UNMDG
Since 2005, progress has been made
In 30 countries, hunger was reduced by at least 25%.
In countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, SEA, East Asia and Northern Africa, more than 90% enrolled in primary school.
Safe drinking water increased from 71% [1990] to 79% [2002].
Some challenges
BUT sanitation improvements are slow in LDCs, it is projected that by 2015, 2.4billion people worldwide will still be having no access to proper sanitation facilities.
Some developmental goals such as gender equality and empowering women is very slow as this involves change in mindsets and culture.
Combating diseases AIDS and Malaria are still slow.
Different countries are progressing at different speed. For example, China is fast developing but Sub-saharan Africa is still slow.
There is uneven development within the country in LDCs eg. China’s rural has very slow development but cities like Shanghai is progressing fast, leading to big income gap. [think – core periphery theory and multiplier effect]
