  8. Slaprock
  9.
  10. Slaprock is a genre of rock music that began in 2011. Although at it's core it was influenced by easy listening, jazz rock, and R&B, it was characterized by heavily utilizing a sample comedy "sproing" sound effect.
  11.
  12. Although dozens of bands were started once the genre was established, the band that influenced the style the most seems to be Cale Donk. Cale Donk had a sound very similar to bands like Blood Sweat and Tears, however they diverged from that and made what is now considered the first "protoslap" album, Wish Upon a Dish, in 2011. The album was famous for starting slaprock, which became very known and praised in the internet soon afterwards.
  13.
  14. After the initial success of Wish Upon a Dish, in early 2012, Cale Donk released their second Slaprock album, Slaughtered in Combat. This new album followed the same formula as WUoD, slow crooned vocals over jazzy tribal-influenced R&B tracks and the constant "sproinging", however Slaughtered in Combat welcomed the addition of hoops and hollers from the band members played in between every sproing. Traditionally in this subgenre of Slaprock that was later dubbed as "Yelpslap", all the hollers are played at full volume, panned to only play in one ear (on stereo releases).
  15.
  16. Slaprock's popularity was suddenly diminished after Internet youtube sensation Anthony Fantano denounced the genre as a whole, causing a mass urge for disassociation with the genre amongst fans.(https://twitter.com/theneedledrop/status/503902500563714048)
  17.
  18. Despite slaprock's rapid decline in popularity after Cale Donk's disbandment, a recent resurgence in the genre occurred upon the breakout harshslap release of Japanese supergroup 私が跳ね上がるあなたのお母さん (pronounced Spring-ing-ing-ing-ing)'s 2011 release "Yellow Trash Slap". Yellow Trash Slap combined elements of harsh noise, lowercase, and electroacoustic improvisation with traditional slaprock style.
  19. The release of Yellow Trash Slap marked the reemergence of Slaprock in what is now known at Slaprock Revival, which although heavily influenced by Slaprock can incorporate elements of emo, noise, and pop. A relatively new subgenre of Slaprock is Oceanslap, which usually consists of slowed Slaprock creating waves of reverb and flangers. Although some are convinced Oceanslap is a forced meme, many are sure that big things are to come of it.
  20.
  21. Slaprock has also experienced a rebirth within popular hip hop music. The fusion genre, labeled slaprap by surviving member and genious beind the 'sproing' effect of Slipping Cryptids JJ Tare has expressed approval of the revival.
  22. Popular slaprap group A$LAP Mob recently added the slaprock influence into electronic music by creating what they call 'trapslap' music. Featured prominently on their recent instrumental album, it replaces the double or triple time snares of trap hih with springs. This album, simply titled Instrumental, has been acclaimed by the internet.
