  1. Justin R 4:05 am
  2. Any chance I could RP a talk with the God of Brothels? >_>
  3.
  4. CadenT20 4:05 am
  5. and it's NOT the pixie stork
  6.
  7. Adam Sokol 4:05 am
  8. Sure, Quentyn. We'll call it at the time everyone was talking to the gods. If you guys want to RP some god talk, I'll go with that.
  9.
  10. CadenT20 4:05 am
  11. nah I got what I wanted
  12.
  13. Adam Sokol 4:05 am
  14. Ha
  15.
  16. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:05 am
  17. Same, I'm cool
  18.
  19. Adam Sokol 4:06 am
  20. You know what I almost demanded from Val from Chorr?
  21.
  22. Justin R 4:06 am
  23. Cool, thanks
  24.
  25. Adam Sokol 4:06 am
  26. Actual worship and acceptance of Chorr as his new deity - but I decided against it.
  27. Quentyn: He's sitting there, not seeing you.
  28.
  29. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:06 am
  30. No sale. Nothing against him, he seems nice enough
  31. But Valerian doesn't worship gods unless they show him they've earned it
  32.
  33. CadenT20 4:07 am
  34. how about dat BRO-a
  35.
  36. Justin R 4:07 am
  37. "Uh... hey there," Quentyn says, surprisingly nervous.
  38.
  39. CadenT20 4:07 am
  40. fuck I miss omega
  41. uh
  42. CPU rather
  43.
  44. CadenT20 4:07 am
  45. it's late and I'm mixing up names again @_@
  46.
  47. Adam Sokol 4:07 am
  48. There's nothing a god could do to possibly satisfy Val.
  49. Quentyn: "Ah, hello, Quentyn! I was hoping you'd approach me. Come, sit." He summons an angel for you sit on.
  50.
  51. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:08 am
  52. They'd just have to actively look out for their people...and ideally, all people but baby steps here
  53.
  54. Justin R 4:08 am
  55. Haha
  56.
  57. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:08 am
  58. Not being senselessly dickish would also be nice
  59.
  60. Adam Sokol 4:08 am
  61. Kan: Yeah, see, that's literally all of the gods except maybe Lelth.
  62.
  63. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:08 am
  64. Yeah right.
  65.
  66. Justin R 4:08 am
  67. "...Thanks," Quentyn says, sitting down. "Glad Atha's not here right now..." he thinks to himself.
  68.
  69. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:08 am
  70. I'm not talking big picture.
  71. I'm talking about the little things.
  72. Someone prays for guidance and you give him your opinion or comfort, for instance.
  73.
  74. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:09 am
  75. Instead of saving the glorious visions for one dude every three hundred years
  76.
  77. Adam Sokol 4:10 am
  78. Quentyn: "Ah, yes, one of your girls. So, Quentyn, what can I do for you?"
  79. Kan: So individually helping every single follower whenever they ask for guidance?
  80.
  81. Justin R 4:10 am
  82. "I just wanted to stop by and thank you for the ring. And uh, figure out exactly what being the chosen champion means, I guess," Quentyn says.
  83.
  84. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:11 am
  85. Doesn't have to be all the time, but it should be as much time as they possibly can.
  86. I mean, hell
  87. Valerian is almost certainly busier than them with really big world-shaking stuff and he still has big periods of downtime
  88.
  89. Adam Sokol 4:11 am
  90. Quentyn: "It just means being the ultimate harem owner. If you know any other man with a greater harem than your own - other than mine - then you must surpass him. That shouldn't be too hard, right?"
  91.
  92. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:11 am
  93. Even if he had to take care of bureaucracy he'd still have some time, too
  94.
  95. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:11 am
  96. And he's mortal. He has to sleep, eat, and everything else.
  97. (which he probably will actually, at some point)
  98.
  99. Adam Sokol 4:12 am
  100. Kan: Let's see... applicable gods who frequently help out prayers are Oa, Adell, Shanao, and Korth
  101.
  102. Justin R 4:12 am
  103. "Harder than it looks... I seem to have the worst luck with women sometimes," Quentyn says with a sigh.
  104.
  105. CadenT20 has left the room. 4:13 am
  106. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:13 am
  107. Korth? Huh
  108.
  109. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:13 am
  110. I can see the others
  111. Invoking the muse, Oa being nice, Shanao being all about bureaucracy
  112. But Korth is kinda the odd man out
  113.
  114. Adam Sokol 4:14 am
  115. "I know. You have a rare curse of bad luck - so I fashioned that ring for you. In it is a tiny amount of the desire for a brothel from each of my followers, forged into a physical ring."
  116. Korth is just about anger. It's easy to get his attention.
  117. Funny thing is, I can't see Val liking Adell, Oa, or Shanao enough to worship any of them - especially the last.
  118.
  119. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:15 am
  120. Well yes, but you specifically said help out. An angry god would be unwilling to help, he'd be a dick, right?
  121. Unless I'm misunderstanding him from his portfolio
  122.
