  1. >You are Anon, Diplomat extraordinaire
  2. >You have been living in the royal palace in Canterlot for about two years now
  3. >You know the ins and outs of it like the back of your hand
  4. >You swagger your way through the corridors of the magnificent palace
  5. >Ever guard you pass stands at attention at your presence
  6. >You silk robe flows as you strut your stuff
  7. >You truly are the biggest dick OG
  8. >Something catches your ear as you walk
  9. >It’s coming from Celestia’s room
  10. >You press your head against the door
  11. >It sounded like soft weeping
  12. >You rap on the door a couple times
  13. “Cely?”
  14. >The weeping stops for a second
  15. >”Anon?”
  16. >You grab the latch and begin to open the door
  17. >You’re only able to open it a crack before it’s surrounded by Celestia’s golden aura and slammed in your face
  18. >”Don’t come in!”
  19. “What’s wrong?”
  20. >Silence
  21. >”Celestia?”
  22. >The door unlatches and drifts open
  23. >You peek your head inside before completely stepping in
  24. >Celestia is sitting on her bed, facing away from you
  25. >Her usually flowing mane is resting on her back, covering her body
  26. “Celestia?”
  27. >She turns her body towards you
  28. >You gasp at what you see
  29. >Her normally white fur is a light grey color and patches of it are missing
  30. >Her gut is shrunken to the point that you can see her ribcage
  31. >Her mane is still draped in front of her face
  32. >You climb onto the bed and reach a hand out to brush it away
  33. >A bone hoof smacks your hand away
  34. >”I-I don’t want you to see me in this state.”
  35. “Cely…”
  36. >You reach your hand out again, this time finding no objection
  37. >You move her hair behind her ear
  38. >Her tear stained cheeks are sunken in
  39. >A milky white eye shifts to look at you, then down at the bed
  40. >”There, now you see…”
  41. >More tear well up in her eyes
  42. >You don’t understand, she was fine last night
  43. “What happened?”
  44. >She looks up at you, her eyes twinkle even in their current state
  45. >”I’m turning into a monster, Anon.”
  46. “But, why?”
  47. >She lets out a wiry sigh
  48. >”Anon, I wasn’t always immortal.”
  49. >You were shocked to hear this
  50. >”I had to go through a ritual to imbue myself with very strong, very dangerous magic. My parents forced both me and Luna to do this ritual, as they were forced to do it as well.”
  51. >You had heard stories about Celestia and Luna’s parents, but you never knew what happened to them
  52. >”But… They didn’t realize how dangerous the magic actually was. After nearly 2500 years the magic became unstable and began to degrade their bodies and their minds. They went insane and their magic was nearly unstoppable. Only the creator of the spell and his creation could stop it.”
  53. >Twilight had told you about a myth about a spell that grants immortality, but is was lost when Starswirl the Bearded died, but you never heard anything about his ‘creation’
  54. >”Starswirl was able to control the magic. He had to kill my parents, but his creation had suffered severely because of it. Starswirl was unable to simple dissolve the magic, and releasing it would have cause a major catastrophe. So, he embedded it in his creation, the only other creature to know how to control the magic. But this would cause events far worse. The creation turned on his master, killing him and naming himself ruler of Equestria, reigning in a hundred years of chaos.”
  55. “Discord!”
  56. >You didn’t mean to yell, but this revelation caught you off guard
  57. >”Yes, Discord. We were forced to flee the land, but not before getting some of Starswirl’s research. With the information we received from his study we forged six magic stones from Starswirl’s remaining magic.”
  58. “The Elements of Harmony.”
  59. >”But they still weren’t powerful enough to defeat Discord, only freeze him in stone. On his reawakening a few years ago, Luna and I saw an opportunity to make sure we don’t end up like our parents. That’s why we had him ‘rehabilitated’ by Fluttershy, but he still won’t help us. My only hope was Twilight, but she still failed.”
  60. ”And now your magic is starting to become unstable.”
