  1. The next class John had with Erin was the last period of the day. She scrunched her face into a frown at him as he sat down next to her. “You just left me asleep in there earlier?” John grinned, knowing she wouldn’t be caught dead sleeping in class normally. “Yeah. What do cats dream about, by the way? Chasing yarn and counting mice?”
  2.
  3. “Shut up,” she snapped at him. “It didn’t even work. It just made me sleep, that’s all. It’s not like I actually thought I was a cat or anything.” Erin looked down at her desk. “I’m still mad you didn’t wake me up. What if I had passed out or something?”
  4.
  5. John shrugged. “Well, you were watching a video that I guessed was supposed to be doing that to you anyways. You sound grumpy, did they not put mily out for you this morning?”
  6.
  7. “John, I-” She was cut off by the shrill bell. Their teacher sighed and stood up from his desk, holding a stack of papers. “Alright, who wants to pass out these old homeworks?” He acted lazy, but John figured he just didn’t know their names. Some nerdy kid in the front of the room raised his hand, so he got to do the honors. It was quickly made obvious that he was overconfident in his own memory, and he had to sift the papers around and hand back the ones he could match.
  8.
  9. By the time he had gone back to their teacher to admit defeat, only about half the class had their homework back. Neither John nor Erin had theirs, and John had an idea to test out how sincere Erin’s hypnotic trance had been. He casually spun his pen around for a moment, tapping it against his desk a bit, then clicked it three times fast.
  10.
  11. Erin’s head perked up for a moment at the sound, but her arm quickly slid off her desk as she started to stare ahead. Her eyes blinked slowly and dramatically, but the rest of her was still. John tried to play it off like he didn’t notice, watching only out of the corner of his eye.
  12.
  13. “Just ask ‘em,” the teacher said, shooing the kid away from his desk. He sighed and, looking quite dejected, began to walk around, nervously asking other students their names and clumsily shuffling through the papers. When he got to Erin, she was staring blankly at her desk with half-lidded eyes.
  14.
  15. “Uh, w-what’s your name?” He looked like he was almost trembling with awkwardness. She looked like she woke up for a second, but when she looked at him she just made a quiet meow. “Um…” He bit his lip and furrowed his brow, apparently not sure how to respond.
  16.
  17. “That’s Erin,” John said. “She lost a bet, sorry about that.” The other kid raised an eyebrow, but didn’t ask anything more about it. He slid her paper onto her desk, figured out who John was, got rid of his, and moved on. Erin had gone back to staring at her desk, apparently uninterested in her paper.
  18.
  19. At this point, John was pretty convinced she was legitimately out. Erin wouldn’t be so mean as to mess with the clearly flustered nerdy guy. He leaned in close, and tried to be quick in whispering to her. “When I click my pen again, you’ll wake up, but you won’t be able to remember your name until you hear the bell for the end of the class. Also, whenever you wake up from being a cat, you’re going to totally forget everything that happened while you were one. Okay?” She just stared on, but took a bit deeper of a breath as he finished talking to her.
  20.
  21. Thinking it was the best he’d get, John pretended to be looking at his own paper as he clicked his pen. He started to scribble something on the page as Erin shook her head and sat up. She leaned over to him. “I think I just zoned out. Did I miss anything?”
  22.
  23. “Nah, he hasn’t even got out of his desk yet.” Right as he said that, though, their teacher finally stood up. “Alright, today you’re just gonna be working on this review sheet, I guess. The test is on Tuesday, don’t forget.” He walked from row to row, passing out papers, then went to sit back down and continue looking at whatever he looked at all day.
  24.
  25. The rest of the period went on normally. They worked on filling out the sheet, with Erin pulling most of their weight. When the period was almost over, they had finished it and were ready to turn it in. John signed his and watched Erin, trying to contain his smirk. She lifted her pen, frowned, started to write something, then stopped again. “I, uh, think we actually did something wrong on one. Let me think for a minute.” She flipped to another page and stared at the paper with her chin in her hand.
  26.
  27. “N-nope,” she said, clearly confused. “Looks good…” John stood up. “Great, want me to take yours up?” Erin put her hand on her paper. “Nah, I’ll get it in a minute. Just uh… going to get a picture of it first.”
  28.
  29. “Alright, no problem.” He started to stand up out of his desk. “Don’t forget your name,” he added as he walked away. “Y-yeah,” she said quietly behind him. As soon as he got back to his desk, she stood up, holding her paper so that the front faced away from him and went to put it in the stack.
  30.
