  1. (07:07:25 AM) Cheeseness: Alrighty, going live. Let us know if don't see anything
  2. (07:07:28 AM) GameClubFan_340584 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  3. (07:07:29 AM) Cheeseness: That voice!
  4. (07:07:42 AM) Northensnow [5d3a2d98@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  5. (07:07:46 AM) unf: Ah, the Dan Brown of p.a.c. adventures
  6. (07:07:50 AM) yama: Cheeseness, you have a very female voice this week. :o
  7. (07:07:55 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  8. (07:07:58 AM) Cheeseness: That's Mim ^_^
  9. (07:08:10 AM) Cheeseness: OK, so I hadn't played this game before. Mim and I have been working through over the past week
  10. (07:08:11 AM) yama: Nice voice. :D
  11. (07:08:33 AM) Mimness: Shout at Cheese if it seems out of sync at all
  12. (07:08:37 AM) GameClubFan_338063 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  13. (07:08:37 AM) Northensnow: 'evening, or morning, or anything else!
  14. (07:08:47 AM) Cheeseness: It's interesting to note that all this first stuff with Nico at the beginning is new. I can't imagine how I'd see the game without it - it feels like Nico adds some really welcome breaks from George
  15. (07:08:47 AM) Dubblix [ad43b591@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  16. (07:08:52 AM) Cheeseness: Hey Northensnow
  17. (07:08:57 AM) GameClubFan_859315 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  18. (07:09:08 AM) Dubblix: I liked this series, but the brain teasers in an adventure game always leave me a little annoyed
  19. (07:09:33 AM) Cheeseness: How's the stream, people?
  20. (07:09:34 AM) AlexVSharp [b294b262@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  21. (07:09:40 AM) Dubblix: Sexy
  22. (07:09:43 AM) Naron: Working great here
  23. (07:09:46 AM) Cheeseness: Hey AlexVSharp
  24. (07:09:46 AM) yama: Stream looks good.
  25. (07:09:46 AM) foboman: fine
  26. (07:09:48 AM) Northensnow: Pretty good
  27. (07:09:50 AM) elif_zibumi: great here :)
  28. (07:09:56 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I am changing over to twitch
  29. (07:10:02 AM) Syd: Quick reminder: this game is available in the current Humble Bundle if you beat the average.
  30. (07:10:06 AM) Cheeseness: Can anybody tell us whether this intro is new for the Directors' Cut?
  31. (07:10:12 AM) Northensnow: Yes it is
  32. (07:10:15 AM) Cheeseness: http://humblebundle.com
  33. (07:10:16 AM) Dubblix: It doesn't look familiar
  34. (07:10:19 AM) Dubblix: So I think so
  35. (07:10:23 AM) Northensnow: the original one started with George at the bar
  36. (07:10:33 AM) Cheeseness: Northensnow: Did the original have any kind of intro?
  37. (07:10:36 AM) unf: Stobbart > Langdon?
  38. (07:10:47 AM) Naron: This game is also available on gog.com as part of the current #noDRM sale
  39. (07:10:50 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I love the comic art style
  40. (07:10:58 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, it's pretty sweet :D
  41. (07:11:00 AM) Northensnow: Yes, it should be in this version as well after this part
  42. (07:11:05 AM) Syd: Never trust mimes
  43. (07:11:32 AM) foboman: Aspecially the totally evil-looking ones.
  44. (07:11:37 AM) foboman: Especially*
  45. (07:11:40 AM) Syd: They silently plot your demise
  46. (07:11:48 AM) Dubblix: I'm not positive I played this one. I have 2 and 3. It's driving me crazy trying to remember
  47. (07:11:51 AM) Northensnow: Silently indeed
  48. (07:11:54 AM) elif_zibumi: They put this intro in App Store version too btw
  49. (07:11:56 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I dont trust the mime
  50. (07:12:01 AM) Syd: Of course a mime would use a silencer. :P
  51. (07:12:06 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  52. (07:12:48 AM) Dubblix: lol best mime ever
  53. (07:12:50 AM) Northensnow: They heard that silenced shot all the same
  54. (07:13:06 AM) Cheeseness: I love how she's not suspicious of the mime at all
  55. (07:13:21 AM) Dubblix: Plot twist: it WAS suicide
  56. (07:13:26 AM) foboman: One thing I don't actually like about this version are the 3D animated sprites, they look so wooden.
  57. (07:13:28 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Its the gameplay saved or is Mim playing live ?
  58. (07:13:28 AM) elif_zibumi: :)
  59. (07:13:31 AM) Dubblix: The mime just panicked
  60. (07:13:35 AM) Syd: She's playing live
  61. (07:13:59 AM) salamanderrake [474a88f2@hide-B64552F4.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  62. (07:14:03 AM) Cheeseness: Hey rake
  63. (07:14:05 AM) unf left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  64. (07:14:29 AM) salamanderrake: hello
  65. (07:14:32 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: This part is just a cutscene then ?
  66. (07:14:42 AM) Syd: No, it's interactive
  67. (07:14:54 AM) salamanderrake: the beginning is now its interactive
  68. (07:14:58 AM) Cheeseness: This part is interactive. The cutscene ended with Nico waking up
  69. (07:15:05 AM) Cheeseness: (after being mimepunched
  70. (07:15:17 AM) salamanderrake: )
  71. (07:15:17 AM) Dubblix: haha I want to use that word now
  72. (07:15:20 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  73. (07:15:22 AM) Cheeseness: Ha, Mim
  74. (07:15:24 AM) Dubblix: "Mimepunched"
  75. (07:15:26 AM) elif_zibumi: oh boy
  76. (07:15:28 AM) elif_zibumi: :)
  77. (07:15:32 AM) AlexVSharp: Cheese... -__-
  78. (07:15:35 AM) Syd: Heh, indecisive
  79. (07:15:42 AM) Cheeseness: AlexVSharp: Tired?