  123. Adam Sokol 4:15 am
  124. He helps with issues about anger - specifically, followers who want to be angrier or use their rage for things. Being angry all the time doesn't make you a dick by default.
  125.
  126. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:15 am
  127. Ah, alright
  128.
  129. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:16 am
  130. So he kinda gives the hard answers
  131. Kinda like how Val tells everybody something dickish even though he does lots of good?
  132.
  133. Adam Sokol 4:17 am
  134. Well, yes, but his hard answers are about how to remain angry and harness your anger and why anger is a good thing. I kind of doubt Val would like him a lot. Like, I imagine him being popular with barbarians.
  135.
  136. Justin R 4:17 am
  137. "The ring is pretty awesome, I have to say. There's this one girl, Atharathes, that I never had good luck with... until recently, I suppose," Quentyn says, partially thinking out loud.
  138.
  139. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:17 am
  140. /isbarbaran
  141. *Barbarian
  142. But yeah, I get that
  143.
  144. Adam Sokol 4:17 am
  145. Quentyn: "Yes, I've paid some attention to that. You've done excellently with her - even if you don't realize it. She'll be yours if you want her, I assure you."
  146.
  147. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:17 am
  148. But ironically, except for Adell, I see points of contact with all the gods you mentioned.
  149.
  150. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:18 am
  151. Valerian wants peace in the long term so he likes that about Oa even though he's very proactive, he agrees with the need for an organized society in the theory even though he doesn't really like society as it is in practice...
  152. The goddess of music is the outlier here because well...I don't know enough about her.
  153. Or him? Not sure, name is gender-blendery
  154.
  155. Justin R 4:19 am
  156. "She wants to be with me exclusively, though... I kind of want that, but that really goes against the whole harem thing, doesn't it?" Quentyn asks.
  157.
  158. Adam Sokol 4:19 am
  159. She likes music - she likes to support talent and artists. I doubt Val would have any problem with her, but their interests don't really overlap at all.
  160. I'd be very interested if Val decided to replace Ondal as Oa's most powerful worshiipper, though.
  161.
  162. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:20 am
  163. Supporting talent he's absolutely down for.
  164. The original Crisis Band was exactly about that.
  165. Particularly unusual talent.
  166.
  167. Adam Sokol 4:20 am
  168. Well okay, but specifically musical talent.
  169.
  170. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:20 am
  171. Though man, the thought of Valerian going with Oa is...I'm not sure if it's amusing or terrifying, because Val as the exarch of the goddess of peace is fucking frightening
  172.
  173. Adam Sokol 4:20 am
  174. And art in general.
  175.
  176. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:21 am
  177. He'd be like a peace nuke.
  178.
  179. Adam Sokol 4:21 am
  180. Quentyn: "Ha! She says that, she thinks that, but you can convince her otherwise." He slaps you on the back. "I want you to go back to that Prime Material that you aren't technically from and get with her, and over time, you can change her opinions about what she wants. That's good for you both - for you all, right?"
  181. Kan: Indeed. That'd be hilarious. Carving a big peace symbol into a sword of 250 damage per round.
  182.
  183. Justin R 4:22 am
  184. "I guess so... I am the chosen one, after all," Quentyn says with a grin.
  185.
  186. Justin R 4:23 am
  187. (BTW Ana, I think you DC'd after Quentyn and Atha hooked up, but I rolled to see how far he got and it was like a 9/100 or something)
  188. (So not very)
  189.
  190. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:23 am
  191. But yeah, mostly his issue with the gods is that they forget about the little details that matter to mortals so much.
  192.
  193. Adam Sokol 4:23 am
  194. Oh really? I just assumed >_> ALright then.
  195.
  196. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:24 am
  197. If they cared a bit more about the little man he'd have no issues with them.
  198.
  199. Adam Sokol 4:24 am
  200. Quentyn: "You obviously weren't born the chosen one." He sighs. "See, normally, the way this works is a god or goddess gives a prophet a vision of a hundred years in advance or something, then manipulates events so his or her chosen one will be born and do whatever he or she wants done. With you, though... I just saw so much me-damned talent that I made an exception."
  201.
  202. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:24 am
  203. It's just that he kinda assumes they're like Rael - powerful, mostly uncaring, take care of things by proxy
  204.
  205. Adam Sokol 4:24 am
  206. Val: Oa likes to think she's not uncaring! But her purview is so enormous that she needs to delegate stuff to her clerics and druids - and most gods would say the same.
  207. C'mon Val, try out faith - it can't hurt you, it doesn't bite.
  208.
  209. Justin R 4:25 am
  210. "Really? You think I'm that talented?" Quentyn says, surprised.
  211.
  212. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:26 am
  213. Oh yeah, not saying they are
  214. From what I've seen literally all of them are very caring, even the goddess of bad teenage decision
  215. *decisions
  216. This is Valerian's perspective. He's devoted basically the entire last year to fighting an overgod.
  217. It's left him a bit jaded.
  218.
