Dear anime/manga enthusiasts,
-Yaoi and yuri cannot be used as synonyms for gay and lesbian. It’s incredibly disrespectful to associate sexualities with types of anime porn.
-It’s completely hypocritical to support gay men because you like yaoi and not support lesbian women, and vice versa.
-Someone is not homophobic for not liking yaoi or yuri.
Gay men and lesbian women do not automatically like yaoi or yuri either.
-Gay men and/or lesbian women should never be asked to perform ‘real life yaoi/yuri’ for you.
-Yaoi and yuri are also unacceptable as synonyms for homosexual relations. They are a type of porn, and as such should not be discussed in polite company, homosexual or otherwise.
-Asking who is the ‘uke’ and who is the ‘seme’ is completely inappropriate and assuming that homosexual couples always fall into specific gender roles.
-Though yaoi often features non-consensual relations, please understand that most homosexual men and people in general are not rapists and that rape is never okay. Please do not try and force your affections on anyone, “kawaii ukes” included.
-FTM and MTF men and women still count as gay or lesbian if they identify as such. They are not ‘faking yaoi/yuri.’
