If you go to the San Luis Ob. and the Big Sur coast later, you can't really also do Death Valley and snow in your time frame
without driving like an idiot.
If you DO want to go to Death Valley (wildflowers!) you can go over Carson Pass on 88 through Jackson
and come back on Walker Pass 178 by Lake Isabella (see attachment). Off of 395 you can drive up the backside
of the Sierra at Whitney Portal from (Lone Pine?, Independence?), and also visit the nearby Alabama Hills rocks which are cool.
Otherwise I suggest the route on the attachment. Yosemite spring waterfalls are thundering, and the Generals' Highway through
Kings Canyon - Sequoia NP is a fabulous drive open all year. Make sure you get out and walk among the groves of Sequoias in
all these parks. You get over 6000' so you should have plenty snow in KCSNP.
Then you zip over to SLO and the coast.
