  1. We actually did address movies, but you left the class before we did so. You may have been able to learn more--and articulate your concerns more clearly--if you had stayed in the class and saw a segment of the film I showed--Tough Guise--which addresses the role that films, video games and linguistics play in the teaching of violent masculinity.

  3. And actually I didn't "say that with critical analysis any game can have capitalistic, militaristic or racist undertones." Nor was the class "purely about agreeing to the paper". But you seemed to be confused about that.

  5. Perhaps if you had written the response paper that was due, you would have had more time to collect your thoughts about how you wanted to respond thoughtfully in our discussion. (A number of students in my other class who found themselves getting defensive as they read the article ended up realizing the validity of certain statements in the article as well as the possible reasons for their feelings of defensiveness.

You make an interesting although confusing point in the last paragraph of your email: "My problem with today's class and reading was that it misrepresents the people that play these games as well as the actual games." (The class did that?!?) I'd like to hear more about what you mean, although after you left class, we talked a little bit about why certain people might get heatedly defensive about the article instead of being able to acknowledge the points made as well as the complexity of the situation.
