Clouds part ways as the dark and gloomy woods expand out into a lone dirt road... and slowly... we see a pair of lights flash down it. Growing until eventually we see a large and spacious looking van drive by. Kicking up dirt where it goes. Laurie, you are driving this van down this dark road for one simple reason. Because somewhere down there... is adventure... or the fact you lost the map and now have no clue where you are.

01[12:10] <@narp> Stephanie and Maria are in the back of the van. Doing as they always do.

06[12:11] * Laurie_Lafeyette checks the rearview mirror.  Just what is it that they're doing back there anyhow...?

[12:11] <Maria_Thor> In the case of Maria - that means occasionally freaking out at Laurie's driving in between going over her equipment... All of it... Many many times...

[12:13] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "Okay, girls, I think I'm going to pull over at the next gas station and try and get directions.  And a snack."

[12:14] <Maria_Thor> "Sounds good to me."

06[12:14] * Maria_Thor checks her watch. "... Have we been driving for eight hours?"

[12:16] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "What, no, no, that's ridiculous.  We've still nearly a half a tank of gas and it's been forever since we filled up." Of course, the gauge could be broken on this old van.

06[12:24] * Maria_Thor pauses. "... How far until a gas station, anyways? We should probably get a new map. I... Guess I should've realized that learning the area would be hard..."

[12:25] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "Can't be that far, because it's been ages since we've seen one."

[12:26] <Maria_Thor> "... Please tell me we didn't miss a pile of Last Chance For Gas signs...

[12:27] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "What does that even mean?  As if there would just stop being any more gas stations forever.  So dumb!  It's just a marketing gimmick to make you top off at their station."

[12:27] <Maria_Thor> "... Uh, except for truth in advertising regulations? It usually means last chance for a few hundred miles of highway..."

[12:29] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "In any case, we're probably not that far out of town and we have plenty of gas and we're on an adventure and it's going to be magical and if you are being a total buzzkill and it's so late that NPR has switched to that dumb jazz music and oh god so bored...!"

01[12:51] <@narp> The van comes to a screeching HALT as it's hood flies open and smoke pours out. The dim moon light shines down beyond the trees and now you can make the vague outline of what appears to be an old, abandoned looking house. Just beyond the darkness you can hear footsteps and whistling coming up the road.

[12:51] <Maria_Thor> "... I thought you'd grabbed it!"

01[12:52] <@narp> This looks like the beggining of a GREAT MYSTERY.

[12:52] <Maria_Thor> Namely: How the hell are we going to get home?!

01[12:53] <@narp> The moon continues to cast its glow upon the house that's just within visible distance. It looks... old... and oddly designed. Like it came from a bygone era almost. The walls are smooth but run-down and the roof looks like it's been made with wierd circular parts floating up over it.

06[12:53] * Laurie_Lafeyette takes the keys out of the ignition and fumbles a flashlight out of the glove compartment, "I really don't think pouring oil on it would help things." She unbuckles and gets out to take a look.

[12:54] <Stephanie_Carver> "I'm not the mechanic, remember?"  *she laughs, climbing out of the van*  "That smoke doesn't look good..."

01[12:54] <@narp> You step out and it's now that the footsteps and whistling become even more audible.

01[12:55] <@narp> Maria. It looks like the engine's overheated. And a few other things are wrong. Darn. This is-oh there's no light anymore

06[12:55] * Stephanie_Carver looks around while the other girls check the engine, "What a weird old house. I can't tell if there's any lights on up there. Do you think anybody's home?"

[12:55] <Stephanie_Carver> "Like a friendly retired van-mechanic?"

01[12:55] <@narp> Laurie. You whirl the flashlight and you see an old man walking down the road toward you. He wears blue overalls and a white fishing hat.

01[12:56] <@narp> "GAH!" he shouts as you shine the light in his eyes.

01[12:56] <@narp> "What was that you holligans!?"

06[12:56] * Laurie_Lafeyette 's shakey hand keep the light focused on him, "What was what?"

01[12:56] <@narp> "Gah... oh!" he coves up his eyes with his hand.

01[12:57] <@narp> "Well who're you three?" the old man asks.

[12:57] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "Who are you?!"

06[12:57] * Maria_Thor pause. Even her social ineptness can see that's not the best handling of this...

[12:57] <Stephanie_Carver> "Geez Laurie, it's just a some guy."

01[12:58] <@narp> "Me? My name is old man Jenkins. I fish down by the riverside occasionally. Looks like you're having car problems if I'm not mistaken."

[12:58] <Stephanie_Carver> "Yeah, just a little bit."

