League of Scholars
Institutions of higher learning are usually independent. Most academies focus on the arcane arts, but all teach other subjects, such as astronomy, law, mathematics, medicine, and philosophy as well, with each academy having its own area of expertise. Each acadamy is made up of departments. Each department selects a member to serve on the board, which in turn selects a member to serve on the league council, which makes intra-academy law and rules in intra-academy disputes. Most academies are granted independence in exchange for providing their services to the local lord, be it a king, duke, or earl. None pay taxes. Some are city-states in their own right, owing allegiance to no external authority save for the League Council. Rank is from 0 to 6, with the Status of its members varying by the local political landscape.

Rank 3 - Professor/Researcher
Rank 4 - Department Member
Rank 5 - Board Member
Rank 6 - League Councillor
