  22. “retrospect” and “hindsight” both mean looking back on something in the past
  23. “retrospect” has Latin roots and “hindsight” has Germanic roots
  24. scrib/script = write (often verb forms end with “scribe” and nouns with “script” or “scription”)
  25. (“scripture” usually means religious writings, especially in the Bible)
  26. sect = cut
  27. semi = half (this is the Latin root, the Greek root is “hemi”, this s/h alternation is common)
  28. sol = alone (as in “solitude” and “desolate” and “solo”)
  29. sol = sun (as in “solar” and “solarium”)
  30. soph = wise/wisdom
  31. (“sophomore” = wise fool)
  32. struct = build
  33. sub = under
  34. *super = over
  35. tele = far
  36. term = end
  37. (Many words related to language and writing are related to words for “end”, with the roots “term” and “fin” - You put limits around the meaning of a word when you define it, for example.)

  41. uni = one (this root is always pronounced with a ‘y’ sound at the beginning)
  42. vac = empty
  43. veri = true
  44. viv/vit = life
  45. vol = will/choice
  46. xeno = foreign
  47. zoo = animal (remove one ‘o’ before -ic suffix: azoic, paleozoic)
