  1. The next issue to discuss in relation to the management function of planning is safety/legalities. The market for drones has increased over the past few years and is expected to rise a lot more by the year 2020. Companies like Amazon, DHL and Google are pouring millions of dollars into researching this service to get ahead of the competition as these companies have made enquiries to the IAA in Ireland about the operation of drones commercially but have yet to design a drone that can operate safely. In New Zealand we have our own laws though around the usage of drones. There are 12 key things that you are required to do if you under Part 101 Rule Compliance Matrix. There are five main ones that need to be considered. The first of which is that the aircraft must be under 25 kgs, if it is over 25 kgs you must obtain an exposition showing that you have identified hazards and risks of their operation, and ways they will mitigate those risks. Fly only in daylight, be able to see the aircraft with your own eyes, when flying in controlled airspace, obtain an air traffic control clearance issued by Airways and have consent from anyone you want to fly above. To comply with all these regulations and laws a plan will need to be made with these goals in mind to obtain clearance to be able to fly all around New Zealand and to be able to do it safely and remotely a standing plan could be used to obtain consent from home owners and such to fly over there houses. Research on drone safety technical and non-technical an example of a technical problem would be for a drone crash-incident whether a crash is caused by equipment malfunction or physically encountering an object that causes it to crash, a solution could be accomplished using built-in technology called Sense-and-Avoid. This technology can provide solutions and warnings to prevent aircraft crashes and would be very useful. Sense-and-avoid is one of the largest areas of research on technology development for drones recently that could be used to solve the problem of drone crashes. A non-technical problem to research would be to have someone visually acknowledge aircrafts travelling in the area similar to that of a control tower in an airport where they contact each other to make sure it’s safe to land or take off.
