Reasoning: With the newfound potential threats in the school and Zane's continued drive to fix the problems the place has and allow it to advance Humanity as a whole, he was brought to a point where he came to terms that his current strength wasn't enough to accomplish everything he wanted to. Such threats including the Headmaster himself after the incident where they straight up murdered a student, the ever-foreshadowed youkai invasion, and even his fellow students that have proven to become stronger and stronger over time, even surpassing threats he formerly thought unreachable like Fuya. In addition, his future plans for restoring the school will be risky gambits that he wanted to be absolutely prepared for. Taking all of that into consideration, as well as needing to try and gain more control over the warped and chaotic power at his fingertips, he spent the night after yesterday's madness trying to tame and advance the beast's power for the future conflicts that are to come.
What is the moment: Spending many hours deep underground where he could be isolated to meditate and confront the beast sealed inside him directly. Zane came to further understand the source of his slowly surfacing power, even speaking with it and discussing the very same matters as what is listed above. After much consideration, he attempted to weaken the seal on the creature in order to allow more of its influence and power to surface when need be, as well as giving him the chance to call upon it more at will and attempt to control it.
