  1. The scene is a bedroom, cluttered with clothes, left over food, American take out boxes, TV, computer, toys, Kimono, cheap imitation goods of feudal Japan. Near the TV is a display holder for a set of three Japanese swords. The largest of which is missing. The walls are covered in posters from movies. Westerns, Samurai films, films about feudal Japan. One poster size spot on the wall is empty.
  2.
  3. There is a pounding at the door.
  4.
  5. Woman’s voice (English): David. *KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK* DAVID! WHERE ARE YOU??
  6.
  7. David, a tall, lanky white man is running down the street at night. David is wearing a leather trench coat and fedora which is at stark contrast to the couple he passes on the street who are dressed in shorts and short sleeves. The couple share a confused look. David is holding the sword, missing from the previous scene, in one hand, and a Bible in the other. Across his chest, David is wearing a satchel.
  8.
  9. The camera watches the door to a church at night. The door is a wooden frame around a large glass panel. David arrives at it, panting.
  10.
  11. David tucks the Bible under one elbow, flourishes his still sheathed sword, and kicks the wooden frame of the door to the church.
  12.
  13. The door takes no effect from the kick - not even shaking. David audibly exclaims in pain, wincing, and limping. David studies the door closely, the camera zooms in for a good look at the door. David rubs his finger over the solid wood where he just kicked. David backs up.
  14.
  15. Again, a flourish of sword, again a kick, this time, direct on the center of the glass panel.
  16.
  17. The door takes no effect from the kick - not even shaking. David loudly exclaims in pain, wincing, limping.
  18.
  19. David tosses the Bible to the ground, then, with obvious care and reverence, sets his cheap replica sword on the ground. David searches the ground and leaves screen for a moment. David returns carrying a small rock. He winds up, throws the rock directly against the glass. No effect. Again, David leaves the screen. Returning, this time, with a medium sized rock he is struggling to hold. The rock is heaved forward, back, once, twice, three times, then thrown. It too bounces useless off the door.
  20.
  21. David sags against the door, whimpering. Against his weight, the door is pushed open.
  22.
  23. Church interior. David, carrying his possessions once more approaches an altar laid out in front of a cross.
  24.
  25. David sets his sword and Bible on the altar. From his satchel he draws a butane lighter, and uses it to light the candles around the altar. Ominous music builds in the background during the lighting ceremony.
  26.
  27. From the satchel again, David withdraws a folded up poster. He unfurls it, and sticks it against the cross on the altar. The poster is from the movie The Last Samurai(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KbeoPrTtWYc/VfZawiRfF7I/AAAAAAAAAhg/-M8qTgkENnc/s1600/1-997.jpg) showing Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe standing together.
  28.
  29. David picks up his Bible, and pages through it. The ominous music is increasing in volume and tempo.
  30.
  31. David (English): From the book of Matthew, the twenty first chapter ‘If ye shall say unto this mountain Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.’
  32.
  33. David (English shrieking): My soul is not of this sickly white flesh! These ugly round eyes! My body has betrayed me! I AM NOT A WESTERN MAN! I WAS MEANT TO BE A SAMURAI. I WAS INTENDED TO BE… TO BE A SOLDIER… A SOLDIER…
  34.
  35. David folds The Last Samurai poster to show only Tom Cruise.
  36.
  37. David (English shrieking): I WAS MEANT TO BE A TRUE SAMURAI IN SERVICE TO THE EMPEROR!!
  38.
  39. David snaps his Bible shut. A thunderclap accompanies it. The music goes silent.
  40.
  41. David (English): Give me the soul of a Samurai.
  42.
  43. David sets the Bible down and picks up his sword with both hands. He draws it slowly from the sheath, which he sets on the table. He slowly maneuvers the sword into the posture of one who will commit seppuku. For a moment, everything is still. Then David plunges the blade into his own stomach.
  44.
  45. For a moment, David folds over, doubled up in pain, grasping the blade with both hands.
  46.
  47. David (English, whispering): yes, Yes, YES!
  48.
  49. David slowly withdraws the sword from his stomach. It comes out, leaving no wound behind. David sets the sword down and throws his into the air to exclaim in celebration.
  50.
  51. David (Japanese): IT WORKED!!!
  52. *When David speaks in Japanese his voice is that of a distinctive angry old Japanese man*
  53.
  54. David, still screaming joyfully in Japanese, runs from the church. The camera remains in the church, to pan slowly to a figure sitting in the shadows. The camera zooms in on the figure to reveal it is an old priest, who nods once.
  55.
  56. THE BEDROOM FROM EARLIER.
  57.
  58. The camera shows David’s bed, unmade, and strewn with clothes. A fully packed bag flies on to the bed. Another, a moment later. A third, a duffle bag with sword handles emerging from it.
  59.
  60. Cut to David, pulling his leather trench coat on over a Kimono. David’s mother is in the doorway.
  61.
  62. Mother (English): I don’t understand, where are you going?
  63.
  64. David, grabbing his bags (English): You can’t understand mother… I can’t stay here with you…
  65.
  66. David grabs his last bag, spins in a circle to come to rest with a single finger pointing at his mother.
  67.
  68. David (English and Japanese voice simultaneously): GAIJIN!!!