  219. Adam Sokol 4:27 am
  220. Quentyn: "Inexperienced, raw... but yes, talented. Very much so. I'm not going to demand you worship me or anything - you can if you want, I'll obviously have absolutely no problem if you do - but you sheer potential in the field makes you very interesting to me, and I want to help mold you."
  221. Woah dude
  222. Lelth's not. She's a huge bitch.
  223.
  224. Adam Sokol 4:28 am
  225. But aside from her, yes. Val finding faith could be interesting - it's something he hasn't really had, and Oa is so different from him it could be amusing.
  226.
  227. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:29 am
  228. Damn right he hasn't. Part of the reason he's so...let's say caustic?
  229. It's because every person he's found that he could consider a superior or greater to him has been at best questionably moral and at worst entirely bankrupt.
  230.
  231. Adam Sokol 4:30 am
  232. Dude, most of the gods aren't like that >_>
  233. Most.
  234.
  235. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:30 am
  236. Way Valerian sees it, there's no Big Good to match up to Rael's Big Bad.
  237. Like...
  238.
  239. Justin R 4:30 am
  240. "Do you mind if I ask you some questions, then? Or have I taken up too much of your time already?" Quentyn says, glancing at the rest of the gods council.
  241.
  242. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:30 am
  243. Take the two Solars he's met.
  244.
  245. Adam Sokol 4:30 am
  246. Well no, there's not. Would Val only worship an omnipotent deity, not a humanlike one?
  247.
  248. Adam Sokol 4:30 am
  249. Quentyn: "Bah, I'm not listening to Chex. I don't even know how he got this job, he's so damn boring. Ask away, Quentyn."
  250.
  251. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:31 am
  252. They're creatures of utter goodness but one sat there while the elves died and the other one let hundreds if not thousands of years pass as who knows how many people died to save a very small number of souls.
  253. He admires the latter's effort, but sometimes you gotta fold 'em.
  254.
  255. Adam Sokol 4:31 am
  256. That first one was bound to her dungeon.
  257.
  258. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:31 am
  259. Oh, alright. That's a pass then.
  260.
  261. Adam Sokol 4:31 am
  262. The second one was bound to her nature - she saw an opportunity to do good, however unlikely, and had to try it.
  263.
  264. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:32 am
  265. Well yeah, and Valerian does the same but he knows when to say 'yo, I'm doing less good by trying this, time to get outta here
  266.
  267. Justin R 4:32 am
  268. "So... what's more important in a harem, the quality of the girls, or the quantity?" Quentyn says, a little too excitedly.
  269.
  270. Adam Sokol 4:33 am
  271. Quentyn: "It depends on what you're going for." He rubs his chin. "Generally, as a not-set-in-stone rule, I would say quality, as long as you pay attention to each one. Otherwise, if you're only going to pay attention to a few, then quantity. Of course, you can pay attention to a core group and have a larger, outlying harem at your beck and call otherwise. Your choice - all options work. Myself, I have a larger one, but I don't count, since I can just, you know, make more angels."
  272. Kan: And... you did convince her. It took like two minutes for her to accept you were right. She just didn't want to.
  273.
  274. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:34 am
  275. Yeah, but...she's an eternal creature of ultimate goodness.
  276. She should know better than history's biggest murderer.
  277. There's just something very dark about the world's greatest sinner helping everybody else make the right call.
  278.
  279. Adam Sokol 4:35 am
  280. Amy is technically a bigger murderer than Val, I'm just saying.
  281.
  282. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:35 am
  283. Is she?
  284.
  285. Adam Sokol 4:35 am
  286. Look, it's more complicated than that.
  287.
  288. Justin R 4:35 am
  289. "I see, I see. What do you think of the girls that have joined me so far?"
  290.
  291. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:36 am
  292. But yeah, it kinda reminds me of the story about the man who bears the weight of all the world's evils in his back. And he just wishes someone would carry the weight with him, not even all of it, just lightening up his burden.
  293.
  294. Adam Sokol 4:36 am
  295. Consider this: She's devoted the past several hundred years to trying to save these souls. It is all she has done. Then you bust in, say "I can do better with the artifact, they'll just have to accept their poor luck." She can see the logic, but it's not quite the pure goodness (that being helping each soul) that she hoped for. It's adequate but not perfect.
  296.
  297. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:36 am
  298. Hm...yeah, I can see this.
  299.
  300. Adam Sokol 4:37 am
  301. Quentyn: "Each has her own strengths. I would say Atharathes is the best one, though, for sheer..." He holds his hands out. "Quality. Strength of character. That is a damn fine cach, and you'd better appreciate that, because she'll never admit it, but she is all over you."
  302. Anyway, I'm not saying val needs to seriously consider following a god - though he should, if only for the practical reason of where people go who don't follow gods. I'm just saying it's something to consider.
  303.
  304. Adam Sokol 4:38 am
  305. Besides, Oa is fun to RP as and it would give her more excuses to show up >_>
  306.