06[12:59] * Laurie_Lafeyette racks her brain for fireside stories involving fishermen, turns up blank, "Oh.  Yes.  Yes we are."

[12:59] <Maria_Thor> "...Quite." (What're the results on the Engineering check to figure out exactly what's up?)

01[12:59] <@narp> "Well. I dunno many mechanics in the area. But I do know that this here leads to a Gas station just a few miles up."

01[12:59] <@narp> Maria. The results you got were... not looking all that great. Even if you started work now. You'd be up all night fixing the thing.

01[13:00] <@narp> "You might get a toe there... but if I might warn ya'll."

06[13:00] * Stephanie_Carver wrinkles her brow, not liking the thought of walking for a few miles in the dark in the middle of nowhere.

01[13:00] <@narp> "Don't go into that house, ya hear me?"

06[13:01] * Laurie_Lafeyette eyebrows perk up, "That house over there?" She waves the light towards it.

01[13:01] <@narp> "Yea that one."

06[13:01] * Maria_Thor looks at the house. "... Yeah we need to get this to a station if I'm going to fix it in any sane length of time... Otherwise, we're going to be here all night."

[13:01] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "Why can't we go into that house, just wondering?"

01[13:02] <@narp> "It was built by a mad scientist. Named Professor Malific. He was known for doing wierd experiments. Most famous was apparently the ability to put people into computers or something."

01[13:02] <@narp> "I dunno much about that."

[13:02] <Stephanie_Carver> "Well I don't think we're going to get far pushing the van..."

[13:02] <Maria_Thor> "... Eh? Weird..."

06[13:02] * Stephanie_Carver checks her phone to see if she has a signal.

06[13:02] * Maria_Thor pauses. "If you popped it in neutral... But that's if the clutch hasn't locked up."

01[13:02] <@narp> Sorry Steph. Looks like you're stranded.

06[13:02] * Maria_Thor quickly goes to try that. "Even then..."

01[13:03] <@narp> "But either way. I wouldn't go into that house if I were you... they say straaange things happen in there."

01[13:03] <@narp> "Strange and terrible things..."

[13:03] <Stephanie_Carver> "We'll have to find a land line somewhere to call for a tow."

06[13:03] * Laurie_Lafeyette giggles, "That's just silly.  We have to get our van fixed, not look inside some fraud's hideout."

[13:04] <Maria_Thor> "Which leaves... The house, or a good long walk."

06[13:04] * Stephanie_Carver looks over at Jenkins and asks, "Hey did that crazy scientist guy have a phone?"

01[13:04] <@narp> "Heh heh heh..." he smiles "well. Probably."

01[13:04] <@narp> "But are you sure you wanna go in there?"

06[13:05] * Laurie_Lafeyette crosses her fingers behind her back, "We're not going to break and enter some abandoned house, honest."

01[13:05] <@narp> "Well. Alright then," he walks past all of you and keeps going up the road.

01[13:05] <@narp> Slowly he disappears into the night.

06[13:06] * Laurie_Lafeyette turns to the others, "Right, let's see what's inside!"

[13:06] <Maria_Thor> "... Are you sure that's a good idea? I mean..."

06[13:06] * Stephanie_Carver nods, "Seems like the best option."

01[13:07] <@narp> Alright.

06[13:07] * Laurie_Lafeyette waits till Jenkins is out of sight, then heads up to the front door, knocking away at it, "Hello?  Anybody hoooome?"

[13:07] <Stephanie_Carver> "Would you rather roll the van five miles up the road through the dark forest?"

01[13:07] <@narp> Laurie. You knock on the door and there's no answer. But it looks like the door is unlocked.

06[13:08] * Maria_Thor sighs, grabs her backpack and follows them.

[13:08] <Stephanie_Carver> "Weird, you'd think the realtor would keep the place locked up..."

06[13:08] * Laurie_Lafeyette tries the handle, then peeks inside, "Hello...?  We're coming in.  Don't mind us~"

06[13:08] * Laurie_Lafeyette opens the door wide and heads inside, taking a look at the place with her flashlight slowly shining along the walls.

[13:09] <Maria_Thor> "L-Laurie..."

01[13:09] <@narp> As you open the door. The place seems to pan out into a hallway, with a staircase that leads to a second floor to the right.

06[13:09] * Stephanie_Carver follows Laurie inside

01[13:09] <@narp> Various strange knick-nacks lay around. Each of them broken down and covered in dust.

06[13:10] * Laurie_Lafeyette examines the closest knick, and then a nack.

01[13:10] <@narp> They look like devices that... well you just can't make sense of!

01[13:10] <@narp> It's like out of some wierd sci-fi movie!

