Born on outlander colony in the outter rim of civilized space
raised on a cruiser that travelled with a raiding party, cruiser was for storing hijacked goods and attacking only larger ships

after attacking one of the furthest colony worlds the raiding group was attacked by a squadron of ships from the central systems

everyone was killed except for the children under 6 years old on the cruiser, all collected and taken by the military ships. Zoey (name given by captors i guess) was almost 6 at the time, making her the oldest out of those who were taken

all that were taken were transported to a facility on one of the central planets, designed to train them how to live like normal people  and integrate into society

facility also had children from 4 other ships, making about 40 in total

after several weeks most of the children gave in and began to learn what was being taught

for 4 months zoey would hide from the teachers and not turn up to classes or she would sit at the back and sleep or disrupt the class, she was sent out of the room most days at that point she would just wander around the facility until she was picked up by a guard and brought back

after a year her fellow students started to get taken away by families willing ot adopt them, a year after it started all the other children were gone, living normal lives with the families that adopted them

the advisors at the facility said that because zoey had already spent a large amount of time with the outlanders she would take longer to train

on her 9th birthday, zoey was told that someone wanted to meet her