  307. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:38 am
  308. That actually would be one hell of a dark moment, wouldn't it?
  309. Valerian completes his arc, becomes a great hero, and then he's...gone.
  310. Forever.
  311. And nothing remains except the legacy he's left behind.
  312.
  313. Adam Sokol 4:39 am
  314. Well, everyone dies someday. The question is where you go afterwards.
  315. If no one is going to claim your soul, then it's the Black City.
  316.
  317. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:39 am
  318. I thought Val and the other Twilight people wouldn't even go there? They'd just fade?
  319.
  320. Justin R 4:39 am
  321. "Yeah, there's definitely something about her that's special. It's funny, she's completely different from how she was when she first joined our party," Quentyn says. "I don't know how much you know about that since a lot of it was before we came here..."
  322.
  323. Adam Sokol 4:40 am
  324. No, they won't fade away. They still exist, they still have souls, and thus they still need to go somewhere. That would be bleak as fuck.
  325.
  326. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:40 am
  327. Can you tell me it wouldn't fit though, if circumstances mandated a sadder ending?
  328.
  329. Adam Sokol 4:41 am
  330. Quentyn: "Nothing actually. But let me guess: you rescued her somehow, and her earned her grudging respect, which you hoped would - and it did - turn into something more."
  331. No way, Kan. Because consider this.
  332. If the ending if happy or bittersweet, then the heroes get to have their eternal rest like the heroes they are. Things work out.
  333.
  334. Justin R 4:42 am
  335. "I rescued her from a prison, funnily enough. She used to be all about conquering everything, and I kind of thought she was crazy... it's funny in retrospect, though," Quentyn says with a smile.
  336.
  337. Adam Sokol 4:42 am
  338. If the ending is sad, then they still get to reunite with their loves in the afterlife, and if the ending is going for maximum bleakness, they'd have to live with their perfect loves in their perfect afterlives with their wise, knowing, helpful gods while the world burns and they're helpless to do anything, ever.
  339.
  340. Adam Sokol 4:43 am
  341. Quentyn: "Ha! I love it, sounds like a perfect start to such a relationship. Hero rescues crazy damsel, damsel is then jealous of his relationship with twenty other girls."
  342. Obviously my suggestion of ultimate bleakness straight-up killed Kan.
  343.
  344. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:46 am
  345. No, I'm thinking
  346. What I was talking about was a bittersweet ending.
  347.
  348. Justin R 4:46 am
  349. "Not the type of relationships you hear about in books or anything, but I've certainly enjoyed it... except the parts where physical violence was involved, I suppose."
  350.
  351. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:47 am
  352. The world becomes a better, safer place
  353. But at the end of the day
  354.
  355. Adam Sokol 4:47 am
  356. Quentyn: "Heh... Just a suggestion, but never retaliate. I'm not completely sure why, but it's only funny when it's girl-on-boy."
  357.
  358. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:47 am
  359. Nobody remembers the heroes. WIth no souls, there is no trace left behind, and time erodes all remains of their passage through the world.
  360.
  361. Adam Sokol 4:48 am
  362. No way. The heroes still have souls, so they'll still go somewhere after they die. Sorry if you wanted to be forgotten by the mists of time to be more tragic.
  363.
  364. Justin R 4:48 am
  365. "Heh, I don't think I could even if I wanted to. Speaking of books, though... is there anything you guys could do about those Dylight books? They're god-awful... pun not intended," Quentyn says, laughing.
  366.
  367. Adam Sokol 4:48 am
  368. Quentyn: The angel you're sitting on speaks up. "Oh, you know Dylight? I love that book."
  369.
  370. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:49 am
  371. Ideally there won't be no tragedy, just that I think maximum bittersweetness comes if there's no eternal reward.
  372.
  373. Adam Sokol 4:49 am
  374. Quentyn: Borden rolls his eyes. "Unfortunately, that's not my domain. I'm about harems and brothels - you want either Chelesy, goddess of stories, or Lulave, goddess of lust."
  375. Anyway, Kan... It's just a suggestion. Currently only Kirie has faith in a higher power, though Amy would probably worship Mechanus as a general concept.
  376.
  377. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:50 am
  378. It honestly could happen. Valerian wants to believe there's someone he can rely on.
  379. It's just that it'd take an extraordinary act to get him to believe it.
  380.
  381. Justin R 4:51 am
  382. "I might have to speak to them sometime, thanks. Did you know we had those books in our time too? Somehow, out of all the stories to survive, it had to be that one... I really don't get it," Quentyn says with a sigh.
  383.
  384. Adam Sokol 4:51 am
  385. Oa literally once empowered you to assist you in battle, and she's totally reliable in matters of her domain.
  386.
  387. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:52 am
  388. Yes, but that could be spun as pure self-interest. When I say extraordinary, I don't mean in the overall grand scheme of the world. I mean something that was extraordinary for a god to do. Something that showed great empathy and humanity.
  389.