  61. >She begins sobbing again
  62. >”I don’t want to end up like my parents, Anon!”
  63. >You throw your arm around her and pull her close to your chest
  64. ”You won’t. I’ll head to Ponyville and talk to Twi. She has to have something. How long before you…”
  65. >She sniffing long enough to answer you
  66. >”It took my parents about a week to change fully.”
  67. “I’ll head to Ponyville on the next train. I’ll make sure you don’t end up like them.”
  68. >She looks you in the eye and smiles warmly
  69.
  70. The Next Morning
  71. >You’re on the train back to Canterlot
  72. >You time spent with Twilight was fruitless
  73. >You spent all night going through her library and the Castle of the Two Sisters
  74. >You don’t want to face Celestia
  75. >It’ll be too hard
  76. >You become misty eyed
  77. >You didn’t want to lose her
  78. >She means more than the world to you
  79. >The train hisses to a halt and you step off onto the platform
  80. >Luna is stand there, waiting for you
  81. >A smile cracks across her face when she sees you
  82. >”Anonymous!”
  83. >She wave a hoof, beckoning you over
  84. >You walk over to her, you expression says everything
  85. >Her smile turns to a frown
  86. >She sees the sadness in your face
  87. >She places a hoof on your shoulder to comfort you
  88. >”It is okay, Anonymous…”
  89. >You and her climb into a carriage that brings you to the castle
  90. >You notice something about Luna
  91. “Luna, why aren’t you…”
  92. >She cuts you off
  93. >”I did the ritual long after my dear sister.”
  94. “Oh…”
  95. >You stare silently at the floor for the rest of the trip
  96. >Once you arrived at the castle you head directly for Celestia’s chambers
  97. >Once you get to the doors you hesitate
  98. >You take a deep breath and knock
  99. >”Come in.”
  100. >You step in, keeping your eyes on the floor
  101. >You see Celestia hooves come into view
  102. >”Anon…”
  103. >She raises a hoof to you chin, bring your eyes to hers
  104. >She looks even worse than yesterday
  105. >More of her fur was missing and the skin that showed through was a light purple
  106. >Her mane had lost most of its color, reverting to a white-grey
  107. >Her horn had begun to chip away and her wings were losing feathers
  108. >Her eyes were almost completely white
  109. >The look on her face was heartbreaking
  110. >She know there was nothing that could be done
  111. >She silently turned and went back to her bed, sitting on its edge
  112. >You take a seat next to her
  113. >”I know you tried…”
  114. >You place your head on her shoulder
  115. >”I want you to leave.”
  116. >This took you by surprise
  117. >”I don’t want you to see what I become. I’m already hideous.”
  118. >You place a hand on her check, lightly corseting it as you looking into her eyes
  119. “You’re still beautiful and I’m not going to leave you. I’ll be here with you until the end, no matter what.”
  120. >”I don’t want to hurt you Anon.”
  121. “Knowing you’re going to leave has hurt more than anything ever could. That’s why I want to spend these next days by your side.”
  122. >She lies down in the bed and you cuddle up next to her, get your body as close to hers as you could
  123. >She envelops you in a hug with her wing and you rest your head against her chest
  124.
  125. >The next morning you meet Luna and Celestia for breakfast in the dining hall
  126. >You sit opposite the two sister
  127. >Celestia has taken up wearing a hooded cloak
  128. >She doesn’t want anyone else to know what’s happening to her
  129. >She seems to be getting worse
  130. >Luna told you that she had to help her find the dining hall
  131. >During your meal you give Celestia a memory test
  132. >She remembers a lot about her past and names, but got the layout of this castle mixed with the Castle of the Two Sisters
  133. >Luna seems very distort over what’s happening to her sister and you can’t blame her
  134. >You tell her about your plans to spend these last days with Celestia
  135. >This makes her happy to know that you’ll be by her side to look over her
  136. >Luna has started taking up Celestia’s royal duties and has little free time
  137. >She even raised the sun this morning, much to Celestia’s dismay
  138. >Celestia seem to be upset over the fact that she is being taken out of her own daily life so quickly
  139. >You tell her that you intend to make these the best days of her life
  140. >She seems to take some solace in your words
  141. >After breakfast Celestia retreats back to her room
  142. >You pull Luna aside
  143. “Luna, can I ask you a very important favor?”
