  1. Note I do not claim credit for the original idea of this locke, this is merely a take on these rules: http://s7.zetaboards.com/Nuzlocke_Forum/topic/8733103/1/ with a little bit of added flavor. Keep in mind these rules are quite long, so if you don't wish to read them, just try to follow along as we go.
  2.
  3. - BASIC NUZLOCKE RULES -
  4.
  5. 1. Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released, or placed permanently into a death box.
  6.
  7. 2. The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.
  8.
  9. 3. The second rule also includes static (gift, egg, trade, and legendary) Pokémon, since these can be found occasionally in towns, cities, or routes where encountering a Pokémon is possible.
  10.
  11. 4. Dupes clause: If you run into a Pokémon you have already caught as a first encounter, you must run away and try again.
  12.
  13. 5. All Pokémon caught must be nicknamed, to strengthen emotional bonds.
  14.
  15. - CHESSLOCKE RULES -
  16.
  17. Here's where things get a little complicated, which is why if you're ever confused you can refer back to this sheet, I will be referring to the rules myself if I ever forget something.
  18.
  19. 1. Throughout the entire game, we will be playing a game of chess, partially. This means we can only have one king, one queen, two bishops, two knights, two rooks, and eight pawns.
  20.
  21. 2. This means we are only allowed to catch 16 Pokémon throughout the ENTIRE run. This includes Starters, Wild Pokémon, and Legendaries alike.
  22.
  23. 3. This also means you must carefully think about what Pokémon you want on your team, once you capture them there is no going back, and you will have to assign a role to them.
  24.
  25. 4. You may only have one of each piece on your team at a time.
  26.
  27. - ASSIGNED ROLES AND RULES FOR PIECES -
  28.
  29. King: Your King is your starter, regardless if it is a male or female, and must be in your party at ALL TIMES. The basic rule of a King is simple, should you lose him it's checkmate. Your King must be the highest leveled member at your team as well, just above the Queen.
  30.
  31. Queen: Your Queen must be a female, and is STRONGLY recommended that it be in the same egg group as your King. The Queen can not out level the King, but can match his level. The Queen also cannot fall below any other pieces except the King.
  32.
  33. Bishop: Your Bishops must either be in the same egg group, or share the same typing, dual types may apply (Ex: One Bishop is a Water/Ground, the other is a Dragon/Ground). They may only have two damaging moves at any time, this doesn't mean they are required to have two, and can have one, or none if necessary.
  34.
  35. Knight: Your Knights follow the same Egg/Type rule as the Bishops, but cannot share the same typing as them (Ex: Both Bishops are Water Bishops, your Knights must be anything but Water). Knights may only use moves with a base power lower than 60 (Before STAB, Typing Advantages, or Stat Items), and may also have non damaging moves.
  36.
  37. Rook: Follows the previous Egg/Type rule as the two previous pieces, and as well cannot share the same typing as them. Your Rook may not use any damaging move with a secondary effect (Ex: Ember damages and has a chance to burn). You can still however use non damaging moves with single effects (Ex: Stun Spore only paralyzes and does no damage).
  38.
  39. Pawn: Is not allowed to evolve past its current stage when caught, and does not follow the previous Egg/Type ruling as any other piece. Every Pawn must be a different typing, this only applies to the Pawn at its current form (Ex: Capture a Dratini who is only a Dragon type, and a Pidgey who is a Normal/Flying. If both are Pawns on your team, Dratini is allowed to stay even though Dragonite is a Dragon/Flying) (So it's also recommended that Pawns are only single typing to avoid any sort of confusion, but this is optional).
  40.
  41. - If a Pawn wins any Major Battle by itself (Gym Leader, Rival, Giovanni, E4, Etc.) it is allowed to become a Bishop Knight or Rook, does not have to follow the Egg/Type rules as the other pieces do, and is allowed to evolve. It can also become a Queen, should the current Queen be dead or nonexistent, but the Pawn must be a Female. (When it says "By itself" it doesn't mean it has to be the ONLY one in your party, obviously that would negate the King rule, it just has to "Participate in battle" by itself, obviously should he faint you can switch out).
  42.
  43. Level Rule: Every Pawn must be around the same level, within reason of 5 levels. Same applies to the Bishops, Knights and Rooks, again within reason of 5 levels. Pawns cannot out level said pieces, and they cannot out level the royalty pieces, as already stated.
  44.
  45. If a Pokémon violates a move rule (Ex: You catch and assign a Pokémon to the role of Knight, but he has a 65 base power attack) you are allowed to use the Pokémon, so long as you act as if the illegal move doesn't exist and you must replace the move with the very next legal move, or if you have a Pokémon editing tool such as Pokégen or something similar, you can simply go in and just delete the move.
  46.
  47. - END OF RULES -
  48.
  49. Now obviously this Nuzlocke is going to be much harder than most, because of the limitations put on many Pokémon. It will also likely take a lot of time to complete this, since Pokémon will constantly have to be grinded up in order to reach the level rules.
