Bohemia Cash Grab-active strikes again

(OLD) Rant / rage / vent / what will happen
So, as some people are now aware of Bohemia Interactive is allowing server monetization, an idea that will completely shit all over the ARMA modding community and the way we play on our favorite server(s). Now some of you know where I stand on "ideas" like this and I absolutely hate the idea and am totally against it. So with that I am shutting down the website and removing my work slowly from the internet one day at a time. I will not stand for this "idea" nor will I continue to support Bohemia Interactive(cash grab-active) anymore.

I entered the ARMA modding scene back in late 2009 early 2010 and fell in love with the game and enjoyed the way the community helped each other but ever since that faithful month back in 2012 when DayZ was made available to the public, something that I even supported and was apart of has ruined Bohemia Interactive(cash grab-active) and has slowly degraded the modding community. The release of ARMA 3 was an exciting time for me and a lot of people, it presented a lot of opportunities for both the players experience and the modders experience but sadly Bohemia just doesn't care about the same opportunities as they used too instead ARMA 3 has been nothing but a giant cash grab and the modding community has been slowly separated and left in shambles.

Even after the events of Wasteland I still wanted to believe in the ARMA community and share my ideas and work with other people free of charge so that others can host their own servers and allow players a much bigger variety of servers to play on with an ever changing experience and it was going great as people were sharing their ideas and modifications, providing bug fixes and all-around being helpful to other people, since August of last year that has slowly degraded and then comes communities like Xenosgaming and Arma 3 life taking what I've made and not even having the decency to ask for my permission until after the fact the damage was already done.

The A3L situation really did set me off more then usual but now Bohemia Interactive (cash grab-active) is now setting up a way for servers to do the SAME EXACT THING A3L did but in a more what they say "legitimate" way which is total bullshit, and you know what? this is the final nail in the coffin for me. For them to even remotely consider this as a better solution makes me want to go slap the living crap out of them. I mean for fucks sake who in their right mind thinks this will be a better solution?!?! I should of seen this coming, small time development studio gets introduced to a small portion of the big bucks and then loses their way, PERFECT FUCKING STORY.

This is NOT a better solution to the current problems and if they can't see that then they're just as ignorant as any other publisher / studio. This is the single worst idea they have ever came up with. This will NOT help the modding community its self nor the game, in fact it will be the death of it. This will only separate the modding community more and hurt the over-all player experience by having "pay-to-access" servers, I mean seriously who thought of that fucking idea? People have already paid anywhere from $30-60 for the game and then to pay some other person to access their server for something potentially ripped from 20 different people is completely stupid. Some people will probably say:

"Oh Tonic you're blowing this way out of proportion and they have ways setup to stop abuse like taking legal action"

Oh yeah they do huh? Yeah look how well these "legal" actions they speak of work out for A3L? A3L was and still is USING DAYZ ASSETS, assets which are strictly forbidden from being used outside of ARMA 2 and they have STILL not acted on that, their own IP rights being VIOLATED, please.. GET REAL.

This apparent "talks" with server owners blabbing on about high expenses is also full of shit as well. I've ran servers as both a hobbyist and professional for NINE YEARS and running a game server IS NOT THAT EXPENSIVE. The only way costs could be remotely expensive is if you are in certain countries like Australia, New Zealand and Thailand as they are limited mostly by bandwidth to the outside world. If you are running a server in North America, Europe, United Kingdom or China and you can't financially support your server off of REAL donations then you should not be running a server PERIOD!

Anyways... I'm done ranting, I just wanted to fully express how I feel and really do apologize but I am beyond livid at this point. I have done nothing but provide free enjoyable content for the ARMA series and even sold a crap load of copies of ARMA 3 and not once did I ask for something in return and yet I am always ripped off in some way or another. I'm going to take this time to cool down for a bit and will decide whether or not I will put the website back online and just walk away and let someone like Yuka run it, if I don't decide to put the website back online everything I have ever published will be removed from places like the BI forums, Armaholic and github.[/b]


PS: Don't mind my monetization of the website with ads, that's just here to support the server so you don't have to pay and can continue to see this lovely rant.

Okay, I'm done messing with the redditors for the night. I do apologize but I was really in a pissed off mood and some fine entertainment of getting people riled up always cheers me up.

Anyways, lets address the elephant in the room and if you continue to focus on me and my actions then well continue to stay blind and ignorant as you are not worth the bandwidth. So server monetization... They are pitching it as a solution for the current problems, a sort of "protection" being in-placed between the good ones and the bad ones. Now what do I have the biggest problem with? Servers are allowed to be pay-to-access i.e you have to pay some random fucking dude on the internet who got a seal of approval by a half-wit company money to be able to play on that server after the fact you just paid money for the game its self. Does no one see how that is going to drive a giant wall between the community and player base?

Not to mention lets say you want to have a ghillie suit, that server can set it up to where you HAVE to pay whatever fee it is to have a ghillie suit and this is apparently acceptable as it is a cosmetic item, at least what I read who knows they probably fucking re-worded it again to protect their ass. Anyways does no one see the BIG fucking problem with this? And they say that if you use 3rd party content you have to have the content authors permission to monetize your server.. How in the fuck are they going to keep track of that? There are HUNDREDS TO THOUSANDS of addons for ARMA 3 not to mention how are they going to regulate it as in oh I offered no third party content when I signed up but now I do HUEHUEHUEHUE. We know Bohemia is not going to use resources to regulate that on a timely basis, I mean fuck if it takes them more then 15 minutes they give up and throw it on the back burner.

Now they throw out that word... that word I can't stand to see them say.. "legal action".. When they say legal action I swear I want to smash my face in with a frying pan because every person on this damn game knows that is a empty meaningless word from them. They HAVE legal right to pursue A3L but never did so why in the fuck would they start now? Anything they say on the internet is nothing more then empty meaningless words to me and a lot of other people. They say... They SAY that 3rd party work being used will not be "approved" without our approval and blah blah blah blah blah if so and so continues to monetize without being approved we'll pursue blah blah blah. Tell you what, you want to give me personal assurance that Bohemia will live up to its word? I want a notarized letter stating that they will, and I want Marek Spanel himself to sign it, until then nothing but words.

Until then I am going to lay back in my chair and continue to delete my work and throw a fit because I am a spoiled privileged adolescent cry baby who doesn't get his way.

Nothing more then a plot for micro-transactions in the future.