  144. >”Of course, Anonymous.”
  145.
  146. >You sit lay in a field underneath the Wonderbolt’s training… grounds?
  147. >Skies is a more appropriate term
  148. >Celestia lies next to you, still wearing her cloak
  149. >She hasn’t let you see her face all day
  150. >Both of you stare up at the cloud structures and the tiny ponies as they whirl around them
  151. >One of them grows in size as they decent to the ground
  152. >Spitfire lands a few feet away from you
  153. >Both you and Celestia climb to your feet
  154. >Recognizing the princess, Spitfire does a quick bow
  155. >”Princess, what brings you out to the field today?”
  156. >”I’ve come to see how your performance is coming along, Flash.”
  157. >Spitfire cocks her head
  158. >”Flash?”
  159. >You step in
  160. “Cely’s feeling a little under the weather, so I brought her out her for some fresh air.”
  161. >She turns to you
  162. >”Well you’re not going to get that good of a view from down here, Nonny. I can tell the crew to bring the course down so you can get a better view. Luna knows they can use the exercise.”
  163. “It’s no problem, really. We’re just fine down her.”
  164. >She shrugs and begins to take off
  165. >”Suit yourself.”
  166. >As she ascends you let out the breath you didn’t know you were holding
  167. >You had a little pull with the Wonderbolt
  168. >You went to a lot of their shows before you became cool guy diplomat
  169. >Mostly because you used to have a thing for Spitfire
  170. >And the first time you met her in person, it showed
  171. >She will never let you live that down
  172. >But that’s a story you don’t wish to recall
  173. >Now you and her are kind of friends, hanging out every once in a while, usually after local shows
  174. >You turn to Celestia, who is looking at you
  175. >Her eyes seem to glow under the shadow of the hood
  176. “You wanna go get some ice cream?”
  177. >She smiles and nods
  178.
  179. >Celestia brings a spoonful of dairy delight to her mouth
  180. >Even under the hood you can tell she’s enjoying it
  181. >Even though you had ordered your own dish you hadn’t taken a single bite
  182. >You enjoyed watching her eat
  183. >She did it so… gracefully
  184. >Taking her time with each bite
  185. >When she removes the spoon from her mouth you notice a dabble of ice cream on her lip
  186. >You pick up a napkin and reach over the table to wipe her snout
  187. >As your hand gets close it is swatted away by a hoof
  188. >You quickly retract it
  189. >”I’m not helpless, I can take care of myself.”
  190. >She raises her own napkin to her mouth, wiping away the ice cream
  191. >You open your mouth, but quickly close it
  192. >You decide not to protest and instead focus on your fast melting dessert
  193.
  194. >The rest of the week you spent caring for Celestia
  195. >Although she protested most of it
  196. >Her memory is also getting much worst
  197. >She didn’t even remember Twilight when you arrived in Ponyville
  198. >This broke both your and Twilight’s heart
  199. >Today was the seventh day
  200. >You and Celestia walked up a hill, just on the outskirts of the small town
  201. >You set down and she takes the spot next to you
  202. >You check your watch, then look up at the sun as it begins to slowly descend over the horizon
  203. >It stops at about the half-way point as sits on the edge of the world
  204. >You only have a few moments to admire its beauty before a black mass begins to move into its golden light
  205. >Luna’s moon moves in front of the Celestia’s dear sun
  206. >The two stellar objects combine to create a breathtaking lunar eclipse
  207. >You hear Celestia begin to sob
  208. >You turn to her placing a hand on her shoulder
  209. >She buries her head into the side of your arm
  210. >You wrap your arms around her as you both look at the eclipse
  211. >After several moments of silence you bring her to eye level
  212. >You reach out, placing your hands inside the hood shadowing Celestia
  213. >She places a hoof against your hand in protest
  214. “Please…”
  215. >She lowers her hoof
  216. >You push the hood back and reveal her face
  217. >Her condition deteriorated dramatically
  218. >Her fur was almost completely gone
  219. >Her mane was little more and a few patches of hair that remained attached
  220. >Her eyes don’t even seem to be their anymore, replaced by a faint white-blue glow
  221. >Some of her flesh had flaked away around her mouth, leaving small gaps in her lips
  222. >Yet see was still perfect in your eyes
  223. >You wrapped your arms around her neck and pulled her in for a kiss
  224. >It was tender and loving
  225. >You didn’t want this moment to end
  226.