  80. (07:15:45 AM) Northensnow: Mr. Mime used punch. It was super effective!
  81. (07:15:51 AM) Northensnow: Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  82. (07:15:52 AM) Cheeseness: Syd: I think she just likes playing with corpses :b
  83. (07:15:58 AM) Naron: Zing
  84. (07:16:05 AM) Cheeseness: A wild mime appeared!
  85. (07:16:15 AM) Syd: I love the mental image of her sitting there opening and closing his eyes over and over again
  86. (07:16:17 AM) Dubblix: Prude
  87. (07:16:23 AM) yama: Why didn't he make the hole closer to the door handle?
  88. (07:16:24 AM) Cheeseness: I like that she likes to keep her DNA to herself, but has no problems with getting her fingerprints all over crime scenes
  89. (07:16:28 AM) yama: *window handle
  90. (07:16:33 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I dont think cheese wants to be mimpunched
  91. (07:16:37 AM) Cheeseness: Syd: That was half an hour worth of our first playthrough
  92. (07:16:38 AM) AlexVSharp: Heh. Monkey Island reference.
  93. (07:16:49 AM) Syd: lol :D
  94. (07:16:57 AM) Naron: Is the game set in 90's Paris?
  95. (07:17:08 AM) Northensnow: Yes, at first
  96. (07:17:10 AM) yama: Funny how I just last night watched a video about cutting glass. :o
  97. (07:17:17 AM) Northensnow: at first in Paris, I mean
  98. (07:17:20 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: nice to see graphics were upgraded
  99. (07:17:32 AM) elif_zibumi: are you also getting ads??
  100. (07:17:43 AM) Northensnow: Above the chat? Yes
  101. (07:17:50 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I guess original game resolution should have been along 640x480
  102. (07:17:58 AM) Syd: I, erm, have ads blocked. :P
  103. (07:18:01 AM) Cheeseness: The_Mad_Pirate: We're streaming at 640x480 :D
  104. (07:18:19 AM) elif_zibumi: no, i just had a break from the game and had to watch some local ads... :/
  105. (07:18:20 AM) Cheeseness: elif_zibumi: If you mean in the stream, that randomly happens from time to time. Unfortunately Twitch isn't ad-free
  106. (07:18:37 AM) Cheeseness: But it seems to happen to watchers individually rather than for everyone
  107. (07:18:37 AM) elif_zibumi: oh ok thnx
  108. (07:18:50 AM) Cheeseness: lol
  109. (07:18:51 AM) Naron: I hate it when websites make me feel guilty for using ad blocks..
  110. (07:19:01 AM) elif_zibumi left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  111. (07:19:02 AM) Dubblix: First World Problems
  112. (07:19:11 AM) Dubblix: I think I should buy the rest of Humble Bundle
  113. (07:19:14 AM) elif_zibumi [4ea2e341@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  114. (07:19:19 AM) Dubblix: I dont own this one and I might as well
  115. (07:19:22 AM) Cheeseness: Dubblix: Do it :D
  116. (07:19:30 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Cheeesenes LOL !
  117. (07:19:49 AM) Dubblix: I won't be able to stay for the whole stream anyway
  118. (07:20:00 AM) Cheeseness: In case there's anybody who doesn't know, this game is in the current Humble Bundle for Linux, Mac and Windows. Mim's streaming the Linux version at the moment ^_^
  119. (07:21:26 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I bet his wife plotted to get him murdered
  120. (07:21:51 AM) Cheeseness: So, is the interface different from the original at all?
  121. (07:21:55 AM) Syd_ [ae3545dc@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  122. (07:22:02 AM) Northensnow: A bit, yes
  123. (07:22:10 AM) foboman: It's similar, but little different.
  124. (07:22:12 AM) Dubblix: Done
  125. (07:22:15 AM) Syd_: My doppelganger was keeping me from reconnecting.
  126. (07:22:28 AM) Northensnow: in the original the inventory and the dialogue options were all in the lower black bar, which was thinner
  127. (07:22:34 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: the original one used verbs ?
  128. (07:22:42 AM) foboman: Guess they had to make it more "touch friedly" as the game is out on tablets and phones.
  129. (07:22:45 AM) Northensnow: no, it was all mouse driven
  130. (07:22:48 AM) foboman: No, no verbs.
  131. (07:22:54 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, OK. And the animated action icons are new as well?
  132. (07:23:01 AM) foboman: No
  133. (07:23:14 AM) Syd left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  134. (07:23:16 AM) foboman: But if can say it they looked animated better in the old version.
  135. (07:23:31 AM) Syd_ is now known as Syd
  136. (07:23:56 AM) Cheeseness: Interesting
  137. (07:24:13 AM) foboman: The inventory wasn't an icon but a bar on the top of the screen.
  138. (07:24:22 AM) Northensnow: In the original versions there were no portraits either, except during specific parts (like phone calls)
  139. (07:24:28 AM) foboman: It appeared when you hovered the mouse there.
  140. (07:24:31 AM) ryst [450eb45b@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  141. (07:24:40 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Cheese , do you guys ever played "Legends of Kirandia" ?
  142. (07:24:41 AM) foboman: There was no journal and no hints.
  143. (07:24:50 AM) foboman: I played Legends of Kyrandia.
  144. (07:24:55 AM) Cheeseness: The_Mad_Pirate: Nope! ^_^
  145. (07:24:58 AM) foboman: All the three of them.
