  1. >>>Occultist Updates
  2. There will undoubtedly be a feat that grants Extra Mental Focus. Right now I am thinking 3 is the number, but I am not set on that.
  3.
  4. Implements do not use up magic item slots unless they are, themselves, magic items.

  8. Am I nuts or are there no resonant powers for the Transmuter's Vest?

  11. That said, I am seriously looking at rebalancing all of the implement powers to give this class a boost in a couple of vital areas. My end goal with this is to give the class a number of different directions it can take, allowing it to focus on one area if desired or split up the focus to give a more broad based support level.

  14. 1. I think we will certainly be looking at swapping around/adding more items when its comes to implements.
  15.
  16. 2. I thought about having a few generic implements that could go for any type, but I think I would have to add a bit about only have one such implement. So, if we made ring generic, you could only have one ring implement, but it could be of any type, decided when taken. You could not take another ring implement of another type (you could still have a wand generic implement if we made those open as well, for example). I am still open to this idea to be honest, but I will wait to make any decision.

  18. 3. The class is a little all over the board at the moment. To some extent, this is by design. We wanted this class to be skilled in a number of different directions, as needed by the party. I think we could probably push that a little further, but I think we have to be careful to avoid the class getting too good at too many different disciplines.

  20. 4. Finally, I am very open to the idea of the resonant powers being set once the focus is invested, but I think that would mean a bit of redesign here and there to balance them for that change. It would certainly make life easier for the occultist in terms of tracking their abilities.

  22. >>November 12th Update
  23. I've been away for a bit enjoying a long weekend, but I am getting caught up on the discussion here. Let me try and sort out implements and the selection process.
  24.
  25. 1. Starting at 1st level, you pick two groups (such as divination and evocation). At 2nd level and every four levels thereafter, you can pick one additional group.
  26. 2. Picking a group, adds the spells from that group to your spell list. In addition, you learn to cast one spell of each level for each group that you know, these are your spells known..
  27. 3. Each day, you pick one item from the list of implements for each group that you have. You need that implement to cast spells from that group.
  28. 4. You can choose to invest your mental focus in these items, in any combination that you want, including leaving some within you (which is "generic" and can be used on any of your chosen implement's focus powers, but at twice the normal cost). The amount you invest determines the effects of your resonant powers, but only as long as that power remains inside. Once spent, the resonant powers diminish.
  29.
  30. If you pick the same group twice, you gain an additional spell known of each level that you can cast from that group. This increases as you go up in level. You must pick an additional implement (step 3) each day to use these extra spells. You can choose to invest focus in multiple items from the same group (step 4), granting more than one resonant power from the group (1 from each item).
  31.
  32. I am hoping that sorts it out a bit. The language shifted pretty late in the design process here and I think there are a few bugs we still need to iron out. Note that it was never the design intent that you get a great deal of resonant power from all of your implements each day. You are supposed to pick and choose what is valuable to you and run with it.
