny, when it's crunch time, with regards to dev, I have very little time to play any games, but when things get a bit more relaxed, I definitely spend a fair amount of time on them :)
  374. [18:44] <Ordine> Does that bother you?
  375. [18:44] <fetalstar> UH
  376. [18:44] <fetalstar> no comment
  377. [18:44] <RobitStudios> sort of - but i like making games more than playing them really
  378. [18:44] <RobitStudios> so im happy :)
  379. [18:44] <RobitStudios> and im just more selective about what i play
  380. [18:44] <Klaimen> what games did you play lately?
  381. [18:44] <Ordine> Ah. Not being able to play is kinda frustrating.
  382. [18:45] <darcro> Well atleast there are times that you get to play, hehe
  383. [18:45] <darcro> But I guess if making them is just as good, then no need
  384. [18:45] <Pave> I personally wish I could someday be some-sort-of game producer; my brain-capacity cannot handle deticated-jobs (such as coders and "arts"), but I still have the basic knowledges.
  385. [18:45] <RobitStudios> ive been playing desktop dungeons this weekend- but ive also been playing a lot of Luigis Mansion for the 3DS lately
  386. [18:45] <beta_red> It is kind-of ironic, but sometimes it works out well, b/c you don't get to buy a game until it's in the bargain bin, but then it feels like you're getting an amazing game for just a few bucks :)
  387. [18:46] <beta_red> I'm a demon's souls and dark souls fanatic.
  388. [18:46] <Ordine> Are you guys into Monster Hunter?
  389. [18:46] <Klaimen> hehe all cool :)
  390. [18:46] <beta_red> I dig monster hunter, but I wish it had a bit less text to read
  391. [18:46] <RobitStudios> i picked up the 3DS demo and ive been watching the GameGrumps play it - but thats about it
  392. [18:46] <Tolipohs> Waiting for 4 to come here.
  393. [18:47] * Pave looks at his digital shelves...
  394. [18:47] <darcro> Ive been writing up my thesis, and dsektop dungeons is perfect because you can drop in for a quick dungeon or 2, and you are done in2 0 minutes
  395. [18:47] <fetalstar> i've been playing ff14 :X
  396. [18:47] <centreti> out of curiosity (also idk if this has previously been addressed), what language(s)/framework(s), etc do you guys use to dev?
  397. [18:47] <Ordine> Ahh the "story" dialogue.
  398. [18:47] <darcro> 20 minutes*
  399. [18:47] <Ordine> MH4 sweet jesus. I haven't completed 3u yet, but I want it.
  400. [18:47] <Klaimen> i just realize i play almost only indie games nowadays
  401. [18:47] <Klaimen> well. and retro
  402. [18:48] <RobitStudios> centreti - we're using a middleware software called Construct (which is coded in c++) but it uses a combination of visual editor and python for scripting
  403. [18:48] <Pave> Monster Hunter Topic-wise, I personally like Freedom Unite and Portable 3rd most; Tri-ones and 4th are a bit too spectacle creeps to me...
  404. [18:48] <darcro> wow so most of the code is written in python?
  405. [18:48] <RobitStudios> its specifically geared for 2d games and is perfect for platformers
  406. [18:49] <Ordine> Stuff like this makes me regret that I kinda slept through my programming classes.
  407. [18:49] <centreti> thanks for the response :D
  408. [18:49] <beta_red> Yeah, exactly!  I dig dialogue in games, but I found with monster hunter, sometimes I'd spend like half the playtime in dialogue.  Monster Hunter is awesome though.
  409. [18:49] <centreti> Python is fun stuff!
  410. [18:49] <Klaimen> lol monster hunter sounds like metal gear solid then, when it comes to that
  411. [18:49] <Ordine> I would agree if somebody stated that MH3U was way easy.
  412. [18:49] <RobitStudios> a lot of functions are in python, but not all of them
  413. [18:49] <Ordine> Compared to MHF(U) at least.
  414. [18:50] <RobitStudios> since python runs a little slower i reserve it for things that dont run every frame
  415. [18:50] <Klaimen> Construct is HTML5 right?
  416. [18:50] <RobitStudios> the new Construct 2 is
  417. [18:50] <RobitStudios> but the one we're usign is Direct X
  418. [18:50] <Pave> Yeah, in my opinion, the spectacle creep of Metal gear series started on Sons of Liberty (the second Solid game), while the Third and other Big Boss related games kinda had their feets on ground.
  419. [18:51] <centreti> So you use the visual editor for everything that you don't use Python for?
  420. [18:51] <Klaimen> Pave, you're absolutely right
  421. [18:51] <RobitStudios> yeah and everything in the visual editors gets converted to C++ upon compiling
  422. [18:51] <darcro> So the Python isnt compiled down to C++ by construct? It remains interpreted?
  423. [18:51] == oj [~oj@cable-37-51.sssnet.com] has quit []
  424. [18:51] <centreti> Ahhh that sounds pretty neat
  425. [18:51] <Ordine> How did you guys make GOG put you in their library BTW.
