  1. Savior
  2. Chapter One
  3.
  4. Jauris ran across the white tiles of the hospital floor, with heavy footsteps pounding behind him. He looked over his shoulder as he ran and caught a glimpse of his friend Ren, whom was wielding an MP5 machine-gun.
  5. Klaxon alarms blared through the building, screaming down the hallways with deafening volume.
  6. Jauris neared the door on the other end of the doorway – the medical storage room. He shut his eyes and pressed himself against the wall of the hallway as Ren set the charges on the door.
  7. “Blasting!” screamed Ren as the door blew off its hinges. Thon stumbled into the room, which greeted him with row upon row of medical syringes. Jars and syringes filled with liquids and pills of all colors, each treatment labelled with a number and a codename. Ren stood guard from inside the room as Jauris rummaged through the hundreds of treatments on the first shelving unit.
  8. “Equiliberen 004… Revicitum 016… Hundrosin 927…” Jauris began to panic. There was no way he could find the bottle he needed amongst all these experiments.
  9. Then, he heard gunfire.
  10.
  11. Only two weeks earlier, Ren and Jauris had been leading peaceful, wealthy lives.
  12. Sipping coffee at the café Ren liked, with marshmallows bathing in their drinks. Jauris wore a ruffled white shirt, one you’d see on a tuxedo. From his wrist hung a bulky, golden watch. Shielding his eyes were stylish sunglasses. He had wavy, brown hair with blond streaks running through it. All these features, crossed with his solid muscles and ruffled aura made him look like the typical American dream.
  13. Ren too looked classy, wearing a short red dress tailored to fit her perfectly. Her hair was long and dark brown, rolling down her back like a waterfall. Her face was attractive – perfectly formed and she had a slender figure. From most distances, it was obvious that this couple were wealthy and well-known.
  14.
  15. “Did you remember that you have an appointment with the Doctor tonight?” asked Ren.
  16. “Oh, forgot about that. What time did he arrange? 10:00 tonight? 11:30?”
  17. Ren sighed, giving a nod to “11:30”.
  18. Jauris smiled, relaxed in his chair and sipped his coffee as he made eye contact with Ren.
  19. “Remember” nodded Ren to Jauris.
  20.
  21. That night was a cold one, much unlike the blistering hot day that had shimmered off the roads a few hours earlier. Jauris rode a sleek black Harley motorcycle down the highway, toward the outer city. He was en-route to a medical check-up as he hadn’t had one in 7 months. Soon, he saw a hidden road, one covered by towering orchards. He departed his bike at the entrance and walked along the road, wearing a black suit over his day clothes. It was a small country road, engulfed in grapevines. At the end of the road was a simple house, made of concrete and wood. The modest house of Doctor Bradenborgen, private medical consultant. He neared the front door and climbed the 3 wooden steps that led to the porch.
  22. He rapped his fist on the door a few times, but to no answer. He tried again, this time harder.
  23. No answer.
  24. He looked through the keyhole, but couldn’t see inside as all the lights were off. He sighed in frustration and pounded his fists on the door, which gave way. The hinges clattered on the floor, with rust breaking away on impact.
  25. Still no noise came from inside.
  26. Jauris unbuttoned his suit and loosened his tie, walking inside. He looked from side-to-side, scouring the place for any sign of the Doctor. The house had a simple design, a hallway running to the back wall with 2 rooms on either side. He opened the door to his right, which led to an empty room.
  27. The one on his left was the same. There was absolutely nothing in the house, it seemed.
  28. He moved forwards and carefully peeked his head inside the next doorway. He caught a glimpse of the Doctor sitting on an office chair, facing the door.
  29. With a gun in his hand.
  30. Jauris ducked back outside the doorway, the Doctor hadn’t seen him.
  31. “Shit” yelled the Doctor. “Fuck!”
  32. The Doctor was breathing loud enough for Jauris to hear through the small crack in the door, which was strange. Oh, and don’t forget the gun he was now pressing to his own head.
  33. Bradenborgen looked delirious, sweating a shower and scanning the room with frantic eyes.
  34. Click.
  35. The distantly familiar sound of a gun being cocked rang through the door.
  36. Bradenborgen jammed the gun against the roof of his mouth, closed his eyes harder than he ever had before and fired.
  37. BOOM.
  38. -
  39.
  40. Chapter Two
  41.
  42. Jauris kicked down the door and met the Doctors dead body, leaning back in his chair with the top of his skull blown open. Smoke was still wafting from the gun hanging from Bradenborgen’s dead hand.
  43.
  44. The forensic team gave a statement at 11:44 PM, over half an hour after the Doc’s death. Suicide, they had called it. There was nothing in the house except the chair the Doctor had sat on, his corpse, and of course the gun.
  45. Forensics closely inspected the body and the chair, finding nothing of interest. The house held nothing that would further the investigation.
  46. Eventually, Jauris was given permission to leave.
  47. Too tired to function any longer, he drove to a motel and rented a room for the night.
  48. He slept like a child.
