I'm ethnic Greeks. Born and raised here in Sweden. I was previously a member of the Golden Dawn (GG) during my time in Greece that lasted a number of years before the crisis. I worked for a major telecommunications company in Thessaloniki.

I can understand that the GGs facade around Europe and in other national circuits viewed with the same old national romantic elegance in terms of their rhetoric and radicalism. The image of the GG has turned into a romantic idyll, not only for Greeks but Europe's other people who are nationally minded.

The core issue, and the main ingredient that holds together the party and its members are not the resistance against the United States / Zionism as so many may seem to believe, but it is anti-Semitism and Turkish resistance against the Turks who had been the party's most important propaganda. Just as Svoboda now sees the Russians as the biggest threat to Ukraine, we see GG Turkey and the Turks as the biggest threat to the country and existence.

At an internal meeting a few years ago asked a party member asked: "When we start the war against the Turks then?" To which the answer is: "when the United States delivers bomb flights" which is followed by laughter and applause. I personally sat in on the meeting.
