  1. The psions are a race of extraterrestrial beings that are nearly emotionless. They possess basic emotions, such as fear and surprise, but anything more is unknown to their kind. As such, they cannot comprehend the human value system, and do not see why the atrocities they commit are, in fact, atrocities.
  2.
  3. These crimes against sanity are most horrific; one of the most commonly known experiments the psions perform on their victims is the kidnapping and slaughtering of an infant, which they proceed to serve to the captives hidden in their food in little bits. All for science, they say, as are the other horrible things they subject their captured humans to.
  4.
  5. The psions are not, in fact. actual psions. They don't really name things, if they can help it, and don't refer to themselves with a specific title. The term 'psion' refers to a race that was created by DC comics, and the captives stuck this title onto their captors, because...well, both types of psions are green, scaly, evil scientists.
  6.
  7. The events that lead up to the roleplay are as follows; the psion race used to be a completely soundless one, having no means by which they could produce sounds. Seeing that they were one of the only main species in the universe with this quality, they scoured the galaxies around them for a race with the most diverse range of sounds, and came upon humans.
  8.
  9. Being scientists, they only studied us at first. However, soon looking for a way to modify themselves, the psions captured several humans to experiment with.
  10.
  11. As you may expect, almost all of their experiments were sound-related. The psions soon realized that there was one boy with a very specific genetic pattern that was most helpful. (This boy was Izaya Murikami, but we'll actually introduce him a bit later.)
  12.
  13. Searching for others with this genetic anomaly took quite a while, as they were extremely rare. Another trait possessed by these people was that they usually saw and felt teleportation gates when music of any kind began playing- gates to alternate universes.
  14.
  15. This prompted a release of subconscious manipulators out onto the earth. They tuned into the brainwaves of human minds and slipped inside, in a sense, dormant until their host came into contact with a target.
  16.
  17. When this happened, the host slipped into a state much like you would expect when being controlled by an outside force-- dazed, confused, but still very much functional. Headaches are a minor side affect.
  18.
  19. Manipulation by this person occurs, and the target is manuevered into an area void of interference, where the psions can capture them swiftly and efficiently.
  20.
  21. This is what took place during the capturing of more than forty human specimens.
  22.
  23. One of the earliest to be captured was Kate Cyan. Her sister, Marina Cyan, was brought along as well, as usual. Marina had been the victim of a subconscious manipulator, and was an instrument in her own sister's capture, though she didn't realize it.
  24.
  25. Excerpt from Red Heartbeat, Kate's point of view;
  26.
  27. Suddenly, Marina's eyes cleared- the violet contact lenses she had a fondness for only barely hid the fact that her pupils had suddenly dilated.
  28.
  29. "Hey, are you all right?" Kate whispered, studying her face. "Do you want to go home? I can call dad, he should be home right n-"
  30.
  31. There was something sharp in her arm.
  32.
  33. Kate gasped, her questions interrupted as pain bloomed in her head. A strange sort of numbness followed, and she fell to her knees, the sudden urge to sleep taking hold of her mind.
  34.
  35. End of excerpt
  36.
  37. The standard process when dealing with unwanted humans was to wipe their memories, then send them back to earth. This was done, and Kate was locked up in solitary confinement for a few weeks. During this period, she was experimented on regularly, and her mind was linked with a presence that was known as The Primary Rhythm, or PR.
  38.
  39. While adjustments were being made to her mind, another person was brought to the ship currently floating in an indisclosed area of outer space; Christopher.
  40.
  41. Not much is known about him, even by his companions, but he is a runaway-- and his only sibling, Kylie, is dead.
  42.
  43. Excerpt from Perfection's story, Christopher's point of view;
  44.
  45. Time slowed to a halt. The dying rays of the sun just barely filtered through the trees, casting a burning orange glow on anything they touched. Christopher remained on the ground, the limp figure of his sister in his arms. Hot tears trickled down his face as he naturally rejected the fact that she was gone. He held her closer, stainng his own clothes with her blood, but he no longer cared about cleanliness. How could he, when the only person he truly did love was dead?
