  1. Paintball Safety Script
  2.
  3. This is paintball.
  4. --
  5. An adrenaline packed extreme sport that has grown from a handful of players in the woods to a worldwide phenomenon spanning the globe.
  6. -
  7. Intense as it is, paintball is one of the safest sports to play and enjoy, as it is one of the few sports that takes the necessary precautions to protect its players from harm.
  8. ---
  9. In the United States there are 0.2 injuries per 100,000 exposures for paintball a year, giving it one of the lowest injury rates of any sport.
  10. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, paintball is safer than bowling.
  11. --
  12. Paintball markers are regularly checked for the rate speed of a paintball leaving the barrel. We use Feet Per Second (FPS) to measure this speed.
  13. -
  14. Depending on where you live, this ranges from as low as 170-300 feet per second.
  15. -
  16. Getting hit by a paintball can hurt, but it is designed to not cause any bodily harm other than a bruise or welt.
  17. --
  18. Paintball masks are required and strictly enforced at every field. Masks are designed to withstand the force created by the mass of a paintball traveling at speeds greater than 300 feet per second.
  19. --
  20. While off the field, the end of a marker’s barrel is always covered by a certified safety device, called a barrel sock. This ensures that if the marker is misfired off field it will not potentially cause an eye injury.
  21. --
  22. Competitive players wear knee and elbow pads to lessen impact on their joints while sliding or diving. Thick pants and jerseys are also common among competitive paintball players.