06[13:10] * Maria_Thor pauses... Then follows.

06[13:10] * Maria_Thor might have a better clue on what these do?

06[13:10] * Stephanie_Carver feel around on the wall near the door, hoping for a lightswitch, "It's worth a shot..."

01[13:11] <@narp> Sorry Maria. It'd take SCIENCE to know what those are.

01[13:12] <@narp> And all of the lights miraculously turn on! But not by much. It's still pretty dim but you won't need a flashlight, at least.

06[13:12] * Laurie_Lafeyette can't figure out heads or tails on any of this, so she tries to press any buttons or switches any device might have.

[13:12] <Maria_Thor> "D-don't!"

01[13:12] <@narp> A spark of electricity pans out... and you can hear a "WEEEOOOOWWWOOO" sound.

01[13:12] <@narp> But that's... honestly about it.

[13:12] <Stephanie_Carver> "Nice!  This place must have it's own generator built in... probably in the basement?  Unless it's solar or something.  But that means there's a chance the phones will still..."  

06[13:13] * Stephanie_Carver glares at the thing in Laurie's hands, "Can you turn that back off?"

[13:13] <Laurie_Lafeyette> (pans out from one of the devices?)

01[13:13] <@narp> (From the device itself)

06[13:13] * Laurie_Lafeyette tries to turn it off, fumbling at it till it does!

01[13:13] <@narp> It turns off.

01[13:14] <@narp> And the WEEEWOOOO stops.

[13:14] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "This things pretty neat, think I'll keep it as a souvenir.  Now...let's go find the basement!  Everything cool is gonna be in the basement."

06[13:14] * Laurie_Lafeyette wanders off~

[13:15] <Maria_Thor> "... I've seen where these stories go... We'd best stay together at least..."

06[13:20] * Laurie_Lafeyette 's stomach grumbles as she closes the fridge, then turns her eyes towards that thing...that out of place thing...that thing that's just bugging her.

06[13:26] * Maria_Thor tries to find the source of the strobing - quickly!

06[13:26] * Laurie_Lafeyette pockets the coin, then looks around, "Maria?  Hey, who was it that said we need to stick together in the first place...?"

<narp> "Your body is currenly being processed. It does not matter now. You are an inorganic creation now. An obedient program. Do you comply?"

<Maria_Thor> (Which in turn would have the effect of revealing the temporary aspect placed on her.)

<Maria_Thor> "A... What do you mean by 'processed'?" She's losing her will fast - even her curiousity doesn't keep her up that long.

[13:32] <Stephanie_Carver> "Wow, cool." *looks up the staircase to see if there are lights on up above, too*

[13:33] <Stephanie_Carver> "Ah damn."  *She glances toward the kitchen, thinking about going to get Laurie, but then remembers the couch button*

[13:33] <Stephanie_Carver> "I'm sure my eyes will adjust..." *She heads up the staircase*

01[13:35] <@narp> A bunch of things covered in white sheets.

01[13:35] <@narp> Some look big, others look small... hrm... where to begin?

[13:36] <Stephanie_Carver> "It's too dark to see any cords leading under the sheets... but phones are usually small.  Let's look under this one."

06[13:36] * Stephanie_Carver lifts a sheet off one of the smaller objects

01[13:36] <@narp> Of two scientists.

01[13:37] <@narp> Both are in lab-coats, both are shaking each others hands.

[13:37] <Stephanie_Carver> "One of them must be that Professor Malific guy."

06[13:38] * Stephanie_Carver puts the photo down and starts searching through the other items in the attic.

01[13:38] <@narp> Eventually. You find what you think is a phone.

06[13:39] * Stephanie_Carver calls down the stairs, "Hey, I think I found the phone!"

06[13:39] * Stephanie_Carver picks it up and sees if there's still a dial tone.

01[13:39] <@narp> Although... you still don't know where Maria went.

06[13:40] * Laurie_Lafeyette calls back, "Cool!  Hey, is Maria there with you?  I think I lost her!"

01[13:40] <@narp> Stephanie. All you hear is a "BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP".

01[13:40] <@narp> Darn.

06[13:41] * Stephanie_Carver sighs, "Great."

06[13:41] * Stephanie_Carver heads back down the stairs, checking to see if Maria came into the living room, "She's not in the attic... let me get back to you."

[13:42] <Laurie_Lafeyette> "Kay!" She starts looking around the kitchen for Maria.  Maybe she's hiding...?

01[13:42] <@narp> And start looking around... where is she?

[13:43] <Stephanie_Carver> "This place doesn't seem that big. She can't have gone too far."
