- augustine is the fisher king
- overview
- in arthurian legend, the fisher king is tasked with guarding the holy grail, after failing to abide by the laws of the grail guardians, he is injured. typically the injury is below the waist.
- the fisher king is always in pain
- percival arrives at the fisher king's castle and is greeted with a huge feast, the fisher king giving percival a sword as a gift
- during dinner, after each course, there is a procession of the grail consisting of: the grail, the bleeding lance, and a candelabrum
- percival does not ask about the procession or these items as he had been taught not to talk too much, so he never learns anything about them
- percival goes to bed and awakes to find the castle in ruin and the fisher king dead, he later discovers that had he asked about the procession and items, he would have healed the fisher king and save the kingdom
- ----------------
- fisher king:
- - augustine
- - guardian of the grail
- - the last in the line of grail guardians
- - whatever the grail represents, he probably stole it or in someway it does not Belong to him
- - his power is power stealing now (woo)
- - the probable end game is for augustine to die when the arg is over in order to properly restore the grail
- - die or go somewhere indefinitely
- (maybe) wounded king
- - a 2nd king, comes in a pair
- - more heavily wounded and unable to do much, while the fisher king spends his day fishing, the wounded king typically remains alone in the castle, in pain
- - probably would only use this if more ppl needed to be an accessory
- - probably wont be used
- grail:
- - either a very important stolen item or a kidnapped individual
- - is either missing for the entire arg or goes missing in the middle of it
- - maybe half the arg is spent figuring out what it means and then the grail goes missing??
- - suggestion: maybe augustine starts stealing ppls powers, the grail is the stolen powers and u must get them back
- bleeding lance:
- - represents something, preferably evil (vantage??)
- - in the original text, it represented something purely evil, smth that could overpower grail's holiness
- percival:
- - the community solving the arg as a whole or maybe one or a specified group of individuals
- - will be the one required to retrieve the grail from the fisher king (whatever that entails)
- - has to ask the question to heal the fisher king and receive the grail, or kill the fisher king and lose the grail
- the sword:
- - wild card
- - who knows what the fuck its gonna be
- - a gift from the fisher king to percival
- - that makes it sound really fucking intimidating
- - idk what it would be at this time
- the question:
- - the fisher king is saved and the grail received if percival is asked the healing question
- - the point of the arg is to figure out what that question is
- - you have to ask a question concerning each item in procession: the lance is augustine's power, the grail is all the gathered powers
- ----------------
- outline of development?
- 1) the arg gains traction, no one really knows who or what it's abt
- 2) starts getting deep, allusions to real life events can start being made (current events being mentioned, etc)
- 3) things mentioned in the arg start directly affecting real life (predictions/prophecies/what have u)
- 4) the grail is taken
- 5) ????
- 6) the sword is received
- 8) the procession begins
- 9) the questions are asked
- 10) decision is made
- 11) grail is either recovered or lost, fisher king is either recovered or lost
- (the likelihood of the grail being "lost" is none at all, esp if its the powers route, but the thought that they might is nice a in character threat)
- chat log w/ a friend, i was basically info dumping and brain storming
- but his power now is stealing powers
- HE STILL DOES SHIT LIKE THAT BUT
- he gets this great idea that the best solution
- is to take everyones powers away
- like we're all under a dome and bad things are happening so if no one has powers itll be fine
- DHFJKH
- WELL SO HIS ARG IS
- based on the story of the fisher king
- in arthurian legend the fisher king is the last in a long line of grail holders
- he protects the grail
- and through some series of events he is wounded below the waist either leaving him disabled or impotent or both
- but percival comes to him
- and the fisher king invites him to a feast
- and things are all cool and great but while theyre eating
- theres a procession of 3 things
- candelabrum, the grail, and the bleeding lance
- well of course percival is like "dude the fuck"
- except not actually he doesnt ask the fisher king anything
- bc he was taught not to talk too much
- but after percival goes to bed and wakes back up
- the fisher king is dead, the kingdom is ruin, and the grail lost
- and he discovers that had he asked abt the procession he saw
- he would have learned abt the fisher kings and story and in turn would have healed him
- so the story of percival and the fisher king is basically abt asking the healing quesiton
- SO
- augustine, the fisher king, who's physically disabled but also metaphorically (his guilt complex)
- wants to be healed (absolved of his guilt)
- percival (either an individual, group, or the community solving the arg as a whole [havent decided yet]) through the arg must figure out what question to ask the fisher king to locate the grail (the powers augustine has stolen)
- the question that has to be asked is basically the whole point of the arg
- however it starts w/ like weird unconnected concepts
- kind of like a prefacing
- explaining the story of the fisher king in weird the ring esque montages
- until the things the arg is revealing end up relating back to current events
- ie maybe someone got stabbed and the arg ends up speaking indepth abt it
- but after that it then uprights starts Predicting (prophesying?) events that take place in the city
- which is what will probably be the clue in for the whole thing is a bigger mess
- and then shortly after THAT
- ppls powers start disappearing
- so the grail is being Goners
- but uuh
- so also in the story of the fisher king, the king gives percival a sword as a gift
- the purpose of said sword is widely unknown/only speculated the purpose of
- but for the arg im going to be using it as sort of a wild card
- depending on what kind of information is gathered at this point
- the sword will be given to percival (or rlly just everyone solving the arg) as a sort of
- well
- IT CAN EITHER BE A HINT OR A HANDICAP
- LIKE I CANT DECIDE THAT UNTIL IT GETS TO THAT POINT
- but it'll reveal more information that will be useful in the things to come
- and so after the sword is given
- the procession begins
- which will probably be a like sequence of different, vague things alluding to what they represent
- like as a whole
- so the bleeding lance will have idk SOMETHING that can lend u to be like "oo yes ok bleeding lance"
- and same for the grail
- (the candelabrum is unimportant in the procession idk why its even mentioned in the text)
- (like literally what the fuck)
- BUt anyways
- there will be a period of figuring out the question
- bc its assumed at this point the players have made the connection to the fisher king (like its literally the name of the arg)
- so they will know they Have to ask a question
- depending on what question they ask they can either: heal the fisher king and retrieve the grail OR kill the fisher king and the powers would be lost
- the latter option is impossible as this is a superpower related rp and it is only there for the in character threat
- THERE IS A THIRD OPTION WHERE AFTER ABSOLVING AUGUSTINE
- AND GETTING THE GRAIL
- U DELIVER A SWIFT BEAT DOWN TO HIM
- and thats it
