  1. This article is so almost right (and does make some good points) I want to believe it, but I think it is actually quite wrong?
  2.
  3. "His shitty life just got shittier, because some media yuppies don’t like swear words." is the ending sentence. His life is not shittier because people don't like swear words, its because people don't like abusive behavior/language when its usually targeted at other people.
  4.
  5. But that isn't even really it either. If their solace is playing games, then they can still do that. The games are still being made, people are still playing them, regardless of what the blog posts say. If their solace is in fact being abusive/mean to others while playing games then yes, they do in fact have a problem and their outlet has been taken away.
  6.
  7. I think the author is conflating reason and excuse here. Yes nerd-dom was an insular culture and an evolution of that may have been being shitty to eachother. And yes said friend in flyover state with sick parents might have gaming as his only outlet and this puts him in a bad mood which makes him mean to others. Those are reasons. They are not excuses. If I am grumpy because I did not get any sleep the night before, I don't feel justified/okay in taking my grumpy-ness out on others, Being tired is a reason I am grumpy, not an excuse for it.
