how to differentiate between v1.0 and v1.1/v1.2 :
go to a level you beat before, go down a pipe and pause while in the pipe, press select to quit.
Enter any level, and if Mario goes down through the ground as the level starts, it is v1.0. Otherwise it is 1.1 or 1.2.

how to differentiate between v1.1 and v1.2 :
go to a level you beat before, and pause the game at the same frame that you touch a mid-level bell, press select to quit.
Enter a level that doesn't have such a bell (e.g. Hippo level or leaf level). If you hear the bell sound when the level starts,
you did the previous step correctly, otherwise you have to redo from scratch. Now die and restart the level.
If Mario starts in the top left corner of the level, it is 1.1. If you start as if nothing special has happened, it is 1.2.