  146. (07:25:15 AM) foboman: Whops, thought it was a general question ,sorryt
  147. (07:25:21 AM) yama: I've played the Kyrandia games, too. ^^
  148. (07:25:58 AM) yama: Bought the box with all three games way back. :)
  149. (07:26:02 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: The third one is totally genius
  150. (07:26:21 AM) Northensnow: I completely forgot about those games, I only started the first one
  151. (07:26:23 AM) yama: Because there's a mime in it? ;)
  152. (07:26:35 AM) Cheeseness: I really dig the art style in this. The inconsistency of character portrait animations is a little distracting though
  153. (07:26:49 AM) Northensnow: Yes, it really is
  154. (07:27:29 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: At least they keep the comic style consistent
  155. (07:27:31 AM) Cheeseness: Oh, and the voice recording quality changes dramatically once we get out of this first Nico bit (and get back to stuff from the original game)
  156. (07:27:34 AM) yama: I like how the music changed when she found the elephant. :o
  157. (07:27:51 AM) Cheeseness: Should we take the elephant?
  158. (07:27:52 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: althougth backgrounds are do a little bit inconsistent
  159. (07:28:07 AM) Northensnow: Having the original version in mind it's incredibly jarring, especially when you think about the parts with portraits
  160. (07:29:29 AM) Northensnow: About the elephant, I can't remember: I only played the Director's Cut once.
  161. (07:29:45 AM) Northensnow: Well, there you go.
  162. (07:29:46 AM) Cheeseness: I think it's optional
  163. (07:29:58 AM) Cheeseness: Mim was asking whether the channel wanted to leave it or take it ^_^
  164. (07:30:15 AM) foboman: There is to say that I played the original and this in Italian, with the italian dub, and there's not much difference if not for George's parts, as for the old ones they used the old recordings and for the new ones they used another voice, so it's quite strange.
  165. (07:30:26 AM) elif_zibumi: if you make a mess you take an elephant... i guess
  166. (07:30:49 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hmmmm Twin artifacts are kinda common on french belgian adventure stories
  167. (07:32:07 AM) yama: That symbol again. :o
  168. (07:32:08 AM) Northensnow: Ah, these background noises... so nostalgic. Especially the birds.
  169. (07:32:50 AM) Cheeseness: Puzzles, yay!
  170. (07:32:56 AM) Cheeseness: Sliding puzzles no less
  171. (07:33:05 AM) yama: Weren't we talking about sliding puzzles the other day?
  172. (07:33:05 AM) foboman: Hell I hate this kind of puzzles.
  173. (07:33:30 AM) foboman: It took a lot of time out of me. I'm just not good with them.
  174. (07:33:46 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I remember a sliding puzzle on "Shadow of the Comet" .. man .. I hated that puzzle
  175. (07:34:04 AM) Syd: I've played too much Professor Layton to not be able to do these puzzles now. :P
  176. (07:34:07 AM) Northensnow: I remember the Professor Layton series, and then I don't sleep at night.
  177. (07:34:38 AM) Cheeseness: These ones aren't too hard. I think they're a nice change of pace from the dialogue heavy beginning
  178. (07:34:46 AM) Northensnow: This kind of puzzle is a weird addition to Broken Sword
  179. (07:35:09 AM) Cheeseness: Ha, I think Mim is confusing herself :D
  180. (07:35:10 AM) foboman: At least they're better then the boxes puzzles in the third...
  181. (07:35:19 AM) yama: Yeah. She almost had the solution.
  182. (07:35:29 AM) Northensnow: Or the stealth sections.
  183. (07:35:37 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Sierra had a kid's series with logical puzzles , Hanoi Tower and such
  184. (07:36:44 AM) ryst left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  185. (07:36:46 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I read somewhere the puzzles in "Gabriel Knight 3" had no sense at all.
  186. (07:36:51 AM) yama: Heheh. This reminds me of Ron Gilbert's comments when Alphatt, or whoever, was playing The Cave. ^^:
  187. (07:37:08 AM) ***yama claps its hands. :D
  188. (07:37:13 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  189. (07:37:34 AM) Northensnow: Since I learned how to solve the Hanoi Tower puzzle with a recursive algorithm in Java, I can't see it the same way anymore.
  190. (07:37:41 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  191. (07:38:00 AM) foboman: Just imagine the guys using this place going by those two puzzles every single tim.
  192. (07:38:16 AM) Cheeseness: heh
  193. (07:38:26 AM) salamanderrake: left right
  194. (07:38:31 AM) Cheeseness: up up down down left right left right b a b a select start
  195. (07:38:32 AM) Northensnow: I shiver at the thought of the puzzle that locks the restroom.
  196. (07:38:46 AM) yama: Nice that they show the letters in the icon.
  197. (07:38:59 AM) elif_zibumi: I love how she is so dramatic all the time :)
  198. (07:39:00 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Lol !
  199. (07:39:26 AM) Cheeseness: How does she know what safe tumlbers feel like?
  200. (07:39:28 AM) foboman: In Italian this puzzle was incredibily clear as Sinister and Dexter are "Sinistra" and "Destra".
  201. (07:39:34 AM) Cheeseness: Sounds like Nico does more than just journalism
  202. (07:39:54 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: @Cheese : Does Mim plays the entire adventure during the week in order to prepare herself ?
  203. (07:40:01 AM) Northensnow: She sure loves satisfying clicks.
  204. (07:40:15 AM) Cheeseness: I normally recommend to our streamers that they play it ahead of time like everybody else
  205. (07:41:07 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Its the best way
  206. (07:41:32 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: you guys already played "The Dig" ?
  207. (07:41:38 AM) Cheeseness: Nope, not yet :D
  208. (07:41:47 AM) foboman: That's a good one.
  209. (07:41:54 AM) yama: In the 90's, I played The Dig. :D
  210. (07:41:56 AM) Cheeseness: We were thinking of doing it during our bunch of "Remembering LucasArts" streams
  211. (07:42:00 AM) foboman: Well, they're all good.