  426. [18:52] <RobitStudios> yes, thats right, all the python code is interpreted at runtime
  427. [18:52] <RobitStudios> Ordine, they approached me about it when they were looking to get mroe into Indie games
  428. [18:52] <RobitStudios> since i had jsut released TAG as freeware
  429. [18:52] <RobitStudios> they wanted to include it as a freebie to their users
  430. [18:53] <Pave> Write or wrong, I've just been rather critical on various things ever since I was born besically; heck I'm one of those kids don't "love" Tom & Jerry, while I cannot deny the animation qualities and such.
  431. [18:53] <RobitStudios> i alsmot didnt bother since they wanted me to fill out all this paper work
  432. [18:53] <Ordine> Well that's a good thing.
  433. [18:53] <RobitStudios> but im really glad i did
  434. [18:53] <everettjlamb> hope to see taw on gog.  I'll share gog/your tweet of the gog release.
  435. [18:53] <RobitStudios> thats how Tiy discovered it
  436. [18:53] <RobitStudios> and thats how we got to this point :)
  437. [18:53] <RobitStudios> happy accidents
  438. [18:53] <RobitStudios> everett, we'll be on gog for sure
  439. [18:54] <RobitStudios> ive already been in touch with them
  440. [18:54] <everettjlamb> gog is good, both community and people :)
  441. [18:54] <RobitStudios> as long as we pass their QA test we're in
  442. [18:54] <everettjlamb> great news :)
  443. [18:54] <Pave> Though, I am rather easily amused however....
  444. [18:54] * Pave stares at "Eat Lead: return of Matt Hazzard".
  445. [18:54] <Klaimen> It's pretty cool, it's the first thing you see when you sign up on GOG
  446. [18:55] <darcro> Did you guys record how many preorders came in during minecon?
  447. [18:55] <darcro> was it more/less than what you expected?
  448. [18:55] <RobitStudios> exactly - they told me TAG has been downloaded over 500,000 times
  449. [18:55] <Klaimen> o.o
  450. [18:55] <Klaimen> half a million
  451. [18:55] <RobitStudios> yeah
  452. [18:55] <RobitStudios> now whether all those people played it - i dont know
  453. [18:55] <fetalstar> i sort of kept an eye on it... i'd say we've gotten like........... 50 new preorders since minecon?
  454. [18:55] <RobitStudios> i think it was more than that
  455. [18:56] <fetalstar> really?
  456. [18:56] <fetalstar> i don't remember
  457. [18:56] <RobitStudios> weren't we just around 400?
  458. [18:56] <RobitStudios> now we're at 476
  459. [18:56] <fetalstar> i thought it was morel ike 425
  460. [18:56] <fetalstar> ish
  461. [18:56] <centreti> never even heard of GOG. I need to get with it! :D
  462. [18:56] <centreti> -bookmarked-
  463. [18:56] <RobitStudios> ah, maybe you're right
  464. [18:56] <beta_red> Yeah, GOG is sweet! :)
  465. [18:56] <everettjlamb> nice to see gog more well-known
  466. [18:56] <RobitStudios> well either way - i think i expected more- but it's still been a big jump
  467. [18:57] <darcro> Im really looking forward to goal 2 being reached - i totally want to cosplay the paper hat retro model :D
  468. [18:57] <Klaimen> wait until the demo releases
  469. [18:57] <Pave> Well, I had already decided to give you extra breads even before Minecon. :P
  470. [18:57] <RobitStudios> i think once we have a demo and we announce the early access for backers things will pick up
  471. [18:57] <Ordine> GOG is a very nice site but I can't get them to work with PayPal.
  472. [18:57] <Pave> So enjoy your +10 breads (if each would cosr 2$) XD
  473. [18:57] <RobitStudios> hey, just a warning- i have to take off in 5 mins - my fiance demands I help her with dinner :)
  474. [18:58] <Ordine> I ended up buying the two Witcher games from Steam since they rejected the account details too many times.
  475. [18:58] <Klaimen> oh ok!
  476. [18:58] <Klaimen> will you return or does she keep you for the rest of the night?
  477. [18:58] <RobitStudios> you are all welcome to chat as long as you want -especially since i dont have Admin status
  478. [18:58] <darcro> Well Im glad I got in early to experience these chats before there are 1000s of people in the channel ;D
  479. [18:58] <RobitStudios> theres really nothing i can do about it
  480. [18:58] * Pave is indeed rather precise when it comes to money
  481. [18:58] <everettjlamb> sorry to hear of the paypal issues, ordine.  do hope it'll be resolved soon
  482. [18:59] <RobitStudios> i told her we could watch old sci-fi movies tonight
  483. [18:59] <Ordine> Yeah. Not a good idea to keep her waiting.
  484. [18:59] <RobitStudios> so im going to be busy the rest of the night
  485. [18:59] <Klaimen> no problem
  486. [18:59] <darcro> Any particular movie planned?
  487. [18:59] <RobitStudios> well speaking of GOG - we watching an insane movie form the 50s called GOG last week
  488. [18:59] <beta_red> Night of the Lepus!!
  489. [18:59] <RobitStudios> haha yeah i already made her watcht hat one, beta

