i sat by the dying dog today i didn't
want to at first he's old and crotchety
curmudgeonly he was always pissed about
something ask my mom why she can't feel
one of her fingers anymore he nipped it just a bit
i had learned to stay away from the dog and here
he was looking me dead in the face with a
puppy-dog stare he whined a little call me
silly but i swear it looked exactly like someone
crying out for help for hospice
i looked him in the eyes but i couldn't
stand up to his eyes reddened with age so
i sat there with him in front of the tv stroking his paw while he
tried to drift off to sleep it's almost as if in his age and eternal
canine wisdom he realized that i am here to help him
and so a boy and his dog did sit in the living room