  212. (07:42:15 AM) Cheeseness: But we ended up doing something else that we'd nabbed a dev for IIRC
  213. (07:42:24 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: and shorter than "Grim Fandango" XP
  214. (07:43:05 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: IIRC "Grim Fandango" should be something like 6 or 7 hours of straigth gameplay.
  215. (07:43:12 AM) salamanderrake: is any of the LucasArts games going opensource?
  216. (07:43:24 AM) Cheeseness: I don't think so
  217. (07:43:37 AM) foboman: Now that they're in Disney's grasps it seems pretty impossible.
  218. (07:43:42 AM) Cheeseness: The Jedi Outcast/Academy thing was unique in that it was based on an engine that was already open source
  219. (07:43:51 AM) Cheeseness: And Raven were an external company
  220. (07:43:54 AM) Dubblix left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  221. (07:44:04 AM) Northensnow: The audio is a bit out of sync, is it just me?
  222. (07:44:23 AM) Cheeseness: How far out is it? It's possible it might get a little out over time
  223. (07:44:31 AM) yama: The text appears before the sound on my end.
  224. (07:44:35 AM) elif_zibumi: It's also a bit out here too
  225. (07:44:41 AM) yama: Also, the footsteps last even after she has stopped walking.
  226. (07:44:42 AM) foboman: At least 3 seconds.
  227. (07:44:44 AM) Cheeseness: If it gets really bad, we can stop and start the stream to clear it up
  228. (07:45:12 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Le fleur du liz
  229. (07:45:30 AM) GameClubFan_291969 [18c8d602@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  230. (07:46:03 AM) Cheeseness: Let me know if/when you guys think it's worth fixing up the sound sync
  231. (07:46:15 AM) GameClubFan_291969 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  232. (07:46:24 AM) elif_zibumi: not a big problem here yet :)
  233. (07:46:24 AM) yama: It doesn't really bother me. The game is kinda slow anyway. ^^:
  234. (07:46:27 AM) Northensnow: It's not that annoying
  235. (07:46:46 AM) Cheeseness: Alrighty :)
  236. (07:46:54 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Twitch audio system is also kinda weird
  237. (07:47:08 AM) Cheeseness: You could try stopping and starting the stream if you want
  238. (07:47:16 AM) salamanderrake: they need to support linux better thats all
  239. (07:47:17 AM) Cheeseness: But I've got a hunch it's out of sync from our end
  240. (07:47:24 AM) salamanderrake: what app is he useing for streaming?
  241. (07:47:34 AM) Cheeseness: She's using ffmpeg via rtmp
  242. (07:47:42 AM) salamanderrake: oh sorry she
  243. (07:48:05 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: are those stone cylinders like the stone discs on "Indyana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" ?
  244. (07:48:08 AM) Northensnow: Those "back" and "refresh" buttons on the page are a bit jarring
  245. (07:48:19 AM) Cheeseness: It's what I usually use. Unfortunately we've had a pretty full week and haven't quite tuned the quality settings as much as I usually would
  246. (07:48:33 AM) Cheeseness: (that has a big impact on how well sound stays in sync, I've found)
  247. (07:49:15 AM) salamanderrake: can you lower the sound quality a bit also?
  248. (07:49:24 AM) salamanderrake: or better compression
  249. (07:49:48 AM) salamanderrake: if they would get glc working that would help the linux community with streaming video
  250. (07:50:05 AM) salamanderrake: as it stands now there are a lot of loops to get the audio going with the stream
  251. (07:50:30 AM) Cheeseness: Audio quality's already pretty low
  252. (07:50:53 AM) Cheeseness: Doesn't help that our interwebs are slow :b
  253. (07:51:03 AM) Northensnow: Wow, I just found the most annoying ad. It's flashing white and green right above the chat, it almost hurts my eyes.
  254. (07:51:13 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I wonder if this game had a well reception on Germany
  255. (07:51:21 AM) salamanderrake: *a lot of loop you need to jump to get the audio working in glc streaming
  256. (07:51:24 AM) Cheeseness: Northensnow: adblock for the win
  257. (07:51:33 AM) salamanderrake: I see no adds
  258. (07:51:45 AM) salamanderrake: **loops
  259. (07:51:56 AM) Cheeseness: salamanderrake: Yeah. I've used GLC a few times. It's more effort than it's worth for the stuff I do at the moment though, I think
  260. (07:51:59 AM) Northensnow: I deactivated it because I was afraid it would interfere, and now I don't feel like refreshing
  261. (07:52:14 AM) AlexVSharp left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  262. (07:52:23 AM) Cheeseness: Northensnow: This is a normal IRC channel - if you're keen you can join without using the chat widget on the stream page
  263. (07:52:23 AM) Northensnow left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  264. (07:52:26 AM) AlexVSharp [b294b262@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  265. (07:52:46 AM) Northensnow [5d3a2d98@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  266. (07:52:56 AM) Cheeseness: It's #DFAdventure on irc.foonetic.net if you want to join from a proper IRC client
  267. (07:52:59 AM) Northensnow: Much better
  268. (07:53:19 AM) salamanderrake: Cheeseness: there was a guy who started a glc2 but it has gone no where.
  269. (07:53:26 AM) Cheeseness: salamanderrake: Yeah
  270. (07:53:39 AM) Northensnow: I'm not kidding, my eyes hurt. I wish I could kill who made that ad.
  271. (07:53:41 AM) Cheeseness: glc on its own isn't going to help much
  272. (07:53:41 AM) foboman: And here we go with the original intro.
