  1. First, distill 350 ml of grain alcohol till it is anhydrous. Place into a half liter flask with a 2-hole stopper and introduce one ounce of sodium hypochlorite and 1 teaspoon of sodium hydroxide into another half-liter flask. another two-hole stopper. then attach an aerator with a plastic tube. To the other hole, run a plastic tube to one of the two hole openings in the flask with grain alcohol. You can use a glass connector, or run the tube thru the stopper so that it goes to the bottom of the flask. There should be a straight run from the bleach and drain cleaner (creating chlorine gas) to the bottom of the alcohol flask. You want the chlorine to bubble thru the alcohol
  2.
  3. There should be one hole left in the alcohol flask. Thru that, run another plastic tub to the bottom of a third half liter flask, which you put into a cold (Iced) water bath.
  4.
  5. The chlorine will bubble thru the alcohol for a while. Let it run till it won't take any more.
  6.
  7. Put the flask with alcohol into a heated water bath until it boils. As the alcohol distils off, collect it from flask 3 and pour it back into flask 2.
  8.
  9. Pour out the chlorinated alcohol into a dish and let it cool. You will get a bunch of crystalline material
  10.
  11. Weigh the material, and pour approx. 3 times the amount of concentrated sulfuric acid into the dish. It will go back into solution. Heat in a water bath for about 5 mins till it goes completely back, and then stir gently for another 5 mins.
  12.
  13. Pour the solution back into a clean flask and heat to about 180 degrees F
  14.
  15. Chloral Hydrate will rise to the surface. Suck it off using a turkey baster. Put in a clean, weighed flask.
  16.
  17. Repeat the last steps of the same volume of sulfuric acid as the crystals. Take into solution, heat, stir, and remove again the final product.
