  1. Good evening.
  2. Tonight we rejoin to, once again, celebrate another achievement related to English. Yes, another one. We have taken years to learn how to use our native language properly and, when we realize how much we have progressed, we start learning another language from zero again. Without the complex mental activities from our early ages that have made we learn Portuguese almost effortless, it has been a challenge [a quite long one] to learn a different idiom. Step by step we have collected those achievements – from the first “my name is…” to the negative inversions [and CAE’s “reading and use of English” part 4]. And here we are, to celebrate our most recent one.
  3. We went the extra mile and not only have we studied English weekly, we have also studied for the Cambridge exam. Yes, Cambridge. We all remember that long and tiring probation that we have passed in order to be sitting here today. Above all,it worth the investment. Besides all the academic and professional opportunities that come with such certification, just the fact of being recognized by the most regarded institution in the birthplace of English is already priceless. We should be proud of ourselves.
  4. English has empowered us and made us citizens of a world that breathes and lives English. It has made us unafraid to cross countries’ frontiers or continents; to read foreign literature and consume foreign arts; to understand and live an international reality that extends far beyond Porto Alegre or Brazil.
