  1. Alright, lets see if I can tackle everything down in one message.
  2. Regarding the price point: 90% of the tournaments were usually a number divisible by 5, so 10 sounds pretty good. If you wanted, 3/7 sounds much better than 5/5 from a competitors standpoint, since yes, you DO get a chance to win more money, but you do lose out on 2 bucks. Then again, there needs to be some sort of incentive for people to make the drive down to this weekly.
  3. So, again, lets say that 16 people enter the bracket:
  4. 3x16=48, while 5x16=80. As more people come, those two dollars scale and end up making a difference. In the course of a week, that's a difference of $192 to $320. You would want to switch to $5 dollar venue at SOME point, but as of right now, the best thing to do to entice people that aren't my friends and aren't your friends is to make it a flat 10, tell them why it's 10, and people usually understand since they won't think of it mathematically and 3 bucks isn't too much of a difference in a pot (although, it is) and all they know is that they're still paying 10 bucks and that's the same price as the 8 on the break tournament, where people like Keitaro and Blue do very well. So, at least here, they pay the same amount, get a bit of a smaller pot BUT give people a chance to actually win.
  5. Okay! On to the other topic: Actually running the tournament.
  6. Ace is a super chill guy, but might not have had any experience with TOing. He was sorta confused on why I was so adamant on running the tournament when I entered it, and it makes total sense! However, almost every TO enters their own tournament, and to get people moving to the setups to get the bracket moving as fast as possible, having a TO at the setups is smart. Then, having another TO ensures people are at setups when their co-TO is playing their bracket match. Anyways, I digress.
  7. I talked to Justin about it, but I need the Wi-Fi for my tablet, so I don't have to come to the TO desk every time. I've done that at every other tournament, and after talking to Keitaro and going to KTAR, I realized something so stupid- you can run the tournament from a Tablet PC. And multiple people can enter scores.
  8. So, what WE should do as TOs is to
  9. 1) Get a LAS Challenge account set up. I also already talked to Justin about this and we should be getting that set up soon.
  10. and
  11. 2) Get 2 tablets, one for me and one for you. I saw there was a huge one at the office, and I already have one, so there's that.
  12. As far as time goes, this is where I need to make sure we get this right.
  13. Yes, our friends entered, and yes, no one outside really came through, but delaying the tournament for nearly 2 hours for arbitrary reasons left a bad taste in my friends mouths. I had to convince them that it would be different next time. The "sign-ups" started at 6:30 and were supposed to run for 30 minutes. We'd seed the bracket for 10 minutes, and start the tournament after. However, with Ace over my shoulder it kind of made me hard pressed for time although we'd already wasted an hour or so, so some people like Khakis had to face two good people in his two tournament matches which leaves a bad first impression since losing doesn't really work well with money lol. The sign-ups ended up closing at like 8, and by then my friends were already contemplating leaving, but I reminded them that they paid and should just wait. They were getting angsty, and of course, that made me angsty. The tournament should have ended around 8. My friends had plans after that, but were canceled since it ended at 11. A 16 man bracket should not have run from 8 something to 11.
  14. The reasoning behind it I heard was because we were waiting for people. If that's the case, instead of having sign-ups early, make the sign-ups later. Imagine if, instead of my friends, it were seasoned tournament goers, or people who like tournaments. They would have never come back, and most likely told all their friends to not come back. That's not what we want- we want regulars. For that to happen, it is imperative that we be absolutely STRICT on time. Being pushover TOs result in people being unresponsive and show up half an hour for bracket. I remember, I hosted a tournament and my friend really wanted to go. I told him 4:30, sign-ups close. If I finish seeding the bracket and you're not here I can't do anything. Not even 3 minutes after seeding the bracket, he shows up. It's too late. I'm not postponing anything for 1 person.
  15. Stream was down, yes. You were gone, yes. But that was because the people needed for that went out. However, if sign-ups ended at 7, both of you would still be there, the stream would be getting fixed, and while that was happening you could have ran out to get the headset and when he was done with stream he could have gotten food with his GF, and the tournament would have started at around the right time.
  16. Basically, what I'm saying is that we need to be punctual. If we're waiting for friends, we won't make any new ones.
