  12. So, is there actually psychological research going on regarding chronic >tfwnogf? Judging by the internet, this seems to affect a significant amount of guys, to the point of making them feel suicidal. I wonder if any professional psychiatrist starts to create some literature about this topic and come up with possible therapies.

  15. I'm pretty sure normal therapy works if you let yourself emotionally open up
  16. but you wouldn't know what that's like because you choose to cherish your meaningless thoughts

  27. I think >tfw no gf is just a side effect of another mental illness
  28.
  29. I had >tfw no gf until I was 22. I then got medicated for extreme anxiety. >tfw went away as my anxiety got better
  30.
  31. Eventually I completely stopped thinking about a gf. And then I acually ended up getting a gf
  32.
  33. >tfw gf

  44. Looking at some of the symptoms of disorders robots might have, it may instead be heightened sensitivity to perceived or actual risks of ridicule or judgmental comments and inexperience with forming relationships

  50. Well you have a 2014 article discussing how 'hikikomoris' exist despite cultural differences and can be assessed using a standardized measure. Both are pretty vital for mental health services for actual research and treatment methods to happen. And it's kinda funny how hikikomori might become an actual medical term.

  53. You guys feel bad because you still have hope.
  54. Once you realize it's hopeless, then you'll stop caring.
  55. I think most of you haven't really tried, so you continue thinking that you don't have a gf because you haven't really tried and you'll get one eventually. Once you try and fail, and realize you won't get one eventually, you'll stop caring.

  59. Of course you have heightened sensitivity when you think about things way too much. learn to stop caring so much, better yet understand why you care so much.

  63. >I think >tfw no gf is just a side effect of another mental illness
  64.
  65. Yeah, you're probably right; on the other hand, it's often caused by "physical impairments" i.e. ugliness or low social status due to poverty or just plain introversion, which isn't regarded as a mental illness; I wonder if >tfw is at least regarded as a common symptom of social anxiety..

  75. I mean significant compared to other mental illnesses. Most people don't aren't schizophrenic but there are still so many that a myriad of scientific literature exists.

  79. They've already done research on effects of >tfwnogf, I remember seeing somewhere that loneliness (in the form of either no best friends, or no mate, each to their own degree, mate being worse) can shave up to like 7 years off of someone's life due to stress and anxiety that loneliness causes. Humans are inherently social beings, and not having anyone close is detrimental, even if you don't want to find someone, the effects of not having them are similar across all humans.
  80.
  81. As far as reasons why >tfwnogf occurs, that would be interesting to research. Whether it be the hubris of the male, or the aspects of the male's personality that are turn-offs to modern women.
  82. >inb4 because they're not chad
  83. I do actually believe in Chad, but it would be interesting to see the qualities that are attractive and the ones that aren't in a longitudinal study over perhaps generations to see what the trends are.
  84.
  85. For example, in the Renaissance period being fat was a sign of wealth and had an attractiveness, now it is opposite.

  93. Loneliness and depression have a lot of negative health effects. Such as decrease in memory, cognitive ability, and motor coordination. Also leads to more suicides, drug and alcohol abuse, and it's a vicious cycle because your mood affects people around you, so they don't want to try and help because you're only bringing them down.

  111.
  112. however good that feels I can't help but feel bitter about this, because after all I am the absolutely same person, I don't feel any different on the inside, but now that I actually put a little effort into how I look people suddenly want to be my friend? That's really shallow and it makes me mad as fuck that we live in such a world.

  128. There's research on it. For those of you on assbook, there was an I Fucking Love Science editorial on this paper that found that sleeping with someone else (I.e., cuddling) is associated with more health and happiness. Its correlational, but its the best you can do because the experiment is unethical.
  129.
  130. There's also more classic findings about how some monogamous species will die if you take their partner away.

  134. I don't know about any of you guys, but for me, therapy never worked. The problem is the fact you still have to live and work in reality, and the things they teach you in therapy of how to deal with life just don't apply when working to deal with the things around you.