  46.
  47. Truly did love? Could he really say that, when, no more than an hour ago he had been upset and complaining to himself about how much he despised her? And maybe he had, at the time, but now...now she was gone. Now she would never fulfill her dreams. Now she'd never be able to have fun, which was the only reason he'd forced her to enter the woods in the first place.
  48.
  49. End of excerpt
  50.
  51. After her time in solitary confinement, and the prodecures run on her, Kate was allowed to share a cell with Izaya. Though he was the first human being she had seen in a long while, she did not take kindly to him. His personality was rather blunt, as well as slightly arrogant.
  52.
  53. The fact that he spoke to non-existent people and pretended to be insane just to get on her nerves didn't really help.
  54.
  55. The subjects were rotated regularly, though the person- or people -they roomed with was often different. Each of the humans living on that ship had the chance to stay together for at least a month.
  56.
  57. Certain people were put with each other more often as the year progressed; Meridian Ashworth was captured shortly after Christopher, and differed from the others greatly. Not only was she French royalty, she possessed unnatural abilities. These abilities were also found in her cousin, Thibault, who was her only rival when it came to who would inherit the throne. She had a sister, Electré, but she was no threat; she didn't have the powers of her sibling and cousin, which were almost essential for a new ruler.
  58.
  59. When Meridian was captured, Thibault was shot and killed. This had a great effect on her, and still does quite some time later.
  60.
  61. Excerpt from the RP, Electré's point of view;
  62.
  63. ...Unlike her sister, she did not glow or help to take away pain. That was why the family had been exiled from France to rule over this island. The powers that were so strange, and erratically sprung up in different members. It was what had made Meridian so interesting to the Psions, why she had been able to live through their experiments. But Electré was powerless. She wouldn't survive a night with her weaknesses so prominent. So she gambled with her sister's life to gain the throne and avenge Thibault. It was all she had ever wanted since the kidnapping.
  64.
  65. End of excerpt
  66.
  67. While more and more people were arriving in the area of the ship reserved for prisoners, Kate and Izaya were planning a way of escape. Since Kate had been placed in a cell close to the bay, she had seen that there were at least a dozen escape pods. If she could figure out a way to open the doors on everyone's cells, most of them would probably make it to the pods.
  68. A way soon became apparent, however. The experiments conducted on her mind had allowed her to exercise a form of acoustokinesis, which she knew could help her free every human on the ship,
  69.
  70. Excerpt from the Superpower Wiki;
  71.
  72. A user of acoustokinesis can create, shape and manipulate sound, a periodic disturbance of the medium (air, ground, water, etc) that radiates outward in straight lines in the form of a pressure wave. The effect these waves produce upon the ear is perceived as sound. From the point of view of physics, sound is considered to be the waves of vibratory motion themselves, whether or not they are heard by the human ear.
  73.
  74. User can mimic, intensify, hush, and distort, as well warp, strengthen, echo, speed up, and slow down sound, using it as a powerful physical force and high-speed movement.
  75.
  76. At low frequencies, sound is potentially fatal to living beings by causing internal damage, while high frequencies cannot be heard by normal humans but can be used for sonar-like effects. Since sound vibrations can travel through the air, ground, water and any form of medium, defense by using physical barriers is difficult. The vibrations can also affect at a molecular level.
  77.
  78. In essence, sound is an invisible, deadly weapon and a versatile tool.
  79.
  80. End of excerpt
  81.
  82. While Kate and Izaya- well, mostly it was just Kate -were planning, more experiments were put into action. The psions had given themselves the ability to speak, and now were moving on to modifying the humans.
  83.
  84. Each of the captives- excluding Chris -were given special abilities, such as Meridian's Song of Despair, and Izaya's Voice Replication and Memory 'Restoration.' (though he can only relive memories, and even then only through music.)
  85.
