  1. Project SHIKI Planning Document
  2.
  3. Concept: Room escape game similar to 999 and VLR. Deals primarily with murder, control of information, and mistrust, and game theory. Lots of bad ends, must be completed to access the good end. No paranormal elements, at least not any obvious ones. Core question, the tagline question if you will, is "What is the cost of taking a life?" All the players have taken a life somehow before. Only one player is able to make it out alive. 7 is a recurring theme, as are the Seven Deadly Sins. Many of the "game rooms" involve the number 7 somehow, or 7 of a certain things. 7 colors, 7 classical planets, 7 seas, etc. Character's are based on Shakespeare's 7 Ages of Man.
  4. Location: An abandon and snowed-in ski lodge. All exits are blocked, and windows have been replaced with iron bars and reinforced glass, so being snowed-in doesn't really matter, but it does mean that even if they were to escape improperly, the seven players would have no way down the mountain without freezing to death.
  5. Characters:
  6. Kyouko AKA "Luxuria" - Murdered a girl who was in love with a boy that she desired, and killed that boy infront of the girl to spite her. Sadistic and evil, but hides it well. Yandere archetype. Represents the 3rd Age of Man, the Lover, prone to melancholia and woefully incompetent at handling her emotions, when she is found out. Wears a track outfit, and is generally athletic. Has a very long, black ponytail. About 19. Given an inverted cross with "Luxuria" engraved on it from her first room.
  7. Player AKA "Sol" - Killed a childhood friend by accidentally pushing her into a stream, where she hit her head and drowned. Is the infant, or the 1st Age of Man, but also has the most potential for growth. His progress throughout the story involves him growing out of his innocence, and facing his situation with courage. He is largely innocent and ignorant, but not stupid. May fall for early tricks, but ultimately will become cunning and sly enough to survive (in the good ends). About 18. Given a medallion depicting a sun from his first room.
  8. Vivian AKA "Indigo" - Murders out of a genuine hatred for other humans. Is clever enough to know she can't kill openly during the game, but intends to win, by whatever means neccessary. Very shy and antisocial, often refuses to take part in conversation, and only speaks when she absolutely needs to. Represents the 2nd age of man, the whining schoolboy. Her hatred is borne from fear and distrust, and a desire to be left alone. Seems to have been betrayed when she was young, and has generalized her hatred for the one who wronged her to all of society. Has a mop of white hair, similar to Shinobu's from No More Heroes, and wears a black vest over a white dress. About 15/16. Given an indigo key from her first room.
  9. Kennedy AKA "Caspian" - Murdered his wife's killer. Genuienly feels the guilt of that action, but would not take it back. Understands that he is a killer, and bares that shame. Friendly, but also intelligent, often acts as a mediator. Unable to decide whether or not he wants win the game, but is very concerned with making sure whoever wins, he deems innocent. Represents the 5th Age of Man, justice. Wears an open, brown peacoat and carries himself in a dignified manner. Shocks of gray in his otherwise brown hair, wears a black turtleneck, and grey slacks. About 57. Given a vial containing what appeared to be water, labelled "Caspian Sea" from his first room.
  10. Alexander AKA "Cortez" - An ex-police officer, murdered man in his line of work, but is ultimately haunted by his murder of an innocent young man during a drug bust. The boy was a hostage, and was being used as a human shield by a perp. The perp was drug-crazed, and on the verge of killing both the hostage and Cortez's partner, so Cortez, who had come in the back, shot him in the back. Unfortunately, the bullet penetrated the perp, entered the hostage, ricochet off the hostage's ribcage, and tore up the hostage's right lung. The hostage died in transit to the hospital. Cortez represents the 4th Age of Man, the soldier. He has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and is relatively uncompromising in his beliefs, but has difficulty reconciling his accidental murder of the young man with his desire for justice. Wears a leather jacket, with Memento Mori emblazoned on the back, no shirt, and black jeans. About 41. Given a tile in the shape of South America from his first room.
  11. Phoebe AKA "Verta" - Engaged in assisted suicide, killing her roommate during one of her many lengthy hospital stays. Has brainstem glioma, and has been diagnosed with only a few months left to live. She is very weak, and has begun to lose her hair due to chemotherapy. She recognizes the selfishness of wanting to survive when she has not long left to live, but wishes to make ammends with her estranged son before she dies. Represents the 7th Age of Man, incapacity. Wears a hospital gown for the first bit, but is later presented with a teal, floral dress. Has dark hair, that was at one point beautiful, but has started to thin and though it is not yet patchy, it soon will be. Skin is very pale. About 28. Given a cervical vertebrae in her first room.
  12. Samuel AKA "Wesson" - Killed a child in a drunk driving accident, and only fell deeper into alcoholism afterwards. Self-loathing and often angry with his age and inability to keep up with others. Desperately does not want to die alone in the game, but has no one left to go home to if he does escape. Has an extremely low sense of self-value. Represents the 6th Age of Man, old age. Wears an old, grey suit, unbuttoned, and grey slacks. The image of an old man trying to maintain his power. About 71. Given a revolver and six bullets from his first room, the only item with an obvious use, at first.
