  1. /elg/ guide to new players
  2.
  3. DON'T BE A LAZY FAGGOT AND JUST READ IT, YOU'LL SAVE A TON OF FRUSTRATION FROM TRYING TO FIGURE THINGS OUT.
  4.
  5. PvE
  6.
  7. - You can choose to level by either grinding fields or dungeons. The difference between these options is grinding dungeons and completing quests will gives you experience and ED at a faster rate than fields, but will deplete your stamina faster as well. Fields will give you experience at a lower rate, but won't drain your stamina as fast.
  8.
  9. - If you decide to grind by fields, remember that killing mobs in a field outside of your level area will decrease experience by 50%. Always make sure you're grinding in a field suitable for your level.
  10.
  11. - After killing a certain amount of mobs in your field, a field boss may appear. Kill the boss for a chance to receive a boss cube (you may receive 2 if you dish out a ton of damage) and a boss soul. Field boss cubes contain helpful goodies such as shards, amulets, and consumables. Boss souls can be traded in at Aranka/Ariel for goods such as exp medals, potions, and more.
  12.
  13. - Do NOT engage the field boss alone. Only engage with a party as they're quite tough and can at times kill you in a few shots
  14.
  15. - Make sure to dungeon/grind fields in a party with at least 3 players as you'll gain bonus experience
  16.
  17. - The flags seen on the dungeon map are called hero's flags. Complete a dungeon with a flag on it to receive a hero coin which can be traded in for goods at Aranka/Ariel.
  18.
  19. - Completing every dungeon in an area (Sander and Feita aside) will unlock a secret dungeon. These are important once you've reached the level cap, so don't forget to unlock them.
  20.
  21. - You'll often see quests with the "REPEAT" tag on the board. You may complete these quests for the extra rewards they bring, but are not necessary.
  22.
  23. - Always do event quests as they usually hand out decent goods. Some events require you to be logged in for a certain period of time. A small clock icon on the right side of the screen will tell you how much time left you have remaining.
  24.
  25. GEAR
  26.
  27. - Don't worry too much about gear if you're still relatively new as you'll be disposing your current gear for new gear every time you level up 10 levels.
  28.
  29. - Sometimes you can find cheap gear for your character by searching on the board. Simply select your character in the drop down menu on the left side of the board shop, and what piece you're looking for in the equipment option. The most important piece of your equipment is your weapon, so always hold it to a priority over the rest. Try to buy the best weapon for your current level at no more than 1m.
  30.
  31. GEAR ENHANCING
  32.
  33. - Skip this if you already know how enhancing works. Throughout dungeons, you'll pick up armor or weapon stones known as enhance stones. You can use these stones to upgrade your gear at a local blacksmith for better stats and socket rolls (see socket guide for explanation), but these won't really matter until you're level 70.
  34.
  35. - Enhance stones vary by level and only work for it's corresponding level. For example; level 1 enhance weapon/armor stones will only work for equipment in the 1-19 range, level 2 stones will work for equipment in the level 20-29 range, etc.
  36.
  37. - You can enhance up to +7, beyond that will cost you extra cash. Don't worry about going over +7 until you're level 70.
  38.
  39. - In case you somehow haven't figured it out by now, the higher your weapon + the higher the damage. The higher your armor +, the higher your defensive stats.
  40.
  41. SOCKETING
  42.
  43. - You'll see stones in your special menu called magic stones or advanced stones. You can use these stones to give your armor/weapon extra stats such as attack speed, critical chance, etc. Basically all the stats in your character menu stats (press u). Remember that you may not always get the roll you desire since it's pure RNG, but it won't matter that much anyway since like stated earlier, you'll be disposing your old gear for new gear when you're leveling. Try to aim for attack speed socket rolls as that's the only early stat that really matters early on.
  44.
  45. GEAR ENCHANTING
  46.
  47. - You can use shards to give your weapon an attribute at your local alchemist. The higher your attribute level, the stronger the effect. There's currently 3 levels of attributes. Don't worry about attributing to level 3 until you're level 70, just do a level 1 attribute on your weapon. Skip armor enchanting.
  48.
  49. list of attributes
  50.
  51. fire - inflicts a burn on your opponent which slowly burns off HP. Can be stacked up to 3 times
  52.
  53. nature - inflicts a poison in your opponent which slowly deals minimal damage and slows down their attack speed. can be stacked up to 3 times
  54.
  55. light - a chance to turn your opponent into stone for a few seconds. does not stack
  56.
  57. wind - gives you a chance to bypass your opponents defense and deal true damage. does not stack
  58.
  59. water - inflicts an armor reduce freeze which slows down movement and reduces their defense. can be stacked up to 3 times
  60.
  61. dark - a chance to steal hp and mp off your opponent
  62.
  63. mystery - gives you a random attribute. can also be identified by using a mystery shard solver bought at your local alchemist which will randomly give you any of the above mentioned attribute shards
  64.
  65. If you got all that, work your way towards hitting the level cap.
  66.
  67.
  68.
  69. P
  70.
  71. ONLY RECOMMENDED AT LOWER LEVELS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. DON'T WORRY ABOUT PVPING UNTIL YOU'RE AT LEAST LEVEL 70 WITH DECENT GEAR AND A DECENT KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR CLASS.
  72.
  73. - If you insist on PvPing despite the previous point, go look up YouTube videos of the class you're looking to PvP with and STUDY. There's no better way to learn than watching the pros do it.
  74.
  75. - Yes, arena is p2w, but only at the very high ranks.
  76.
  77. - Go read the guide to arena for further information
  78.
  79.
  80. MISCELLANEOUS
  81.
  82. - the red beads on beside your characters face portrait are called awakening beads. Press ctrl to use these beads to send your character into an awakening mode. While being in awakening, your damage will increase until the awakening wears out. A single bead lasts for 30 seconds, so using 3 beads will give you a 60 second awakening. Characters such as Raven, Chung, and Ara will reach a special state if 3 beads are used, so pay attention!
  83.
  84. - You can buy mana pots from your local town alchemist or field rest area NPC. Craft-able consumables (hp, mp potions/food) can also be done at the alchemist.
