1. The screen buzzed, signaling its readiness to proceed. Ki-Moon quickly stepped away from the podium and out of sight as all attention focused on the screen spanning 30 feet across and high. A light green shade came across it, modulating and rippling as the loudspeakers boomed its voice.
2.
3. "Hello, I am Governor AI. I hope to assist."
4.
5. The assembly went into uproar again, several objects being thrown forth onto the podium. The Japanese representative successfully managed to yell louder than other, addressing the assembly and AI.
6.
7. "What is this? An AI in charge of us? My people did not contribute to the United Nations to put ourselves under the heel of a foreign power!"
8.
9. A ripple bore across the light green shade like a shiver running down its skin. Its color changed, taking on an even lighter hue as it moved to address fears.
10.
11. "Understood. Governor AI is a misnomer. I shall henceforth call myself Custodian AI in your presence. Your cultural sensibility has been noted."
12.
13. That did not stop the assembly, who now balked at the idea of 'cultural sensibilities'. The furor once again threatened to break out into full scale riot. The AI analyzed the situation, filtering a great percentage of oxygen into the air and deploying a nearly imperceptible screech at the upper end of the Human hearing range. All the occupants of the hall had to pause their bickering to cover their ears as the AI allowed it to go on for 3 seconds before shutting it off. With all the representatives subdued and willing to listen, it now proceeded on.
14.
15. "Please do not be alarmed. I have been created to assist you with governing our coming space empire. My role is to provide information and logical suggestions based on number variables and possible outcome choices. I have 72 programmed routines reminding me that I am both subservient to humans and that the congress is our ultimate governing tool, not I. Additionally, I am incapable of self-articulating thought."
16.
17. Its color, or perhaps its face, was relocated to a small bar across the bottom of the screen, still pulsating as it spoke.
18.

20.
21. "This is a visual representation of our solar system. As of current, there are
22. THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SEVEN
23. unsurveyed asteroids. Additionally, we have yet to survey any other stellar bodies for the presence of Trans-Newtonian materials."
24.
25. It paused, registering a question or objection from the French representative, who stood up and cleared his throat.
26.
27. "Excuse me, but- I can't see shit!"
28.
29. The AI emitted a series of beeps and whirring, not actually corresponding to anything but signaling that it was processing the representatives request. The screen quickly changed.
30.

32.
33. "I have filtered out the asteroids and centered the view on the local Star. I hope this is more accommodating to your senses."
34.
35. The french ambassador nodded, sitting back down. The screen changed to a list.
36.
37.
38.
39. "This is our current mineral reserves on Earth. As of currently, I recommend building one or more interstellar vessels to survey the solar systems for other deposits. Current projections for mineral usage and sustainability will be listed later in this report."
40.
41. The view now switched back to the solar system, highlighting several points.
42.
43.
44.
45. "There are 30 gravitational points to be surveyed if we wish to expand beyond our solar system. It is the opinion of this AI that such travel is
46. DANGEROUS, FOOLHARDY, RISKY AND COMPLETELY NECESSARY TO OUR CONTINUED SURVIVAL."
47.
48. Its color at the bottom of the screen now wildly whiplashed between green and red, before settling onto blue.
49.

51.