  273. (07:53:48 AM) salamanderrake: no
  274. (07:53:49 AM) Northensnow: This is where the original game begins
  275. (07:53:57 AM) salamanderrake: a better option would be nice
  276. (07:54:03 AM) Cheeseness: Once front ends like Open Broadcaster are up, that'll help
  277. (07:54:30 AM) Northensnow: It's a bit different, though
  278. (07:54:32 AM) Cheeseness: Ah, George
  279. (07:54:38 AM) Cheeseness: I find him pretty irritating >_<
  280. (07:54:38 AM) AlexVSharp left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  281. (07:54:46 AM) Cheeseness: Northensnow: In what ways is it different?
  282. (07:55:11 AM) Northensnow: There was a monologue over a scene with a raven flying over Paris
  283. (07:55:26 AM) Naron left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  284. (07:55:33 AM) foboman: The original was fully animated like a cartoon, in this one there's some "flash-like" animations.
  285. (07:55:33 AM) Northensnow: Like the one with Nico, but it was him talking
  286. (07:55:40 AM) Naron [5858f839@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  287. (07:55:44 AM) Cheeseness: Ah, OK
  288. (07:55:45 AM) Cheeseness: Interesting!
  289. (07:55:54 AM) Northensnow: The newspaper was never shown like this either
  290. (07:55:56 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: if its in english
  291. (07:55:57 AM) foboman: Oh God the differences between old and new dubbing.
  292. (07:56:12 AM) foboman: Now, this is something I really don't like.
  293. (07:56:17 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: probablities says you should replace the most numerous symbol with an "E"
  294. (07:56:19 AM) foboman: Censorship.
  295. (07:56:24 AM) AlexVSharp [b294b262@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  296. (07:56:37 AM) foboman: Anyone knows why they censored the corpse?
  297. (07:56:54 AM) Cheeseness: Was it more graphic in the original?
  298. (07:57:04 AM) foboman: Yes.
  299. (07:57:20 AM) elif_zibumi: Can it be to get a lower age rating?
  300. (07:57:30 AM) Cheeseness: Doesn't feel like it would significantly add a lot to the game in this scene
  301. (07:57:34 AM) foboman: There was no zoom on the mirror, and in this exact screen you could see the whole body, pretty medded up.
  302. (07:57:37 AM) foboman: messed*
  303. (07:57:38 AM) Northensnow: Since they also removed all death instances, I guess so.
  304. (07:58:29 AM) foboman: And if I remember correctly when a certain guy gets smashed by a car further on in the original cutscene he was bleeding while in this one he's not.
  305. (07:58:52 AM) Cheeseness: Interesting
  306. (07:59:00 AM) Cheeseness: Are future games in the series less graphic?
  307. (07:59:01 AM) ryst [450eb45b@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  308. (07:59:34 AM) Northensnow: The third one has some violent parts, I haven't played the fourth one.
  309. (07:59:35 AM) elif_zibumi: Blood is a rating criteria. They probably want a wider audience.
  310. (07:59:36 AM) Cheeseness: (I could understand a desire to get more consistency between them all if there were a lot of difference)
  311. (07:59:45 AM) foboman: The second one is better, graphically, in every aspect.
  312. (07:59:57 AM) Northensnow: the second one has a Mayan priest ripping a beating heart from a man's chest
  313. (08:00:01 AM) Northensnow: I love this joke
  314. (08:00:04 AM) Cheeseness: Nice
  315. (08:00:25 AM) foboman: The third one is not very graphic, but it's kinda more related to the shifting to 3D.
  316. (08:00:35 AM) Cheeseness: foboman: I meant graphic in a visual-representations-of-violence/gore sense ^_^
  317. (08:00:57 AM) foboman: I corrected myself for the last comment. xD
  318. (08:01:14 AM) Cheeseness: ^_^
  319. (08:01:42 AM) foboman: The fourth one is... well, it's not very violent at all.
  320. (08:02:02 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Specially if their are now aiming at touch devices
  321. (08:03:36 AM) Cheeseness: She camouflages in well
  322. (08:03:40 AM) foboman: There in the original the Inspector actually tried reading the mind.
  323. (08:03:46 AM) Northensnow: Being used to the Italian voice acting, this all sounds so weird.
  324. (08:04:16 AM) foboman: Don't know why they cut that out, maybe only to make it lighter.
  325. (08:04:16 AM) Cheeseness: All the accents sound a little off to me
  326. (08:04:28 AM) elif_zibumi: Aw we are witnessing history... First time they've met...
  327. (08:04:28 AM) elif_zibumi: :)
  328. (08:04:34 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  329. (08:04:54 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I allways thougth the blond guy was the protagonist
  330. (08:05:00 AM) foboman: He is.
  331. (08:05:00 AM) Northensnow: He is
  332. (08:05:03 AM) elif_zibumi: he is
  333. (08:05:16 AM) Cheeseness: Nico wasn't playable in the original, apparently
  334. (08:05:48 AM) Northensnow: The first time she was playable in the series was in the second game, only for some brief parts
  335. (08:06:04 AM) elif_zibumi: We play both of them in turns in the sequels, but George is the protagonist all the way. At least thats how I see the BS stories. :)
  336. (08:06:46 AM) foboman: I don't remember if you can use Nico in the fourth.
  337. (08:06:51 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Ohhh , I think making her playable in the remake is a great adition.
  338. (08:07:16 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, I think I'd have found it pretty hard to get into if it was just George
  339. (08:07:17 AM) elif_zibumi: There were parts with Nico on the fourth one, as I remember.
  340. (08:07:32 AM) foboman: At least it's easy to see what is totally new for the remake.
  341. (08:07:38 AM) AlexVSharp: Anybody know how I can get the sound and video synced?
  342. (08:07:53 AM) Cheeseness: AlexVSharp: We can stop and start the stream if it's bad. Problem is at our end
  343. (08:07:55 AM) foboman: You can't. It's like this for everybody.
