- There was a new addition to the office: a woman called Daidouji. Everyone was stunned when she showed up. The first thing everyone noticed was her figure. She looked like a professional athlete fit for competition but retained a womanly curves and breasts. We had an amazon working in our office. The women were envious and the men were enraptured. The second thing everyone noticed was her imposing aura that foiled any attempt to go near her let alone speak to her.
- She started to stand out from everyone else and it made a series of unusual events at the workplace even more noticeable. There was one time she missed the lift and instead she used the stars, launching herself up a whole flight in a single bound. Then there was the day she got angry at the photocopier and knocked it aside with a tap of her hand. One morning she confided in one of the other employees that she was running late but managed to make it time by running to work from five stations away instead of waiting for a train. She didn't even break a sweat.
- All of these events piled on until no one in the office would go near her.
- Except for me.
- Each morning we'd greet each other and over time those greetings grew longer until we were caught up in lengthy conversations that caught the attention of everyone else on the floor. We were told off by our supervisor repeatedly to get back to work. Our talks might have gotten us a lot of negative attention but I did manage to learn about Daidouji such as her love of martial arts, cooking and cryptozoology. All of her peculiarities lead to Daidouji invading my thoughts throughout the day. There were afternoons I struggled to get any work done.
- One afternoon, right as everyone was packing up to head home, Daidouji came over to my cubicle and caught me daydreaming. She slapped her hand down on my shoulder 'Come up to the roof with me.' I saw her catlike grin 'There's a great view up there. We can watch the sunset.'
- Her odd request peaked my curiosity and I followed her to the roof. When we opened the door to the roof the sun was already setting. It days were getting shorter and colder as winter approached. I had to fight off the cold breeze but Daidouji wasn't phased by the chill. She reached into a shopping bag she'd brought with her and handed me a can of beer. It was two times larger than any cans I'd seen before. I didn't know she drank and I also could recognise the tiger logo on the side of the can. It wasn't any brand I knew of. Sitting up here and drinking I felt like a delinquent.
- Few buildings around us towered over the building we worked in and we had a clear view of the surrounding area. While Daidouji peered into the distance, I watched her intently. The sun set behind her and surrounded her in a warm, orange glow that made her blonde hair golden and shine. She let her blazer cling to her shoulders and I could see her blouse and pants struggle to contain her shapely figure. The top buttons on her blouse were undone and let her cleavage pop.
- Daidouji caught me gazing at her and smirked 'Like the view?'
- I jumped and words raced out of my mouth 'Oh, yeah. It's great.'
- In my rush to answer her I stuttered and stretch the "gr" in " great."
- Daidouji smirk grew larger and bared her teeth 'You better not let that go to waste.' She pointed at the beer in my hand and gave me a wink to let me know she was joking around.
- 'Oh sure.' I anxiously sipped to appease her. 'There's something I wanted to ask. Why'd you bring me up here?'
- 'It's my birthday.' Daidouji answered without the slightest hesitation or quiver in her voice.
- I had no idea. In the time we'd spent talking together she'd never mentioned her birthday to me. Guilt and shame washed over me.
- 'If I'd known I would have arranged something.' I muttered 'Could have gotten you a gift.'
- Daidouji chuckled 'Don't worry about it. I wanted it like this.'
- 'Really?'
- 'Of course.' Daidouji's intimidating aura changed. It was warm and nurturing. 'All I wanted was a small celebration. With good company.'
- "Good company?" Was she really talking about me? I was flattered but I couldn't let her birthday end like this.
- I mustered all of my courage.
- 'Well, how about we go to dinner? My treat?'
- My heart raced but I also felt a relief deeper inside.
- 'You're asking me out on a date?' Daidouji tilted her head.
- I held my ground 'Yeah, I guess I am.'
- 'Then I accept.' Daidouji pumped her fist 'I'm warning you though I'm not like those other dainty girls. I can actually eat.'
- Daidouji wasn't lying. On a brief trip to America she had eaten a 72oz steak in under a minute. Had there been someone to officiate she could have been a world record holder. She wanted to make a trip to England to try a 150oz steak she'd read about online.
- I took Daidouji's hand to lead her from the roof.
- 'You move fast' She laughed.
- My shoulders stiffened from embarrassment but I slowly relaxed and as if to sense the change inside me Daidouji moved in close until we were shoulder-to-shoulder. Our offices had emptied and so we were able to head outside in peace. I didn't think I would meet a woman like her working in a place like this but I knew from this point on our conversations would change and the glances from our colleagues would only intensify. It would all be worth it.
