1. Jon Snow is a Campbellian Hero, and we are currently at the beginning of the Magic Flight portion. For those of you who aren't familiar with Joseph Campbell's Monomyth, here is a handy dandy guide to it.
2.
3. Now, the major points to be noted first off is that the Wall is representative of the unknown world, the special world, and everywhere else in westeros is the known world. Now, some of you will immediately be able to connect which points line up, but for the rest, I will explain each detail.
4.
5. First, we have the Ordinary world and the Call to Adventure, here Jon Snow goes with his father to become a member of the nights watch, as is his duty. This is self explanatory enough. Next, we have the Refusal of the Call, these are all of the various times Jon is at odds with the rest of the nights watch, and immediately hates it, before a number of mentors come along, Donal Noye and the other men of the nights watch, as well as Tyrion.
6.
7. The Supernatural Aid comes when Jon is given Longclaw, one of the few "magical" objects left in westeros. The Crossing the Threshold comes when Jon goes out ranging for the first time. The Belly of the Whale is when he fully commits to Qhorin's plan, and kills him in order to become a member of the wildlings. The Road of Trials are the various things he must do while going about with the Wildlings, climbing the wall, killing Qhorin, outwitting Mance. Here is where George get's a liiittle tricky, both The Temptress and The Goddess are Ygritte, as she both is a loving aid to him, and tempts him away from his duty. Thus, his Atonement with the Fatheris when he kills, or let's Ygritte die during the Battle of Castle Black, atoning with his true family, Castle Black.
8.
9. Now, his Apotheosis is in the downtime before he is declared the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, and the Ultimate Boon is becoming Lord Commander, but more importantly, getting the knowledge of how to be a Leader, the first time he shows this is with the killer line "Edd, fetch me a block."
10.
11. Now, the Refusal of the Return is when Jon realizes that he actually needs to go back, but cannot, and will not, because of his duty to the night's watch, despite the more pressing matter of his duty to the entirety of westeros. And thus, we are at Magic Flight, where Jon tries to continue being Lord Commander and ruling winterfell, at first dying doing so.
12.
13. And here is where I get speculative.
14.
15. The Rescue From Without section is when Mellisandre revives him, and somehow, someone tells him of his true birthright. Here, Jon will Cross the Return Threshold, and leave the nights watch for good, without breaking his vows (And now his watch has ended) with all of the gifts and insight it has provided him. Now he is the Master of Two Worlds, hell, master of three really, both in touch with the common people, the wildlings, and the nobility. Able to mingle with all, in touch with what the common people need, as well as having an esteemed heritage to back up his nobility. With the Freedom to Live, he will show that he does not fear death by taming one of Danys Dragon's himself, and becoming King of the Iron Throne.
