  1. When gg started it was on /v/, and an IRC called burgers and fries. Being an IRC, it's pseudo anonymous, so everyone has names, and tries to score points through e-peen stuff. Not all IRCs are bad, and I'm told there are decent people on burgers and fries, but I'm very biased against IRCs since 4chan's /m/ was ran into the ground by trolling organized on their IRC. One of the mods of the IRC was pretty open about he saw GG as a means to an end, and wanted to start a 'mediagate' and create a larger backlash against the liberal media. In those early days there were rumors about secret groups trying to co-opt Gamergate and they were mostly laughed off and dismissed (though it later turns out many of those rumors were probably planted by people who hung out on the IRC channels)

  3. Flash forward a bit. The gamergate board at the time, /gg/ was ran by a guy named "nico of death". The board pretty much was a gamergate themed /b/, with lax rules. After a while nico started bitching about how autistic the the community was, and how he was having a hard time. Then /gg/ crashed and burned. According to Nico he "joked" about making Teridax (a third party troll) a mod, and the whole board took the joke seriously, and screwed him over an obvious joke. Other people claimed that Nico actually did give Terridax mod powers, but it was temporary. In anycase, people left /gg/ in droves. Next stop was /gamergate/ ran by a guy who ran several GG sites, and he gave the board to Bladee who was apparently a mod on /gg/ and was one of the better ones. For a while it was fine, and once again it was ran on looser rules. Then Drybones got into a fight with Ralph, who doxxed him, and then started getting into fight with other people in the tag on twitter, and started getting upset with them. Many of his buddies on twitter had previously burned out, and were constantly shit talking gg, and telling Drybones to just drop. At the same time Bladee was showing much the same signs, bitching about how autistic the community was, he also got into a fight with Ralph who compared Bladee to some mafia guy, causing Bladee to record a vocaroo saying "gamergate is retarded". Later after the whole thing went down, of the former janitors posted some logs of the shit they dealt with, and it seemed like the board was constantly getting hit with false flags, people playing both sides, etc, which may have increased his stress. According to some of bladee's friends, he ended up in a coma, and in the hospital over complications with diabetes, creating a period of time where he went dark, and the board went into a mess, complaining about him. Bladee was so upset over this he handed over the board to multiple trolls who nuked the board. I'm sorry the convoluted history lesson, but I'm not going to be accused of revising history if I include details. (One of Bladee's friends point of view on the nuking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btJgG75WdRA)

  5. After the second GG board got nuked, /v/ stepped in. People in these threads never liked the gg boards much, and saw them as honey pots for normalfags, but every time the boards were nuked, the threads got filled with problems, so /v/ decided to make a board for it. The idea was since a board with no rules kept failing, it would be a stricter, more structured board for it. Several boards were pitched (I still think we should have gone with /ggg/) and I think acid was chosen since he namefagged, so people knew him. Anyways that board went up, and at the same time /gg/ was in the hands of a new owner, and that was being pushed. /gg/ at the time was full of doxing, people making threats, etc. Originally the mod of Burger and Fries IRC was pulling for /gg/, but changed his mind when it was leaked that /gg/ may have been run by nico of death, and Drybones (Drybones later stated that was staged, but he did know who ran /gg/. Eventually HQ won out.

  7. I'm going to gloss over the next part, but basically when /gg/ went down, hq got more rowdy, and acid and crew let the rules lax a bit. Apparantly the board kept getting spammed with more and more off topic shit. Acid decided to "purge" the off topic stuff, and start enforcing the rules again. Swami went nuts, a ton of people were banned, reset their router bragged about being banned, and repeat. (I still think Acid hyping the 'purge' was a mistake, and it should have been done without theatrics, and told him so on /v/ at the time, but most people were cool with it. )

  9. After that these threads went nuts with people in here constantly accusing us of censorship (how?) and lying saying what Acid did was identical to what moot did, and if we had any shred of integrity integrity we'd condemn acidman, blah, blah, blah. Next they went to /pol/. I most remember /pol/ telling them to fuck off, but I'm biased, the official account is that /pol/ was pissed off about "the purge" and encouraged those who were displaced to make their own board, and revolt was born. The head of Burgers and Fries IRC endorsed it as the true gamergate board, as did many of his followers on twitter, and so on. One of the "best diggers" from the irc, Zan, was brought in as BO of Revolt. I don't know what happened, but he burnt out on Revolt pretty quick and quit. When he burnt out, he gave a rant about how at one time the IRC group pretty much ran all of gamergate. All the key people were in their secret ircs, and they had multiple secret ircs devoted to doxing, swatting, and doing what was necessary for gamergate. The mod of Burgers and fries claimed that was exaggerated, and that there were secret ircs, but they were just for digging.

  11. Okay, history lesson over. Now for the speculation/theory why all this shit is happening.
  12.
  13. **As previously said, the IRC guy really wanted GG to be a political thing, and his stepping stone to creating a "mediagate". When people starting burning out, and his IRC buddies started quitting, supposedly the group that thought they "controlled" gamergate started getting upset, so things like Airplay made them mad since they didn't like the ethical side of things. So now all the numbers are gone from all sides, and all that's left is a handful of autists. The theory is the autists of the IRC are upset with the autists on /v/ for ruining their power, so they constantly try to troll, and derail these threads to "punish' /v/ since they blame us**

  15. Like I said, it's just a theory floated in these threads, and I don't know how valid any of it is.
