  1. Characters
  2. Protagonists
  3. Morgan Demorrir: Our protagonist, ladies and gentlemen. She’s 17 in high school, plays drums for her band, and is a magician. She has a bent for lateral thinking. After pledging her service to Zaresi, the local death god, she ends up entangled in the local world of magic. She generally likes to summon weapons for close-ranged combat, despite both Laura and Evan’s insistences that this is an absurd tactic. After Zaresi nukes the city, Morgan defects, and creates a plan to kill Zaresi using world artifacts as a power source.
  4. Holly Demorrir: Morgan’s twin sister, she narrowly escapes death of a car crash thanks to Morgan’s contract with Zaresi. She is uninvolved in the world of formal magic. She is the only innocent spared in the destruction of the city, due to Zaresi’s contract with Morgan, and the two go on the run together. While Holly never develops any Magician ability, she does manage to become a Witch, and assists Morgan in her ultimate plan. She starts using Death magic, and begins learning rituals.
  5. Zaresi: A local death god, he sets up his base under the cemetery at the edge of town. He’s one of the more powerful gods in the area due to the locals’ emphasis on superstition and diverse spiritual customs. Has three primary Magicians, one of whom turns into a spirit at the start of the story and is replaced by Morgan, a squadron of secondary Magicians, the odd Witch/Warlock, and a number of Spirits, due to having built up the army over time. His ultimate goal is becoming the world’s death god, at any cost (and as a death god, his attitudes towards such are somewhat medieval), and as such he needs to expand his power. He ends Season 1 by sucking the life out of everything and everyone not serving him in the city, thus gaining enough power to make his claim against the world.
  6. Laura Velasquez: One of Zaresi’s three top Magicians. She meets Morgan at the start of the story and introduces her to the world. She’s generally a very patient person but can be sharp when pushed, and she favors on-the-spot ranged casting. Becomes the commander of Zaresi’s troops after the ritual.
  7. Evan Evans: The other remaining top Magician at the start of the story. He hangs out at the high school to keep an eye on Morgan, as well as any other potential talent or Magicians of enemy gods. A deeply lax human being with a bent for rituals (notably carries around a camera he enchants regularly to produce mind-wiping spells). Doesn’t appreciate his name being commented on. Likes birds, and is kind of an asshole. The creator of a ritual that enables Zaresi to steal the mana from every living thing in the city and become incredibly powerful.
  8. Elizabeth (Liz): Zaresi’s main Spirit, a Reaper. About 18 physically, but is as old as the town, and has worked for Zaresi for a very long time. After Novju is killed, she defects, realizing that Zaresi not only disrespects the treaties, he disrespects the fundamental nature of modern godhood. She is an expert thief and assists Morgan in the pilfering of world artifacts.
  9. Other Death Magicians and Spirits: Zaresi has the largest base of employment in the town, made up of half a dozen Magicians and a dozen Spirits.
  10. Jeremy Picard: One of Zaresi’s new Magicians, taken from Nicholas. Is fairly young, and mostly gets used as a messenger. Used to power Zaresi’s ritual.
  11. Farana: A minor spirit who served Novju, and joins Morgan after she’s defeated.
  12. Antagonists
  13. Shroud: Morgan’s predecessor. A fairly powerful Magician who nonetheless attempted to use too much mana at one and turned into a rogue Spirit. Hunted down by Morgan in the first episode. Was apparently fairly overdramatic. Was used as a pawn by Zaresi in order to recruit Morgan.
  14. Shroud’s Tulpa: A large monster that attacks the school, and is defeated by Morgan and Evan working together. Was made using most of Shroud’s mana, in order to try and recruit Morgan.
  15. Nicholas Langer: The first major threat in the series, he’s a traveling sorcerer who comes to town as part of a recruitment drive. Most of the town gods band together to drive him off, as he’s very old and very powerful. He uses Death magic, and was drawn to the town due to the presence of Zaresi. He attempts to detonate himself upon realizing he’s lost in his attempt to claim the Magicians of the town, but a ritual Evan invented causes his mana to be drained away and given to Zaresi.
  16. Nicholas’s Casters: Nicholas has a small company of various Witches/Warlocks and Magicians, all of whom owe him loyalty (this makes him, more or less, a minor god). All are fairly powerful and exceptionally well-trained, and since Nicholas is himself a Sorcerer, have a wide variety of spells at their disposal.
  17. Other Local Gods:
  18. Vorn: The local war goddess. She’s not a terribly powerful figure, mostly basing energy of off conflict in City Hall, where she makes her headquarters. Zaresi’s primary opponent, since she’s the immediately available one. Has the second-highest count of Magicians, after Zaresi, but has a far smaller Spirit count due to being a younger god. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  19. Richard Cook: Vorn’s head Magician. He uses huge, battle-altering rituals and spells to manage Vorn’s troops in combat. Doesn’t talk much. Killed by Evan, his death providing Zaresi the opening he needs to challenge Vorn.
  20. Janice Kim: Vorn’s second-in-command Magician, a battlecaster who leads on the front lines. Good at surviving, and has a sense of humor. Survives Zaresi’s ritual through foresight and escapes the town, later joins Morgan’s band.
  21. Zachary Sess: One of Vorn’s new Magicians, a battlecaster like Janice. Taken from Nicholas. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  22. Makhai: Vorn’s nickname for his Spirits, taken from the spirits of war commanded by Ares. They are heavily armed and quite deadly, but are few in number. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  23. Nalis: The love god, whose headquarters is in a small park at the edge of town. He has a handful of Magicians and Spirits, and seems focused more on maintaining his hold in the town than in expansion. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  24. Erian: The weather goddess, whose base moves sporadically from rooftop to rooftop. Largely uninvolved in the local politics, focusing on keeping the weather functioning, but she does have a habit of making strange grabs for power. She only has a single Magician in her service, but several Spirits. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  25. James Wyatt: Erian’s only Magician, taken from Nicholas. Also possibly her lover. He doesn’t accomplish much. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  26. Forecasters: Taking the form of young women with umbrellas, the weather Spirits have power over water, wind, ice, and lightning. They can occasionally cause trouble. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  27. Novju: The parking goddess, headquartered in the garage under City Hall. Has a surprisingly high base of worshippers (everyone likes parking) but only two Magicians, neither of which are very important. This is actually a long con, as her immense worshipper base has allowed her to set up avatars in almost all parts of the world under varying aliases, defying almost every treaty existing amongst the gods. After Zaresi’s ritual, she reveals herself across the world and is one of Zaresi’s primary opponents. In the end, however, she is defeated by him.
  28. Supporting Characters
  29. Minor Characters
  30. Allen Rann: The guitarist and unofficial manager of Morgan’s band, “Gazillion Degrees.” He’s kind of bombastic, but ultimately wants the best for his band. Consequently, he has a lot of issues with Morgan’s sporadic disengagement. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  31. Jacob Toller: The keyboard player in “Gazillion Degrees.” Doesn’t seem to be aware of anything ever. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual.
  32. Quinn Perez: The singer in “Gazillion Degrees.” Has a crush on Morgan. Killed by Zaresi’s ritual, but becomes a Spirit, and ends up joining forces with Morgan. When alive, was a Magician for Nalis, and retains those abilities after death.