  86. After roughly one year, Kate managed to keep her power under enough control to harness it, thus breaking out of her and Izaya's cell. She paused along the way to free everyone else, but very few made it to the escape pods. Mostly because they didn't know what to do...and also because her friends were the first people she freed, and they were closer to her, thus allowing her to shield them more effectively.
  87.
  88. Christopher, Meridian, Kate, and Izaya were in the same pod. They were blasted down to earth, but something went awry; this particular pod was equipped with a memory erasing device, specifically designed for this type of thing. No one knows why, exactly- perhaps it was because there were four people in the area, and that was too much, or maybe it was because the structures of their minds were definitely not that of normal human beings's. Whatever the case was, the device malfunctioned.
  89.
  90. With three of the four, every memory that involved the psions was erased. Kate, however, only forgot one thing. Her name.
  91.
  92. Not one of her friends remembered who our nameless girl was by the time they got back to earth. She left them, confused and disoriented from the effects of having her name removed from her mind. And she ran to her home, where the psions were waiting for her.
  93.
  94. She didn't see them, of course. They triggered a subconscious manipulator that they'd implanted in her arm a while back.
  95.
  96. Instead of a joyful reunion with her family, she was forced to use her abilities to murder them. A small portion of her consciousness broke through, and she was able to rip the small device out of her arm after a short period of time.
  97.
  98. Devastated by the previous events, she ran into the streets in an attempt at suicide. However, she was dragged away by a man who revealed himself to be Karuso, a gang leader, known as The Gentleman by the residents of the streets.
  99.
  100. She joined the gang known as The Lost Boys, which was a minor gang known for acts of petty theft. Karuso gave her the name Hades, though he specified that he wished her to know that he did not choose to name her after the god of death, but the place the ancient Greeks called Hades...in other words, the abode of the dead.
  101.
  102. After a few months, the girl left in an attempt to go to a decent school, where her friends were also attending. Suceeding in this, she considered telling them what had happened in the past two years, but decided against the idea before leaving school for the day. During the events of the day, she devised a new name for herself- Rhythm.
  103.
  104. After stealing a cheesecake from a local bakery, she was caught by Izaya, who had been walking around that area. He blackmailed her into sharing the food, even though he confessed that he actually hated cheesecake.
  105.
  106. They walked over to a park, attempting to be a bit more inconspicuous. However, Clio, another former captive was playing soccer there, and hit Rhythm on the head with her soccer ball.
  107.
  108. This lead to Meridian, who was walking down the street, coming over to study what was going on. After everyone was introduced, Rhythm explained the events that had lead up to this point, telling them that she knew all of their names, ages, and personal preferences, as they had been her friends.
  109.
  110. While the four were unsure if they could trust her, Clio invited everyone back to her house, as a way for them to settle down together and figure things out.
  111.
  112. Going to school the next day, the group was attacked by a squad of psions. Clio was killed, and Rhythm was shot in the chest. The bullet hit her lungs, but the group managed to get her through a door, using the music on Meridian's phone.
  113.
  114. The door happened to be into an alternate dimension incredibly similar to the 'Twilight' series...one of the doctors was able to heal Rhythm relatively quickly.
  115.
  116. Then, with the aid of another door, they traveled to London. Izaya's sister, Shikia, resided there, and they made themselves comfortable at her place for the time being. During this period, Izaya discovered his Memory Restoration powers when he was playing around with the keyboard and accidentally unlocked Rhythm's mind. This interference led to her recovering the knowledge of her name, though she still asked to be called Rhythm.
  117.
  118. Excerpt from the IMIAK roleplay, both Rhythm and Izaya's points of view;
  119.
  120. Izaya came to his knees in front of her, understanding arriving as he watched her. She was the girl from the strange memory that had crawled inside his head. She was Kate.
  121.
  122. "Kate?" He hesitated, then put his arm around the crying girl. "I'm sorry." He said quietly.
  123.