  31. The teacher dismissed them a few seconds before the bell rang. It did when they were out in the hall, and Erin’s eyes went wide. “Crap!” She looked back, but the current of students flooding the hallways was too strong to go back. “I… I remembered my- what we did wrong on that.”
  32.
  33. John shrugged. “He probably won’t even grade those, don’t worry about it. Let’s not miss the bus.” Erin sighed, but walked on.
  34.
  35. ***
  36.
  37. They sat together in the back of the bus like usual. They weren’t really dating or anything, though John sometimes wished they were. Most of the people who didn’t know them probably thought they were dirtying the seats back there, but they had just always been good friends. He didn’t know why he liked this hypnosis stuff so much, really, and he felt bad for the things he thought of using it for, especially with her.
  38.
  39. It didn’t stop him from casually taking out his pen and notebook and pretending to write something as soon as the bus started to speed up and bump over the road. The noise of the engine would give them privacy, he figured, especially since hardly any of the seats back there were filled today.
  40.
  41. He clicked his pen, and the bus hit a bump. They both shook, and Erin’s head came to rest against his shoulder. She blinked and kept her eyes closed for a second before she sleepily opened them again, looking ahead at the seat in front of them. John couldn’t help but stare at her complete lack of expression. Her mouth opened a little, and there wasn’t a single wrinkle of worry on her face. He reached up and scratched her on top of her head again since she seemed to enjoy that last time in class.
  42.
  43. Erin closed her eyes and smiled just a little as she breathed in deep. Her cheek nuzzled his shoulder a little bit and she lazily grabbed onto his thigh, pulling it against hers. She looked so much happier and more relaxed than John was used to seeing her. Even if he didn’t worry enough about school, he knew she definitely cared way too much for her own good. He could swear her throat was trying to purr. Nothing really came out, but it made him feel a bit better about what he was doing.
  44.
  45. Moreover, what he was about to do. Videos of raunchy stage hypnotists had given him way too many ideas to pass up seeing something like it for himself. Doing it to Erin felt weird, but… He kept scratching her head through her hair. “Erin, this feels good, doesn’t it?” Her smile widened, and she rubbed her cheek against him again. He looked away to collect himself a bit and to make sure that nobody had moved back. “R-right. Really good. Well, from now on, whenever I scratch your head like this, it’s going to feel even better. Because it’s me, and we’re friends. That makes sense, right?” Her fingers squeezed his leg and she sighed.
  46.
  47. “Yeah, lots better.” He bit his lip, trying to think of how to phrase what he wanted her to feel. “And good kitties want to... mate with the ones that make them feel really good, so it’s only natural that it turns you on so much. Right?” This time, it looked like it took her a second to process what was happening. At first she just looked confused, but a few scratches later she was practically starting to pant, twisting her torso now so that her chest pressed against his arm. Her eyes stayed closed, and she started to rub her thighs together. ‘Definitely working,’ John thought.
  48.
  49. Erin kept her hands grabbing his pants the whole ride home, strangely, apparently not willing to let go to get herself off. John’s arm was getting tired, but he didn’t care enough to stop. She was making the cutest little mewling sound and he couldn’t get enough of it. He hadn’t really thought much about Erin this way before, and he didn’t know if he’d be able to stop himself from taking it further if she was going to get this into things. She bit her bottom lip for a second and let her teeth slide off as she exhaled.
  50.
  51. Some familiar trees flashed in the window, and John realized they were almost to their neighborhood. ‘Can’t have her wake up like this,’ he thought. With some effort, he managed to stop rubbing her head. “Erin, you’re gonna wake up next time the bus stops, okay? You won’t remember this, you’ll think you just fell asleep and had a really great dream.”
  52.
  53. He had barely finished when the bus lurched to a halt. Her eyes opened wide, and she practically jumped off the seat when she realized she had been “sleeping” on him. “Oh my god was I just…”
  54.
  55. John rubbed the back of his neck, stretching his tired shoulder a bit. “Yeah, you fell asleep really early in the ride, so I just let you stay there. It wasn’t that long or anything.” Erin’s eyes darted down for an instant to her thighs and then back up, looking away from him and blushing. “W-well, just wake me up when you see me asleep, okay? Jeeze, that’s the second time today.”
  56.
  57. John laughed nervously. “Okay, but the first one was your fault. Still meeting tomorrow to study?” They began to stand up, Erin a bit more shakily than John, and they walked down the aisle and off the bus. “Yeah, I guess. You better do your work though, you owe me for earlier.” John had thought of more ways to pay her back than she realized, he figured. Just watching her enjoy that was so satisfying. “Haha, sure thing, catwoman. See you then!” They parted ways, Erin with a huff and an awkwardly quick pace in her step.