  492. [19:00] <Klaimen> enjoy your night off, your fiancee probably deserves it after those busy weeks :)
  493. [19:00] <beta_red> Haha, it's so terrible and great :)
  494. [19:00] <RobitStudios> netflix has a ton of stuff like that
  495. [19:01] <RobitStudios> haha exactly, klaimen
  496. [19:01] <darcro> Thanks for doing these chats, its really awesome to be able to connect
  497. [19:01] <Pave> I personally don't get it why I'm not able to watch "rare exports" in my country via Netflix...
  498. [19:01] <Pave> Or at least I could few months ago...
  499. [19:01] <RobitStudios> no problem, dacro - i really enjoy them too
  500. [19:01] <RobitStudios> im convinced that we have the nicest fans ever
  501. [19:01] <beta_red> Yeah, you all really are awesome! :)
  502. [19:01] <darcro> Get to see where all the weird countries the fans come from :P
  503. [19:02] <Pave> Well, 10+ fans tend to be calm for the most part. ;)
  504. [19:02] <Klaimen> talking about old sci fi movies
  505. [19:02] <Klaimen> anyone know Island of Terror?
  506. [19:02] <beta_red> I love that we have a Global community!  It's so cool! :)
  507. [19:02] <RobitStudios> yeah its all a numbers game
  508. [19:02] <Klaimen> (most common title name ever)
  509. [19:02] <RobitStudios> no i dont think ive heard of it
  510. [19:02] <RobitStudios> i'll look it up though
  511. [19:02] <darcro> At minecon, it sounded like you had lots of younger kids playing the game...
  512. [19:02] <Klaimen> it's quite hilarious
  513. [19:03] <darcro> is that the audience at minecon, or were they attracted towards your game specifically?
  514. [19:03] <Klaimen> don't expect too much X)
  515. [19:03] <beta_red> Yeah, we had a lot of younger kids checking out TAW
  516. [19:03] <Ordine> Haha that's cute.
  517. [19:03] <beta_red> It seemed to be the primary audience at Minecon
  518. [19:03] <RobitStudios> minecon was a lot of kids yeah
  519. [19:03] <RobitStudios> and a lot of bored parents
  520. [19:03] <Klaimen> where they from around the area?
  521. [19:03] <beta_red> Maybe 1/5 or 1/4 were teens/adults
  522. [19:04] <darcro> wow thats interesting
  523. [19:04] <darcro> I forget kids play games O_o
  524. [19:04] <RobitStudios> they seems like they were mostly from the States but all over the country
  525. [19:04] <beta_red> They were from all over actually
  526. [19:04] <Klaimen> cool!
  527. [19:04] <RobitStudios> dacro! i know me too
  528. [19:04] <RobitStudios> but it was eye opening
  529. [19:04] <beta_red> They were good at it!
  530. [19:04] <RobitStudios> because they seemed to really like and were really good at it
  531. [19:05] <RobitStudios> yeah, they acutally needed less help then the older crowrd
  532. [19:05] <darcro> Thats quite an interesting insight to take out
  533. [19:05] <RobitStudios> i know, i'll have to keep that in mind when i start doing more marketing

