- why do we lie?
- who are we protecting?
- honesty is obsolete,
- the truth is heavily outspoken,
- we lie to ourselves.
- buy fancy watches and take public transit to expensive restaurants.
- we fool ourselves;
- we fool each other,
- no ones really happy.
- but we feel like we're supposed to be content,
- so we pretend,
- our parents told us it should all be a certain way,
- the world tells us it should all be a certain way.
- I'm supposed to be happy
- I'm supposed to be 27 and successful with two kids and a wife that I sometimes fight with but could never leave because I love her
- because I "love" her
- "love" her
- the word burns the sides of my throat and slits the corners of my mouth
- like a lie that stings the tongue
- or a bee that pricks the finger.
- but nothing is like this.
- it will never be like this.
- and I should accept that.
- and you should accept that.
- we should all just stop fucking lying and try to look at things realistically.
- talk to each other,
- be honest,
- everyone's tired of lying,
- and we're all tired of being lied to.
- the world doesn't disappear every time you close your eyes.
