  1. 0. The shadows are a dangerous place. You survive by wits, allies and strength. There is nothing enforced OOC keeping you safe. However, in the bar no Edge is to be Burnt, and characters do not die without consent, they are dragged off and patched up at a street doc somewhere. The purpose of IC-Mods is to help people play to these rules.
  2.
  3. 1. Play your character. React as how your character would react, do actions that your character would do, and sometimes, you might have to do things IC that aren't fun OOC. Follow your personality, stats, and qualities to guide your RP.
  4.
  5. 1.1 Players should inform each other of information the other characters would be aware of IC, but the player may not be aware of OOC. These are things such as appearance, metatype, reputation, and equipment.
  6.
  7. 2. Allow people to play their characters. RP is no fun if you can't get a word in edgeways, or if someone shuts down everything you attempt. Give people the ability to take their actions and say their pieces.
  8.
  9. 3. Play at the speed of the slowest player when things get serious. Anyone can request an action freeze to let other people catch up. The scene halts to let the flow of play move normally, back and forth.
  10.
  11. 4. Respect the scene. Let people wander off into corners and talk without being overheard. Give yourself and others the credit of being shadow-runners. Remember the lore and things that society deems acceptable in neutral / friendly company.
  12.
  13. 4.1 Fights should occur between complicit players after a sensible buildup, and their roleplay moved to another channel to clear the air for other players (Rule 2). IC-Mods have the final say of if the fight occurs or not.
  14.
  15. 4.2 Dogs in a fight. A sub section of "Respect the scene" but it needs to be stated explicitly. When tension or violence occurs, everyone who is going to participate needs to be have been participating during the buildup and declare intent to participate. If a fight escalates more than three or so steps then non participating players are all allowed to reevaluate. If there's a fistfight that's mostly for show and someone pulls a knife or a gun, well, people might choose to intervene.
  16.
  17. 4.3 Sensible escalation. Nobody except for an established, and roleplayed psychopath goes from an argument to a murder flat. Please respect that generally things follow a rough line of (in ascending order):
  18. MINOR: Talking, Arguing, Social Manipulation / Hacking, Yelling, Finger Pointing, Prodding, Shoving, Punching, SERIOUS: Punching to really hurt, Unarmed Combat, Improvised Weapons, Melee Weapons, Melee Weapons to wound.
  19. DEADLY: Drawing Guns, Shooting to wound, Melee to kill, Shooting to kill, and finally Magic.
  20. Anywhere along here you can simply back down and surrender, and people should let you. Please be aware that pulling a gun isn't a casual threat, it's a "I'm going to kill you" and is treated appropriately.
  21.
  22. 5. Roleplay is for connecting with other characters, for learning about your character, for drama and personal plotlines. It's for fun. Don't feel pressured to join in. If you feel pressured to leave, then discuss it with the person OOC, or an IC-Mod. If you do not believe another character is being played appropriately, then raise it OOC or with an IC-Mod.
  23.
  24. 6. Remember the IC/OOC separation. Just because the bad feels can happen in character should not be carried over to out of character interactions.
  25.
  26. 7. Respect other players personal limits on certain topics. If asked to close a scene for personal reasons, please respect that.
  27.
  28. 8. Please use formatting and conventions so we're all on the same page. *Italics* for actions, "Quotes" for speech, <Angle Brackets> for matrix, [(lang) Brackets] for other languages. Speech is assumed to be normal conversational level, and public matrix messages are played over AR display and physical speakers / trideo projectors. Communication specifically marked as being DNI, whispered, private messages, etc should have their privacy respected.