  538. [19:06] <RobitStudios> some were very supportive -but yeah, if they are anything like my parents they woudlnt ever pre-order a game
  539. [19:06] <Klaimen> i can see how kids like it as much as we do heh
  540. [19:07] <RobitStudios> some of the parents were obviously big gamers
  541. [19:07] <RobitStudios> and we had a least one parent make their kids wait for them while they played TAW, haha
  542. [19:07] <darcro> LOL thats awesome!
  543. [19:07] <Klaimen> lol
  544. [19:07] <beta_red> Haha!  Yeah, and a few people that came up were TAG fans as well :)
  545. [19:07] <RobitStudios> ok, thats it for me folks - i need to go
  546. [19:07] <darcro> I have to say, whoever came up with the idea of having a parrot as a buddy

  554. [19:08] <darcro> Thanks so much RobitStudios!
  555. [19:08] <RobitStudios> we'll do it again in 3 weeks

  559. [19:09] <RobitStudios> and i'll get the demo to those of you who emailed me soon
  560. [19:09] <RobitStudios> tonight (i swear)
  561. [19:09] <beta_red> I can stick around for another 10 minutes or so, if anyone has any music related questions.
  562. [19:09] <beta_red> Or any questions for that matter

  570. [19:10] <fetalstar> lmfao RobitStud
  571. [19:10] <darcro> LOL
  572. [19:10] <beta_red> Haha :D
  573. [19:10] <beta_red> Those are great questions!
  574. [19:10] <darcro> Mine was very generic :P
  575. [19:11] <everettjlamb> if taw is on gog, will the soundtrack be included as a goodie? hope so, the taw soundtrack is classic and memorable like tag's.
  576. [19:11] <beta_red> It's hard to tell how many more tracks until the oat is finished--currently, there are about 25 that are done
  577. [19:11] <beta_red> Thanks, man!  That's great to hear! :)
  578. [19:11] <Ordine> Nice.
  579. [19:11] <beta_red> Haha "oat"--I meant ost :)
  580. [19:12] <beta_red> Minecon was definitely a good experience overall
  581. [19:12] <everettjlamb> please include taw's ost as a goodie for the gog release :P
  582. [19:13] <beta_red> Yeah, sorry!  I totally didn't answer that, haha!
  583. [19:13] <beta_red> I'm not sure how we'll be packaging things, but including it sounds good to me :)
  584. [19:13] <darcro> What do you use as a starting point for composing a track?
  585. [19:14] <beta_red> The first thing I tend to do is just sit down and improvise until I come up with something that suits the mood of the location, or event
  586. [19:14] <beta_red> I try to keep it simple in the beginning, and then let it evolve as the composition process goes on
  587. [19:15] <beta_red> I think of it as gathering raw material to be refined :)
  588. [19:15] <Ordine> Playing the tracks using a guitar is quite challenging.
  589. [19:15] <darcro> ANd how long does it take from that inception to completion?
  590. [19:15] <Ordine> It gives me a lot of picking practice.
  591. [19:15] <Klaimen> oh i got a good one, when the music blog is filled up, is the game finished? it feels like there's so many tracks on there already
  592. [19:16] <beta_red> Haha, that's great!  Yeah, I'm primarily a guitar player, but I'll often write at the keyboard.

  595. [19:17] <beta_red> From inception to completion it often depends on how much time I have--the shorter-end is a couple of days, and the longer end is usually a couple weeks
  596. [19:17] <Ordine> It also sounds nice on the harmonica.
  597. [19:18] <Klaimen> fetalstar, how many pieces of drawing have you done for TAW until now? i imagine yourself sitting inbetween huge stacks of drawing, and a desktop lamp
  598. [19:18] <beta_red> Yeah, I imagine the music blog will be full before the game is complete, because it's getting close, but I'm not entirely sure.  Honestly, I'd still love to have it mastered at an external facility, but it'll depend on weather I can afford it.  Currently, I'm doing the mastering myself.
  599. [19:19] <fetalstar> oh god
  600. [19:19] <fetalstar> a lot
  601. [19:19] <beta_red> Haha!  I'd love to hear a harmonica version! :)

  632. [19:23] <fetalstar> nope! TAW is the only one i've really worked on ^^
  633. [19:23] <fetalstar> i did some stuff for starbound
  634. [19:24] <Klaimen> beta, i read in that interview that you made music for other games too... right?
  635. [19:24] <fetalstar> nothing in game, because it's all pixel art

  639. [19:25] <darcro> I guess its a difficult thing with music, that most often if it stands out its because its bad
  640. [19:25] <darcro> but if its really good, it influences you without even realising it

  648. [19:27] <beta_red> Right on!  That's great!

  651. [19:29] <fetalstar> i like the new music! :D
