  10. S0 Section 0 Introduction
  11. This is a brief guide on how to make competitive pokemon in the X and Y games for the 3DS. To start, you must be familiar
  12. with a few terms, IVs and EVs. IVs are Individual Values, which signify each pokemon's ability in a particular stat. There are 31 different IVs for every stat, making for hundreds of thousands if not millions of unique pokemon for each species upon hatching or catching. Competitive Breeding is the process of eliminating as many variables in that IV randomizing. EVs are Effort Values and
  13. are how pokemon "grow" besides leveling in the game. Each pokemon can recieve a maximum of 510 EVs, and 4 EVs turn into one actual stat point for that particular stat. A brief guide will be given to make EV training just a bit easier.

  16. S1 Section 1. Necessary Items
  17.
  18. -Destiny Knot
  19. This item will force an amazing 5 Individual Values of the holder of this item to be passed to the child! It can be found
  20. in a hotel in Cyllage City by talking to a maid.
  21.
  22. -Everstone
  23. If you have gotten through the game to the point where you wish to start competitive breeding, you will probably have one of these by natural adventuring. if not, one can be located in the leftmost house from the Scientist in Geosenge City. The reason we need
  24. it is because the Everstone forces a pokemons Nature to be passed onto its child if it is female or a ditto.
  25.
  26. -Power Items (Anklet, Band, Lens, Weight, Belt, Bracer)
  27. These items will make later processes much easier as they give 4 Effort Values in a particular stat after a pokemon is defeated in battle.
  28.
  29. -Lucky Egg
  30. This item will make training to level 50, the competitive standard, much much easier. It can be found in a hotel in Coumarine City.
  31.
  32. S2. Section 2. "Necessary" Pokemon
  33.
  34. - A 6 IV ditto
  35. These little gems are extremely, extremely rare and are prized dearly because they are the pokemon that makes breeding at this level possible. certain subreddits and also pokemon twitch streamer communities usually have some to trade for, be patient with getting one from a trusted source, this is the one issue with scamming in pokemon. DONT use the GTS.
  36.
  37. -A ditto of every nature
  38. This can be achieved by getting a ditto friend safari, also rare but can be found in the "Friend Safari" subreddit. Pairing this with your everstone is the first major step.
  39.
  40. S3. Mechanics, Natures, and Egg Moves (The Breeding Process)
  41.
  42. The main process of breeding competitively will be described here, in the form of priorities and steps
  43.
  44. 1. Hidden abilities
  45. - This should come first and be kept under attention, because female pokemon have a 90% chance to pass their own ability
  46. to the child and a 10% chance for the child to have a different ability, and males are much less reliable. You cannot get
  47. the hidden ability via the 10%, but pokemon with more than 1 basic ability does apply. If you have the hidden ability to
  48. start with and the child loses it, it can't be bred back. so be careful about this at all times.
  49. 2. Egg Moves
  50. - certain pokemon have powerful moves that are very effective in battling, like Fire Fang on a mawile or Stealth Rocks on
  51. a skarmory. most pokemon have egg groups and you need to find a pokemon that learns the egg move naturally and is in the
  52. same egg group and is MALE. That way, when bred with a FEMALE of the pokemon you want, the hatched baby will always have
  53. the egg move right away.
  54. 3. Nature
  55. - By this point, you might for example, have a female Poison Heal Gligar with an egg move you want. But you want an
  56. Impish Nature instead of the Jolly Nature you have right now. Take your pokemon and breed it with an Impish ditto
  57. holding an everstone, the children will have an Impish Nature. Finding out which Natures are best for your pokemon can
  58. be easily googled or memorized.
  59. 4. Individual Values
  60. -Now that you have the first three steps completed, all thats left is to put the destiny knot on the 6IV ditto and breed it with the correct nature, correct ability, correct egg move pokemon you want holding an everstone. Get 5 eggs and hatch them, then take them to the IV checker in the pokemon center in Kiloude City. Every stat he says "They simply can't be beat!" is a perfect IV and you can mark your pokemon for which IVs are perfect using the little symbols on the summary, there are 6 symbols and 6 stats, Circle for HP, Triangle for Attack, Square for Defense, Heart for Special Attack, Star for Special Defense, and Diamond for Speed. Try to get Females with higher IVs than the one you're breeding in the daycare, then replace it. The Everstone makes sure you keep the same nature, the female gender gives 90% probability of the right ability, and the Destiny Knot makes 5 IVs pass down from the parents. As you get closer to 6 IVs of the pokemon you want, the probability gets closer.
  61. a. if for example your pokemon has a perfect speed and attack stat, if the speed and attack stats are included in the destiny knot 5/6, that child will also have perfect speed and attack stats. Breeding two 6 IV pokemon will make the chances of another 6IV child a 1 in 31 chance, a much better chance than the 1 in many millions of catching one in the wild. Hundreds of eggs can be needed, this part is based on luck! keep track of your gender and ability!
  62.
  63. side note, you can get away with 5 ivs most of the time, physical attackers don't need a perfect special attack stat and special attackers don't need a perfect attack stat.
  64.
  65. EV Horde Training
  66. - Take your newly hatched, 5 or 6 IV pokemon, check to make sure you have the egg moves you want, and the ability you want. Equip the correct Power Item and find hordes using Sweet Scent with this guide: http://nuggetbridge.com/articles/ev-training-hotspots-x-y/
  67.
  68. Each pokemon can max out at 252 EVs in a particular stat, and 6 EVs left over to put in another stat. Many sites have guides to suggest the right EV spreads, but feel free to try something a little different, like putting 92 EVs into a third stat and making one of the 252 stats 166.
  69.
  70. Thats how you BREED a competitve pokemon! Making a balanced team usually has a special attacker, a physical attacker, a defense tank, and a special defense team, with more or less of each to make a 6 person team. That part is up to you!
  71.
  72. Good Luck Breeding!