  124. She looked on, and suddenly all the emotions that had deserted her came flooding back. She was laughing and crying and shaking her head at the absurdity of it all, and then she understood exactly how it had happened and she was hugging him and saying, "Thank you." Over and over, and feeling absolutely ridiculous. But strangely, she really didn't care any more.
  125.
  126. Izaya's eyes widened, and he hugged her back uncertainly. The memory, though he wouldn't admit it, had brought tears to his eyes as well. As he hugged her, he realized he wanted to keep hugging her.
  127.
  128. "Rhythm?" He was unsure of her emotions at the moment. Now that he thought about it, he wasn't sure of his either.
  129.
  130. End of excerpt
  131.
  132. Then the psions attacked again, with the intent of capturing instead of killing this time. A subconscious manipulator was activated in Izaya, and it was revealed that he had actually joined the psions shortly after he was captured. To gain the trust of the others, however, his memories had been swept under a mental rug, and he had adopted a less evil persona. This perticular persona was, in fact, attempting to break free at the moment, but the psions had forced this side out.
  133.
  134. Rhythm- who had grown rather close to Izaya, in particular -tried to call his better half back, but this was in vain. As a last resort, she reached for a higher level of power, dissolving into pure sound and letting her human mind be taken over by the PR to a great extent. This was what had taken place when the psions forced her to murder her parents, and she completely destroyed Shikia's house as she had destroyed her home, killing almost all of the creatures and causing the rest to flee.
  135.
  136. Izaya was brought back, but Rhythm couldn't restore her physical body...she could only remain as a transparent being for so long before dying. Which she did.
  137.
  138. After death, her consciousness was transported more than a billion years into the future. Here, she was given the choice to either die a proper death, or be sent back in time to save the human race...naturally, she chose the latter option.
  139.
  140. She watched over Izaya for seventeen years, as a Guardian Angel of sorts, waiting for the moment after she died. When this time came, she- along with the help of Shikia's Guard, John, and Christopher's Guardian, his deceased sister, -decided that they would cause him to fall from the roof, and then she would catch him and save his life, thus making herself visible to him. When he had been a child, Izaya had seen her after she saved him from falling off the garden wall...however, the memory-erasing device had erased any memory of Rhythm, as she was a person he had met on the psion's ship.
  141.
  142. However, all did not go to plan. Feeling guilt over his actions, and deciding it would be better to end his own life rather than risk his other half coming out again, Izaya jumped from the roof himself. Rhythm did save him, though, and he was able to see her.
  143.
  144. After this little episode...um...I'm just going to give you another excerpt.
  145.
  146. Excerpt from the IMIAK roleplay, both Rhythm and Izaya's points of view;
  147.
  148. At her expression, his own face fell as he realized how that had hurt her-- but then he shook his head. "I...Rhythm, we both need help." He admitted. "And...well. I do. Um. Love you. " He said quietly. "Sometimes I know who I am. It's just...when I'm tired. Or...angry." But it wasn't. Not really. "We need to make you solid again."
  149.
  150. Rhythm feigned an apologetic look. "Oh, that reminds me...what I was about to say when I was so rudely interrupted by Death is that you, Izaya Murikami, are the one person I can tolerate not liking cheesecake because-" And here, the tiny smile that had started to grow at the word 'love' got a little bigger. "I still love you, even if you can be an idiot sometimes, and have a weird obsession with caffeine, which is really a miracle in itself." She lost the happy look for a moment. "And yes, I would very much like to be solid, because I haven't eaten anything in years."
  151.
  152. End of excerpt
  153.
  154. So now, the gang is together again, and at a hotel. Shikia joins them, and they all get a night of rest.
  155.
  156. As you would expect, Izaya converses with Rhythm from time to time, but no one else can see her. This leads to everyone else believing that Izaya is hallucinating, or something of that nature.
  157.
  158. Annnd I can't remember what else happened, so here's a link for you to read through the rest, Lizzy! ^^ It begins right at this point!