  344. (08:07:59 AM) Northensnow: I don't know, being used to the original, the parts with Nico feel tacked on and unnatural.
  345. (08:08:18 AM) elif_zibumi: Actually there were great scenes in the fourth one where their separate timelines meet. I loved those moments.
  346. (08:08:24 AM) Cheeseness: Did the original show much of Nico beyond George's interactions with her?
  347. (08:08:28 AM) foboman: Now I remember.
  348. (08:08:32 AM) elif_zibumi: :)
  349. (08:08:56 AM) Northensnow: No, but her role in the story was still pretty important
  350. (08:09:06 AM) foboman: No it didn't. You actually pass much of the game only talking to her in her apartment.
  351. (08:09:11 AM) Cheeseness: lol, this guy >_<
  352. (08:09:35 AM) foboman: "Much of the game" as "much of their interaction in the game"
  353. (08:09:47 AM) Cheeseness: Alrighty, we're going to stop and start the stream. Don't panic
  354. (08:10:02 AM) Northensnow: (panic)
  355. (08:10:08 AM) elif_zibumi: :D
  356. (08:10:13 AM) Cheeseness: It was in sync to start with though, right?
  357. (08:10:28 AM) elif_zibumi: I was ignorable, but it got worse
  358. (08:11:00 AM) Northensnow: Ok, now it's perfect
  359. (08:11:01 AM) Cheeseness: Should be back up now
  360. (08:11:04 AM) elif_zibumi: great
  361. (08:11:05 AM) Cheeseness: Good good :)
  362. (08:11:09 AM) foboman: Perfect
  363. (08:11:29 AM) Northensnow: This is so nostalgic ;_;
  364. (08:11:35 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: according to wikipoedia the original one start with the explosion at the cafe
  365. (08:11:51 AM) Babar: isn't that how this starts?
  366. (08:12:12 AM) foboman: No, this one has a prequel part with Nico at Carchon's house.
  367. (08:12:15 AM) Babar: (sorry if I missed the beginning. Streams seems to be off)
  368. (08:12:19 AM) Babar: oh
  369. (08:12:21 AM) Babar: is it any good?
  370. (08:12:26 AM) foboman: It's interesting.
  371. (08:12:35 AM) Northensnow: Very diplomatic
  372. (08:12:35 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: LOL Now I get the "why" of the comic style !!!
  373. (08:13:00 AM) Babar: well, it was hi-res. They either went this, or went "realistic"
  374. (08:13:04 AM) Babar: but what do you mean?
  375. (08:13:12 AM) foboman: I'm actually very happy they're back with this style for the fifth.
  376. (08:13:17 AM) Cheeseness: Hey Babar
  377. (08:13:21 AM) elif_zibumi: It started at the cafe, but I remember we had more dilagues before the explosion... or was it the second game? Anyone remember?
  378. (08:13:23 AM) Babar: Hey Cheese!
  379. (08:13:28 AM) kickedit [638b404b@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  380. (08:13:34 AM) Babar: there was a small conversation with some old man
  381. (08:13:38 AM) Babar: if I remember correctly
  382. (08:13:45 AM) Cheeseness: Mmm, yummy
  383. (08:13:46 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Dave Gibbons ( of "V for Vendetta" fame) did the artwork.
  384. (08:13:47 AM) elif_zibumi: yeah, thats what I remember
  385. (08:13:55 AM) Northensnow: Dave Gibbons did Watchmen
  386. (08:14:09 AM) Babar: he did BaSS too!
  387. (08:14:13 AM) Northensnow: David Lloyd did V
  388. (08:14:36 AM) Cheeseness: Nobody wants to touch George's hands >_<
  389. (08:14:36 AM) Cheeseness: '
  390. (08:14:42 AM) Naron: Is that a 2CV in the background!
  391. (08:14:51 AM) Northensnow: There's a reason for that.
  392. (08:15:07 AM) elif_zibumi: @Cheeseness Oh you dont like him at all do you
  393. (08:15:08 AM) Northensnow: Somebody will regret shaking his hand
  394. (08:15:46 AM) Cheeseness: elif_zibumi: No, I hate him, but I find it amusing that nobody wants to touch him (you get the opportunity to try shaking hands with everybody a bit later)
  395. (08:15:57 AM) elif_zibumi: :)
  396. (08:16:21 AM) foboman: Why all the hate? He's a pretty cool guy.
  397. (08:16:24 AM) elif_zibumi: Have you played Gabriel Knight? I wonder if you like Gabe?
  398. (08:16:36 AM) Babar: the protagonist of this game?
  399. (08:16:40 AM) Babar: I don't quite like him either :D
  400. (08:16:46 AM) Babar: what is with the weird dialog portraits
  401. (08:16:48 AM) Babar: I don't remember those
  402. (08:16:51 AM) elif_zibumi: Oh come on :D
  403. (08:16:53 AM) Babar: is it part of the new thing?
  404. (08:16:55 AM) Cheeseness: I haven't played Gabriel Knight, sorry
  405. (08:16:55 AM) Northensnow: They weren't in the original
  406. (08:17:04 AM) foboman: Now Gabriel IS a douche.
  407. (08:17:07 AM) Babar: Gabriel Knight was goofy
  408. (08:17:25 AM) elif_zibumi: Oh man... Ok, I love them all... :)
  409. (08:17:33 AM) foboman: Great, you rememberd me we're still not going to have a GK4. THANKS.
  410. (08:17:41 AM) Babar: he climbed up a ladder to look at boobs
  411. (08:17:46 AM) Babar: kind of goofy
  412. (08:17:51 AM) elif_zibumi: But he is a douche, I'll give you that.