  390. Adam Sokol 4:52 am
  391. Quentyn: "... Really? Odd. It's... possible that Dylight is somehow written into the source code of the universe, that somehow, when all of reality first formed, a copy of the book was there, and thus, its essence bounces around in all the atoms that make us up, so it will always be with us."
  392.
  393. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:52 am
  394. Tremendous self-sacrifice could be that. Great kindness could be, too.
  395.
  396. Justin R 4:53 am
  397. "That's... a scary, scary thought. I really hope that's not the case."
  398.
  399. Adam Sokol 4:53 am
  400. Kan: She wasn't doing it out of self-interest, she didn't know about the WE threat per se. She just trusted Ondal's judgment before he turned insane, and wanted to aid you.
  401. But I'll keep that in mind, Kan, for later.
  402. Quentyn: "It's just a possibility. I don't know much about this kind of thing, actually, theoretical... goobledygook is also Chelesy's domain, so you can talk to her if you want."
  403. Quentyn: "Word of warning, though, Chelesy is all about magic, and you're a psion. I know she's not crazy about psionics."
  404. Quentyn: "After all, she's the goddess of magic, math, and stories."
  405.
  406. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:54 am
  407. Oh yeah, you have to remember that I'm speaking as Val's writer here and not about my opinion as audience.
  408.
  409. Adam Sokol 4:55 am
  410. Val himself isn't completely sure about what he wants?
  411.
  412. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:55 am
  413. Same way that the gift basket is just a nice gift with no catches but it doesn't rate for Val because he doesn't really care about kindness for himself, because he's desperate and deluded.
  414.
  415. Justin R 4:55 am
  416. "I'm pretty decent at math, at least. Not sure why we had a class on that in Psion Academy, but I think I picked it up fairly quickly," Quentyn says with a shrug.
  417.
  418. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:56 am
  419. He doesn't expect to receive kindness and is thus mostly oblivious to it because he's the hero. Heroes aren't supposed to stand up when they're helped up. They're supposed to summon their reserves of strength and get up solo.
  420. (this is from Val's perspective as I understand it now)
  421.
  422. Adam Sokol 4:57 am
  423. So Val would like a god whom he sees helping normal people? Because... Oa totally does that. She is all over that - her whole gimmick is encouraging peace.
  424.
  425. Adam Sokol 4:58 am
  426. Quentyn: "Well, I think I've helped you as much as I can, Quentyn. I really do hope things work out for ya, I'll give you what support I can."
  427.
  428. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:58 am
  429. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a god that helps normal people. It'd just have to be a god he can acknowledge as bigger than him.
  430. It could be a god that stands up against injustice by literally going out to wage war against the demons and devils.
  431.
  432. Justin R 4:58 am
  433. "One more question before I go... how did you get to be the god of brothels anyway? Not that I'm looking to unseat you or anything," Quentyn says, hoping he doesn't get the wrong idea.
  434.
  435. Kanzaris Kelshen 4:58 am
  436. It could be a god that is a bringer of civilization...but civilized, kind civilization.
  437. Right now Valerian feels lonely. He's the guy who keeps the most powerful fighting force in the world moving and it's taxing. He believes he has to take care of the biggest threats in the world because nobody cares, nobody can do it, and nobody WILL do it if he doesn't.
  438.
  439. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:00 am
  440. To the point that right now, if you offered him godly abilities with all the responsibilities that it entails he'd probably take it just because he thinks he HAS to do the job.
  441. Not even because he wants to
  442.
  443. Adam Sokol 5:00 am
  444. Quentyn: "Heh. Well, during the Flayer War, all but one of the old gods was slain, and a new generation of deities took their place. Guys like Jannar and Oa, and the like. I came after - I was the first post-war new deity. To be blunt about it - I saw a portfolio with no one filling it, thought 'people could use someone to take care of this for them and believe in,' and found an existing deity to sponsor me. Ha! I hope you weren't expecting an exciting story, there."
  445. I think I understand, Kan. I'll keep all of this in mind - I always try to keep conversations with everyone in mind. It's just most of the gods do aspire to take care of the world, so keep that in mind.
  446.
  447. Justin R 5:02 am
  448. "I didn't know that new gods could just be... created like that. That's pretty cool," Quentyn says with a smile.
  449.
  450. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:02 am
  451. Yeah, they probably do - the talk with Chorr for instance, made it clear that he's an 'aight dude.
  452.
  453. Adam Sokol 5:02 am
  454. Quentyn: "Well, it's obviously not common. It's only happened a few times, actually, I'm just one of the lucky ones. Many have tried - and almost all failed. For now, I'd focus on your Dylight problem."
  455.
  456. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:03 am
  457. In fact, once Val was sure he wasn't going to just gather people up for power he was pretty OK with it because he can sympathize LOTS with somebody saying 'hey, I just want some people who see the same things I see'.
  458.
  459. Adam Sokol 5:03 am
  460. Except in Chorr
  461. Except in Chorr's case, it's probably something largely outside of Val's range of caring - I'm sure Val has no problem with blacksmithing, but it's not really his focus.
