4. Bargain.  Unlike in the West, haggling is perfectly acceptable in many African stores.  You can expect the salesperson to give you a price that is much higher than the real worth of the item you are purchasing.

5. Buy a cheap mobile phone when you get there.

6. Get your goddamn shots.  Malaria is a bitch.

7. If you're gonna take a camera, take one that is waterproof.