  413. (08:17:54 AM) Babar: :D
  414. (08:18:18 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I kinda preffer the "Phantasmagoria" titles
  415. (08:18:29 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: both of them extremelly gore
  416. (08:18:46 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: but at least the first one is easy enough
  417. (08:18:52 AM) Babar: FMpoooo
  418. (08:19:30 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I thougth Jane Hensen tried to kickstart a Gabriel Knight 4 ...
  419. (08:19:36 AM) elif_zibumi: I love how they put weird things in George's pockets in the series and you struggle if you should ask about the item or not. :)
  420. (08:19:43 AM) Babar: she kickstarted a studio
  421. (08:19:55 AM) Northensnow: Remember the piece of coal from BS2?
  422. (08:19:56 AM) foboman: No, it wasn't GK4.
  423. (08:19:56 AM) elif_zibumi: The_Mad_Pirate nope, another game
  424. (08:20:00 AM) Babar: I don't think she owns the rights to Gabriel Knight
  425. (08:20:10 AM) elif_zibumi: Northensnow Yes :)
  426. (08:20:11 AM) foboman: Exactly.
  427. (08:20:18 AM) Cheeseness: There are a lot of long dialogue sequences in this game
  428. (08:20:39 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Ohhh so Activision must own the IP then
  429. (08:20:42 AM) Cheeseness: I don't mind them, but it stands out against most of the more modern stuff we've played
  430. (08:21:02 AM) Babar: this voice acting is really annoying in some points
  431. (08:21:10 AM) foboman: And if Activision has it it's screwed.
  432. (08:21:21 AM) Babar: hey they shared KQ for a bit!
  433. (08:21:30 AM) foboman: I actually don't mind long dialogue sequences.
  434. (08:21:33 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: IIRC Sierra was sold to Activision on 1999
  435. (08:21:42 AM) foboman: If they're well written, of course.
  436. (08:21:48 AM) Northensnow: This is a part where you could see the portraits in the original as well
  437. (08:21:48 AM) salamanderrake: bb Cheeseness restarting kde
  438. (08:22:06 AM) salamanderrake left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  439. (08:22:22 AM) foboman: But there was a different art direction.
  440. (08:22:23 AM) elif_zibumi: Well it used to be like that, long dialogues... I haven't seen them for a while, until The Whispered World... It was torture.
  441. (08:22:24 AM) Cheeseness: Oh, you can do this from any phone
  442. (08:22:35 AM) Cheeseness: We were at a different location when playing through earlier
  443. (08:22:43 AM) Cheeseness: (it was funny to call this guy from the police station :D )
  444. (08:23:03 AM) Northensnow: Yes, I usually used that phone as well
  445. (08:23:28 AM) salamanderrake [474a88f2@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  446. (08:23:38 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Yup , Activision it is
  447. (08:24:04 AM) foboman: And this part is new again.
  448. (08:24:09 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Activison acquired what left off Sierra when they bougth Vivendi
  449. (08:24:18 AM) Babar: she keeps confusing her french accent :D
  450. (08:24:47 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  451. (08:24:56 AM) Cheeseness: That answering machine voice makes me laugh
  452. (08:25:19 AM) Cheeseness: I love that you can't turn off the music here
  453. (08:25:32 AM) Cheeseness: Mim's shouting "Shut up!" at the game >_<
  454. (08:25:34 AM) Northensnow: LEAVE, QUICKLY
  455. (08:25:38 AM) elif_zibumi: :D
  456. (08:25:44 AM) elif_zibumi: we are doomed
  457. (08:25:48 AM) Northensnow: So THAT'S where that music was from
  458. (08:25:58 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I see a Mimpunch coming ...
  459. (08:26:02 AM) Northensnow: I downloaded the OST from GOG, and I had no idea where that song came from
  460. (08:26:10 AM) Cheeseness: The remote for the stereo must've been behind the lit of that chest
  461. (08:26:17 AM) Cheeseness: lid^
  462. (08:26:19 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: oh my god ... Cheese is about to get mimpunched !
  463. (08:26:27 AM) Cheeseness: D:
  464. (08:26:53 AM) Cheeseness: Terrance, save me!
  465. (08:27:26 AM) elif_zibumi: Got the boyfriend issue?
  466. (08:27:39 AM) Babar: shouldn't she speak french with french people?
  467. (08:28:05 AM) Northensnow: Shouldn't she speak french to herself as well?
  468. (08:28:07 AM) The_Mad_Pirate left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  469. (08:28:12 AM) elif_zibumi: :D
  470. (08:28:22 AM) Cheeseness: The_Mad_Pirate was mimpunched from the channel
  471. (08:28:37 AM) foboman: Things happens.
  472. (08:28:48 AM) Northensnow: This map also looks different
  473. (08:28:50 AM) Cheeseness: Is the map the same as it was in the original game?
  474. (08:28:52 AM) Cheeseness: Ha
  475. (08:29:19 AM) Babar: you can't meet George randomly where you left him?
  476. (08:29:21 AM) Northensnow: Super Mario is working on the bar, I see
  477. (08:29:30 AM) foboman: It was green in the original one. It looked more realistic and very little cartoonish.
  478. (08:29:49 AM) Cheeseness: That humorless inspector fellow is Luigi
  479. (08:29:51 AM) foboman: I'm talking about the map, not Mario.
  480. (08:30:05 AM) Cheeseness: People touch people for a loan? o.0
  481. (08:30:20 AM) Babar: if it works, why not? :D
  482. (08:30:46 AM) GameClubFan_302483 [547001a7@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  483. (08:30:54 AM) Cheeseness: Enhance!
  484. (08:31:19 AM) Northensnow: And that's why they added the mirror
  485. (08:31:32 AM) Cheeseness: So that we could zoom in on it and enhance the freflection?