  462.
  463. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:05 am
  464. Right, but it wasn't about what he did. It was about why he asked for that deal.
  465.
  466. Adam Sokol 5:05 am
  467. And Val would have agreed to anyone asking for that deal?
  468.
  469. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:05 am
  470. Obviously Val would object to sponsoring a deity that just brings misery to the world.
  471.
  472. Adam Sokol 5:05 am
  473. Tiro: You going to continue?
  474.
  475. Justin R 5:05 am
  476. "I'll do what I can," Quentyn says, getting up from the angel's lap. "Thanks for the seat, but uh... try to read some better books, okay?" he says to her.
  477.
  478. Adam Sokol 5:06 am
  479. Well, in fairness, I imagined Sanavan as also helping to endure misery, but yes, he also produces it.
  480.
  481. Justin R 5:06 am
  482. (I'm up for more if you are)
  483.
  484. Adam Sokol 5:06 am
  485. Quentyn: "Sure, I'll pick up Dylight: New Groom soon."
  486. (Continue, Tiro)
  487.
  488. Justin R 5:07 am
  489. "That's... not what I meant," Quentyn says with a sigh. "Thanks for the talk, Borden. You've given me some great advice."
  490.
  491. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:07 am
  492. Well, I meant in general. Like he'd object to sponsoring the god of anger because he doesn't like anger. He considers it destructive.
  493. Which reminds me that it's a pity I didn't talk with Jascar because if there's one god I could see having a vested interest in Valerian, it's him.
  494.
  495. Adam Sokol 5:07 am
  496. Borden salutes you, and waves you off.
  497. (Kan, could you copy this whole conversation - both conversations - and Pastebin it for Accel? I have a feeling he'd like to read it)
  498.
  499. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:08 am
  500. Let's face it, Val is pretty much the Horseman of the Apocalypse when it comes to warring
  501. Sure, no problem
  502.
  503. Adam Sokol 5:08 am
  504. You can time squad in talking to Jascar, I'm fine with that.
  505.
  506. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:09 am
  507. Nah, it wouldn't make much sense narratively. It just amuses me because the worst thing is that Val actually appreciates martial skill quite a bit for obvious reasons.
  508. he just considers it a sort of...last resort.
  509. Well, that's not quite right, not last resort, as much as not the best resort.
  510.
  511. Adam Sokol 5:09 am
  512. It would be fine narratively, dude. You were in the place, talking to gods.
  513.
  514. Justin R 5:09 am
  515. Can Quentyn talk to Chelesy?
  516.
  517. Adam Sokol 5:10 am
  518. Quentyn: Chelesy is sitting in the front row, paying close attention to Chex. She notices you as you approach, however. "Ah, hello." She nods.
  519.
  520. Justin R 5:10 am
  521. "You have a minute to talk?" Quentyn asks, trying to be polite.
  522.
  523. Adam Sokol 5:11 am
  524. I'm wondering... are there any major domains for deities I missed in my deity list? Compared to other D&D worlds with deities, I mean.
  525. I know there's no god of stars, the sun, or the moon, which I did consciously.
  526.
  527. Adam Sokol 5:11 am
  528. Quentyn: "Certainly, certainly. I don't normally talk to mortals directly, but you are something of an exception, so please, sit down."
  529.
  530. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:12 am
  531. If we assume Shanao is just blanket civilization, there's no god of wisdom.
  532.
  533. Adam Sokol 5:12 am
  534. God of truth and wisdom, yes.
  535. No god of truth, that's a big gap. How did I miss that?
  536.
  537. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:12 am
  538. Stuff like a god of thieves always sounded retarded to me but a god of wisdom is major.
  539. Well, a god of truth would be
  540. I don't want to say major but not minor either.
  541. It's weird because it's a very specific and yet important portfolio
  542. It would be a weak god, and yet one with influence beyond his pwoer.
  543.
  544. Adam Sokol 5:13 am
  545. God of thieves does kind of annoy me, yeah. I dislike gods who are freaking designed for only one class - other than nature gods, which I make an exception for.
  546.
  547. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:13 am
  548. *power
  549. Well
  550. Nature gods aren't really designed for a class
  551.
  552. Adam Sokol 5:13 am
  553. Maybe I could fold truth into an existing god...
  554. Nature gods = druids, it just works.
  555.
  556. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:13 am
  557. Makes sense to have them, we real humans had nature gods forever
  558.
  559. Adam Sokol 5:13 am
  560. I know, that's why I make an exception.
  561.
  562. Justin R 5:13 am
  563. Quentyn sits down. "I was mainly wondering about Dylight... like, why does it exist, and why is it so awful?" he says, bluntly.
  564.
  565. Adam Sokol 5:14 am
  566. Quentyn: "Ugh, Dylight." She rolls her eyes. "Are you sure you want to hear this, Quentyn? There are things... man was not meant to know."
  567.
