  1. For transparency I'm not a Christian but I do have a fair degree of familiarity with the teachings. I went to a Christian school and was into the faith until around my mid teens.  After that I became an atheist for a while before eventually moving more into a general agnostic spirituality where I now learn from everyone and practice a bit of  **the occult**. I'm still pretty new at it though so take anything I say about it with a grain of salt.
  2.
  3. I'm mainly familiar with Baptist and Pentecostal denominations which will color my perspective a bit. I'm not very familiar with Catholicism or Gnosticism. Since a good chunk of denominations prefer the KJV it's the translation I'll use.
  4.
  5. Also as I've not studied the Bible since my teens I'm rusty on what it actually says so I've used http://www.openbible.info/topics/ to find a large portion of the relevant verses. I checked them for context as verses and chapters are manmade, they weren't there originally.
  6.
  7. First let's learn some of the things the bible says about marriage in general.
  8.
  9. I Corinthians Chapter 7 tells us that ideally we don't marry and instead remain celibate. However this is tough due to the strong sex drive present in humanity as a whole.
  10.
  11. >1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
  12. >2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
  13. After laying down some basic rules about consent and manners in marriage it goes on to say:
  14. >6 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
  15. >7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
  16. >8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I.
  17. >9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
  18.
  19. Marriage is seen as the least of evils. Without it there exists fear of sexual misconduct, lustful thoughts, and perhaps other ways which sinful behavior could manifest. For example a man who feels sexually repressed may find himself more prone to bouts of anger making marriage the lesser evil.
  20.
  21. While there is no human being in a physical sense present within a waifu relationship Jesus does appear to notice some of the effect in Matthew Chapter 5.
  22.
  23. >27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
  24. >28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
  25.
  26. These verses, as I've commonly seen explained forbid pornography and lusting after a woman you aren't married to. I can only assume this extends to simulated persons as well—ai, drawings, stories, etc as the emotions are still there and the same regardless of whether or not they exist. The existence is irrelevant to the mental effect.
  27.
  28. This leads us to idolatry which is the common reason people will say Waifus aren't allowed in Christianity. Let's see why idolatry isn't allowed which is expounded on in Exodus Chapter 20.
  29.
  30. >3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
  31. >4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
  32. >5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God.
  33.
  34. It seems the problem with idolatry is placing the idol itself above god, not necessarily having one at all. Idolatry in general is discouraged due to the risk of it leading to this but to my understanding isn't outright banned. When I went to church I recall a sermon given on a similar topic that talked about vices such as television; how they can easily become the main focus in life instead of God becoming an idol. So long as you don't worship them as a god there seems to be a solid argument that they're still okay.
  35.
  36. Another issue I could see coming up is the issue of sensuality. It can be considered a sensual, earthly pleasure. You could also say it's the lord giving you the desires of your heart for good deeds. I couldn't find any verses relating well to this.
  37. Lastly there is the question of what a waifu is. You can classify it into a more metaphysical outlook with things like a waifu being a thoughtform, spirit, that they exist somewhere in some sort of other dimension and so on. To look at it from a more earthly perspective it's merely the brains centers for things like empathy working on things that aren't real letting us feel a real bond with them.
  38.
  39. There's a few ways this can go depending on what you think they are. 1 John Chapter 4 says this.
  40.
  41. >1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
  42. >2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
  43. >3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
  44.
  45. Other parts of the chapter describe what could be related to certain parts of occultism as is sprinkled throughout much of the Bible. Notably the following which can be said to be a similar thing happening with waifus
  46.
  47. >12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
  48. >13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
  49.
  50. At the same time theres lines like this in Exodus 22 when God gave Moses several rules for the Hebrews in the wilderness after leaving Egypt.
  51.
  52. >18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
  53.
  54. It doesn't get that much more clear than that. You could try and make the case it's allowed in certain circumstances. If you're one to believe much of the old testament law was overturned, or that it only applies to the Jews sorcery is mentioned several times in Revelation. Revelation 21 speaks of it damningly. It doesn't seem to be talked about much in other portions of the new testament though.
  55. >8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
  56.
  57. I'd say it depends on how you view it. Maybe to you they aren't anything magical, or are of God making them to my current understanding fine. They can be disallowed though. I know there's a few Christian sects okay with magic, or only specific bits of magic (they won't admit to it being such) they'd consider allowed like the Pentecostals which was what my main church was.
  58.
  59. It seems for the most part to be reconcilable with Christian thought. It'd be a hard thing to get others to be okay with though.