  227. >But… it had to
  228. >You unlocked you lips from hers and pulled her in for a hug
  229. >”I love you, Anon.”
  230. >Tears began to well up in your eyes
  231. “I love you too, Cely.”
  232. >”I’m going to miss you…”
  233. >You bury you head into her bony shoulder
  234. “Promise to remember me…”
  235. >”Anon, you know…”
  236. “Promise!”
  237. >She brushes you hair with her hoof
  238. >”I promise…”
  239. >She give you a kiss on the forehead
  240. >You look over her shoulder and give a nod
  241. >Twilight nods back as her horn glows to life
  242. >You squeeze Celestia as tight to you as you can
  243. >A beam of magical energy sprouts from Twilight’s horn and strike her mentor
  244. >In a flash Celestia is gone, leaving you empty armed
  245. >You begin to pound the ground as you bawl your eyes out, repeating every swear in the book
  246. >You collapse to the ground and curl up
  247. >Twilight trots over to you
  248. >You look up at her through your tear stained eyes
  249. >A blue mass of magic was encapsulated in her aura
  250. >”Anon, I think I should take on the magic.”
  251. “No, it’s my responsibility.”
  252. >”Anon, I’m more suited…”
  253. “Twilight!”
  254. >She gives you a worried look before admitting defeat and encapsulating you in the same aura as the magic
  255. >She slowly drifts the magic to you
  256. >As it makes contact with your body you feel a surge of energy
  257. >But there was something else
  258. >A heartwarming feeling
  259. >Something that tells you everything is going to be okay
  260.
  261. >You returned to Canterlot
  262. >After consoling a crying Luna for hours you decide it’s best to go to bed now
  263. >She was going to release the news tomorrow
  264. >You crawl into you bed and curl up
  265. >You close your eyes
  266. >The last moment of Celestia’s life keep flashing through your head
  267. >You try fruitlessly to clear your mind
  268. >You couldn’t cry anymore
  269. >It just haunted you now
  270. >After enough time, though, you’re able to drift into slumber
  271. >You are presented with a white abyss
  272. >A golden light peer through the bleached plain
  273. >You lift a hand to shield yourself from the blinding glow
  274. >The sound of hoof beats makes you look into the light
  275. >As your eyes adjust you are awe struck by the sight
  276. >Celestia steps forth from the light
  277. >You jaw drop
  278. >She is back to her old self
  279. >The thought of this being just a dream hits you, overwhelming you with sadness
  280. >Celestia trots up to you
  281. >You look up at her sparkling eyes as they peer down at you
  282. >She smiles as she pulls you in with a hoof
  283. >Enveloping you in a hug you can feel the warmth of her body, the softness of her fur
  284. >You begin to tear up again
  285. >”I never had a chance to say goodbye and thank you.”
  286. >You’re to overcome to respond, only pressing your head closer to her chest
  287. >”This is the last time you’ll see me Anon. I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I know the burden you now carry is a difficult one. Stay strong.”
  288. >You nod against her chest
  289. >She brings her head down and gives you a tender kiss before releasing you
  290. >”I won’t forget you, I promise. I love you.”
  291. >She begins to fade away
  292. >Before you relies it she’s gone
  293. “I… love you too.”
  294. End