  568. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:14 am
  569. Technically there's no god of love, but considering there's a god of brothels and a goddess of lust, the portfolio is sorta covered. It's just the real deal that's missing. What else...
  570.
  571. Justin R 5:14 am
  572. "...I'm ready, I think," Quentyn says, curious.
  573.
  574. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:15 am
  575. A god of innovation I think, too, in contrast to one of tradition.
  576. Of revolution, even.
  577.
  578. Adam Sokol 5:15 am
  579. Revolution sounds kind of weird to have a god for? I don't know, I've never heard of one.
  580.
  581. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:15 am
  582. Revolution is just a cool word to use for change.
  583.
  584. Adam Sokol 5:16 am
  585. I know. "God of change?" What kind of change?
  586.
  587. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:17 am
  588. All changes. To take what's failing and put something better in its place.
  589. Of course, what IS failing depends on the person you're talking to.
  590. Which is the beauty of it. The god of change is the god of innovators, revolutionaries, radicals and extremists.
  591.
  592. Adam Sokol 5:18 am
  593. Quentyn: "Alright. The truth is that the previous goddess of magic and god of stories, who were two distinct entities before I came to be and absorbed both of their portfolios, both had the same chosen one. She was a bard of unlimited ambition and no talent - Mephanie Steyer. I knew her, back when I was mortal and she was too. Mephanie and I were... well, not friends, but acquantances. I joined the Flayer War and eventually ascended, but Mephanie chose to retreat underground with some of her friends and 'wait it out.' Absurd. Well, she eventually realized that she would die of old age if nothing else, so she turned to what many arcanists have over the millennia: lichdom."
  594. "The problem is that liches are among the most popular bad guys for adventurers to attack on sight - so she hopes to render that less likely by writing books about good-hearted, non-threatening lich boys."
  595. I'll keep that in mind, Kan, thanks.
  596. Anyway... If Val ends up finding faith, I think that'll be interesting, and if not, that'll be interesting too.
  597.
  598. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:20 am
  599. If he doesn't find anything to believe in, he'll have to look down, not up.
  600.
  601. Justin R 5:20 am
  602. "But most adventurers are male, from my experience, and Dylight appeals mainly to females... not sure she thought this one through very well," Quentyn thinks aloud.
  603.
  604. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:20 am
  605. i. e., deal with the fact that he's alone, suck it up, find comfort somewhere else, and start giving everybody else what he doesn't have.
  606. Oh yeah, and technically, there's gods of Night and Day missing, aren't they? Different from Stars, Sun and Moon
  607.
  608. Adam Sokol 5:21 am
  609. Quentyn: "I never said Mephanie was the brightest light in the harbor, did I? But... to be fair, think about it: male adventurers realize girls are interested in lich boys, it's suddenly a bad thing to be associated with busting into a lair and murdering a lich."
  610. Bah, night and day don't get gods.
  611.
  612. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:22 am
  613. Since the night means things like secrets, indulgence, pleasure, etc. While light is harsh, revealing, and so on
  614.
  615. Adam Sokol 5:22 am
  616. I would just make two gods of opposites as conceps in general.
  617. conceps
  618.
  619. Adam Sokol 5:22 am
  620. concepts jesus christ T key.
  621.
  622. Justin R 5:22 am
  623. con"scep"s
  624.
  625. Adam Sokol 5:23 am
  626. >_>
  627.
  628. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:23 am
  629. Huh
  630. You know one concept that IS missing?
  631. Time.
  632.
  633. Justin R 5:23 am
  634. "Makes sense, I suppose. One thing I don't get though: Dylight existed in our time as well. Any idea how that could happen?"
  635.
  636. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:23 am
  637. It's an ultra broad one too - you could comfortably make a god of the past and one of the future and still have lots of space left for several more.
  638. (clearly the God/dess of Time is the one surviving Old God)
  639.
  640. Adam Sokol 5:24 am
  641. Kan: I considered time! But I decided that was so important that the gods in general just handle it, and banned time travel while they were at it.
  642. And there already was one surviving old god.
  643. You killed his ass.
  644.
  645. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:25 am
  646. I'm just thinking about it because it's funny that there are no oracles or future seers.
  647. Or if they are we haven't met any yet.
  648. And yet a god that could see the future would be enormously popular.
  649. All the prayers ever hoping for guidance
  650.
  651. Adam Sokol 5:25 am
  652. Quentyn: "There are a few possibilities. First, Mephanie survived all those years as a lich. Second, the book is just so enduring that it survived all those years. Third... some malovelent spirit is behind it, sending Dylight out again and again for some reason, and Mephanie is just the latest 'author.' "
  653. I hate ancient prophecies.
  654. They're the lamest plot device.
  655. They ruined Star Wars and Starcraft.
  656. Fuck 'em
  657.
  658. Adam Sokol 5:26 am
  659. No ancient prophecies in my universe, except jokey ones.
  660.
  661. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:27 am
  662. The important bit about ancient prophecies is acknowledging that they can be broken OR making them so vague they always fit what the heroes do.
