  2. Zoe cheated on her then boyfriend (Eron Gjoni) with five other guys.[1]
  3. One of the guys, Nathan Grayson, wrote for Kotaku and RockPaperShotgun, and published two articles positively pushing her and her game.[2] The next one, Robin Arnott, had a relationship with Zoe during a game jam.

  5. Robin had previously been responsible for giving DQ (Depression Quest) an award from IndieCade (which included a cash prize).[3] Joshua Boggs, the third guy, is her boss. And married. The other two guys' (Blue and Turquoise) identities were kept anonymous.

  7. When confronted, she gaslighted him, lied to him, and hid evidence from him.[4] She also refused to inform Boggs' wife about the ordeal. Eron couldn't contact Bogg's wife and felt Zoe was abusing her position of power. He ultimately released the information about Zoe's affair online, feeling it to be his responsibility.[5]

  10. The Fallout

After Zoe's ex posted the information in a few forums, individuals later posted the information onto 4chan.[6] Zoe released a post on her tumblr, titled "I will not negotiate with terrorists",[7] where she stated the allegations had nothing to do with games and accused her boyfriend of using 4chan as his personal army.

  14. If Eron had been lying about Zoe, why would she not debunk the claims or take him to court for slander?

  16. A few noteworthy news sites have covered Zoe's and Eron's blogs (like Daily Dot and The Daily Beast),[8] some implying that the didn't read thezoeblog (such as referring to Eron as "jilted") or taking Zoe's tumblr post as fact.

  18. Zoe had also wrongly filled a DMCA (which was just a still image of her game, DQ, with commentary) against the Youtube use "themundanematt," as well as took down several sites, and contacted several moderators to silence forum discussions about the incident.[9]

  20. Zoe's actions would later be criticized by Chloe, whose boyfriend (not one of the Five Guys) had cheated on her with Zoe. She denied the claim to Chloe's face, and when Chloe directly confronted her in response Zoe deleted all evidence of her part in the conversation, leaving only screenshots (however Chloe's tweets still leave a trace).[10]

She has also been accused of framing wizardchan (an offshoot of 4chan) as harassing her, as well as "doxing" herself.[11] Later, the Escapist's article covering her harassment by wizardchan was later modified to note the claims were not verified.[12] But these are accusations, and it would be safe to assume, until proven otherwise, that they are not true.

  24. The most distinct accusation was that Zoe (and her fans/followers) had doxed the The Fine Young Capitalists(TFYC) which ran a game design competition for girls. TFYC alleges that there were some discrepancies with their transgender policy (which they amended) and that the focus was later shifted to money.[13]

  26. Nathan published his article related to Zoe Quinn on Kotaku, March 31st. Then in early April they began a relationship. This lines up Eron's claims that Zoe cheated on him "Apr 1st - 6th".[14] It needs to be stated that if Nathan had a relationship with Zoe six days later (and six being generous) that his article would have been clearly subject to a lot of bias.

  28. And despite Zoe's claims that Eron is using 4chan as his own personal army, Eron is still holding the torch for her. When asked why he posted it on 4chan, Eron stated that he actually didn't, and rather that other people saw his posts and posted his blog to 4chan.[6]

  30. Eron has gone on record stating that, while not a collective, some 4chan members "did some bad stuff, which honestly wasn’t really cool" and "I don’t think the slut shaming and rape threats are okay."[15]

  32. He has expressed his goals as thus; 'I am playing a different game than the one she’s playing, or 4chan is playing, or her supporters are playing.
  33. The name of that game is “Make Zoe’s *strong principled stances* into strong principled reality.”
  34. And the particular *strong principled stance* here, is that to let people act in absence of all relevant information, is to violate their agency.
  35. So I am allowing the spread of all relevant information.'[16]

  37. One of Zoe's "*strong principled stances*" is that cheating on someone and then having sex is sex without (informed) intent, which she had said herself.[4a][17]

  39. If Eron is a leader of an army of 4chan users, despite his actions, than a warlord like Genghis Kahn must have been trying to inform the Mongol Army about the prospect of have a reasonable discussion with the enemies instead of killing and pillaging.

  41. There's no denial that there are people who have been harassing Zoe Quinn.[7] All the harassment, doxing, vandalism, and sharing personal information of Zoe around, she does not deserve this...

  43. But Boggs' wife does not deserve to be kept in the dark about her husbands affair.

  45. And people do not deserve to be kept in the dark about what kind of person (not referring to personal contacts or photos) Zoe is.

  48. Here's one last thing to think about; John Updike, after discussing his Five Rules of book reviewing, on integrity:
  49. 'To these concrete five might be added a vaguer sixth, having to do with maintaining a chemical purity in the reaction between product and appraiser. Do not accept for review a book you are predisposed to dislike, or committed by friendship to like. Do not imagine yourself a caretaker of any tradition, an enforcer of any party standards, a warrior in any ideological battle, a corrections officer of any kind. Never, never...try to put the author “in his place,” making of him a pawn in a contest with other reviewers. Review the book, not the reputation.'[18]