  663. Because otherwise the heroes will literally overwrite the universe's canon unless you railroad 'em.
  664. ...Which is kind of badass if you think about it.
  665.
  666. Justin R 5:28 am
  667. "I wouldn't be surprised if the last one was the case. It certainly hasn't survived this long due to its literary qualities, that's for sure," Quentyn says with a smile.
  668.
  669. Adam Sokol 5:28 am
  670. Kind of badass, yes, but I still hate them as a storytelling concept.
  671. Quentyn: "Ha! Yes... so tell me, Quentyn, you're a smart kid... Have you ever considered dabbling in the arcane?" (multiclassing as a wizard)
  672.
  673. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:29 am
  674. I don't mind them
  675. But only because I read enough fiction that showed them broken that I got over greek mythology abusing the shit out of them
  676. Any prophecy that is classically greek can go fuck itself.
  677.
  678. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:30 am
  679. Really, ancient prophecies are good so long as they proceed naturally from the hero's actions and he's aware of them.
  680. Check The Belgariad and The Malloreon for an example.
  681.
  682. Adam Sokol 5:31 am
  683. Even if you accept that, that still makes them horrible for a D&D game, as the players' actions determine what's going on.
  684.
  685. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:31 am
  686. But if they're forced on him because he didn't know something...blech
  687. Yeah, in D&D prophecies only work if they're about doom and you avert them.
  688.
  689. Justin R 5:31 am
  690. "I've thought about it - not sure it's really my style. A lot of the arcane users I've met... haven't really inspired me to join their ranks, really," Quentyn says honestly.
  691.
  692. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:31 am
  693. Or if you fail and they happen poignantly.
  694. (Also, sorry I didn't talk to Jascar Ana - I just can't think of a reason why Val would approach, sorry)
  695.
  696. Adam Sokol 5:32 am
  697. Quentyn: "Well, you should consider it. Magic can do things psionics can't. It's just a suggestion - don't think I'm pressing myself on you, I know Borden's got you staked out if you decide to go faithful."
  698.
  699. Adam Sokol 5:33 am
  700. It's fine, Kan. Jascar will just remain without a good conversation to flesh out his character.
  701.
  702. Justin R 5:33 am
  703. "I wouldn't mind you pressing yourself on me," Quentyn says with a grin.
  704. (Had to)
  705.
  706. Adam Sokol 5:33 am
  707. Also, Kan... I want to make a druid in Pathfinder, but I don't want to use wild shape as a major aspect. Is that workable?
  708. Quentyn: Roll diplomacy imo
  709.
  710. OnlineHost 5:34 am
  711. tirofog444 rolled 1 20-sided die: 16
  712.
  713. Justin R 5:34 am
  714. Haha
  715. 37
  716.
  717. Adam Sokol 5:35 am
  718. Quentyn: "I'm a goddess, kid. I can literally shape angels and have them do... things. Now get going, if I've helped you."
  719.
  720. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:35 am
  721. Yeah
  722. Wildshape is bonus goodies
  723. Amazing bonus goodies but not mandatory
  724.
  725. Adam Sokol 5:35 am
  726. I basically really want a nature mage.
  727. Shapeshifting doesn't work for my concept.
  728.
  729. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:35 am
  730. Totally alright, isn't there an archetype for it?
  731.
  732. Adam Sokol 5:35 am
  733. No, there's not.
  734. No archetype gives up wild shape for something else.
  735. None, and druids have like twenty archetypes.
  736.
  737. Justin R 5:36 am
  738. Quentyn shrugs. "Was worth a try. So I take it there's no way to put a ban on Dylight, if you hate it as much as I do."
  739. Should be a question mark
  740.
  741. Adam Sokol 5:37 am
  742. Quentyn: "Sorry, I already used my ban on The Late Latsby. You've never heard of it, but trust me, it was the right call."
  743.
  744. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:38 am
  745. Man, that's just dumb
  746. Just don't use it then IMO?
  747. Should work and nature mages are cool
  748.
  749. Justin R 5:39 am
  750. "Worse than Dylight? That's hard to believe..."
  751.
  752. Adam Sokol 5:39 am
  753. I'm not sure what to use spell-wise. Entangle?
  754. Quentyn: "Dylight is a least avoidable. The Late Latsby would be part of school curriculum if I didn't ban it."
  755.
  756. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:41 am
  757. Entangle is godlike
  758. Use it and own bones
  759.
  760. Adam Sokol 5:41 am
  761. All of my allies are melee. Is that a problem?
  762.
  763. Kanzaris Kelshen 5:41 am
  764. Not if you aim far away enough
  765. If necessary you can shrink the area.
  766. Remember that spells can be cast below CL
  767.
  768. Adam Sokol 5:42 am
  769. Hm... I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
  770.
  771. Justin R 5:43 am
  772. "Well, I trust your judgment. I figured it was worth a try though," Quentyn says with a shrug.
  773.
  774. Adam Sokol 5:43 am
  775. Quentyn: Anything else?