  486. (08:31:38 AM) Babar: :D
  487. (08:31:53 AM) Northensnow: Apparently
  488. (08:32:11 AM) Babar: wait...is she narrating in the past tense?
  489. (08:32:20 AM) linc left the room (quit: Ping timeout: 180 seconds).
  490. (08:32:25 AM) yama: Why is this not auto-translated?
  491. (08:32:28 AM) salamanderrake: is that klingon?
  492. (08:32:34 AM) elif_zibumi: I love returning to a place with a different character, if it's well written and surprising... Not that surprised with this one though. :/
  493. (08:32:37 AM) Babar: wut
  494. (08:32:39 AM) Babar: cheaaat
  495. (08:32:47 AM) foboman: They always narrate in past tense if recall correctly?
  496. (08:33:03 AM) Babar: so it has happened in the other games as well?
  497. (08:33:33 AM) ryst left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  498. (08:33:47 AM) foboman: The narration stuff? Yes.
  499. (08:33:57 AM) Babar: also, shouldn't this note be in french?
  500. (08:34:10 AM) tennyo [4b9e3739@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  501. (08:34:25 AM) Babar: also, also, this sort of code-breaking puzzle always seems out of place in such games. Not as if the first person who passes by won't be able to break it
  502. (08:34:32 AM) GameClubFan_302483 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  503. (08:34:32 AM) Babar: ...I should stop complaining :(
  504. (08:34:36 AM) Cheeseness: Be vigilant!
  505. (08:34:50 AM) elif_zibumi: :)
  506. (08:34:58 AM) foboman: God the new ending of BaSS... "BE VIGILANT"
  507. (08:35:00 AM) Babar: :D
  508. (08:35:02 AM) Babar: what
  509. (08:35:05 AM) Babar: was that new?
  510. (08:35:15 AM) Babar: new
  511. (08:35:17 AM) Babar: ?
  512. (08:35:25 AM) foboman: The animated ending, yes. The "be vigilant" catchphrase, no.
  513. (08:35:51 AM) Babar: but when was there any new version of BaSS?
  514. (08:36:05 AM) foboman: It's called BaSS Remastered.
  515. (08:36:11 AM) Babar: when?
  516. (08:36:26 AM) foboman: Some years ago.
  517. (08:36:44 AM) foboman: It's free on GOG
  518. (08:36:55 AM) Babar: ohhh
  519. (08:36:55 AM) Babar: no
  520. (08:36:59 AM) Babar: it is only for the iOS
  521. (08:37:01 AM) Babar: SUCK
  522. (08:37:17 AM) Babar: (the remastered version)
  523. (08:37:22 AM) Babar: BaSS is free everywhere
  524. (08:37:24 AM) Babar: ...else
  525. (08:37:44 AM) Northensnow: Is your nickname from that old cartoon with the elephants and so on?
  526. (08:38:08 AM) Babar: yes
  527. (08:38:13 AM) Babar: glad so many people remember that
  528. (08:38:18 AM) Babar: it is also my name, though
  529. (08:38:31 AM) Babar: oh dear
  530. (08:38:32 AM) Babar: not this puzzle
  531. (08:38:34 AM) Babar: oh dear :D
  532. (08:38:35 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  533. (08:38:41 AM) Cheeseness: It's not that bad
  534. (08:38:53 AM) Babar: yes it is!
  535. (08:39:27 AM) Cheeseness: We'll probably finish up for today after this Nico sequence
  536. (08:39:33 AM) linc [fredrik@hide-B4B0F4E6.se] entered the room.
  537. (08:39:37 AM) Babar: just in time
  538. (08:39:41 AM) Babar: started going out of synch now
  539. (08:39:43 AM) yama: This wasn't particularly unexpected. <.<
  540. (08:39:49 AM) Cheeseness: That's the most unhappy grin I've ever seen
  541. (08:40:11 AM) Cheeseness: How far out are we?
  542. (08:40:12 AM) Babar: this whole father thing was newly added, right?
  543. (08:40:24 AM) Northensnow: Barely scraping the surface
  544. (08:40:34 AM) GameClubFan_814984 [b2ca2bca@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  545. (08:40:53 AM) Northensnow: Yes, all the parts where you play as Nico are new
  546. (08:41:00 AM) Babar: what does Purchase Magic do?
  547. (08:41:00 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  548. (08:41:05 AM) Cheeseness: Feel free to continue discussing the game!
  549. (08:41:16 AM) Cheeseness: (no need to stop just because the stream has)
  550. (08:41:20 AM) GameClubFan_814984: I love the gam
  551. (08:41:20 AM) GameClubFan_814984: e
  552. (08:41:25 AM) GameClubFan_814984 is now known as Schmuppes
  553. (08:41:26 AM) yama: Yay! Good job on the stream, Mimness. ^^
  554. (08:41:28 AM) foboman: It was "purchase Music"
  555. (08:41:29 AM) Babar: I thought you were able to play as Nico...
  556. (08:41:34 AM) Babar: thanks for that
  557. (08:41:35 AM) Babar: oh
  558. (08:41:36 AM) Babar: misread that
  559. (08:41:39 AM) kickedit left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  560. (08:41:48 AM) Cheeseness: I'll have the stream archive and chat log up in the forum thread soon http://www.doublefine.com/forums/viewthread/9677/
  561. (08:41:48 AM) Mimness: Whew! Coolness!
  562. (08:41:49 AM) Babar: I also misread her saying "I need to get to the bathroom"
  563. (08:41:50 AM) elif_zibumi: Thanks Mimness. :)
  564. (08:41:52 AM) Naron: Thanks Cheese and Mim
  565. (08:41:54 AM) yama: I actually rather enjoyed what I saw. :o
  566. (08:41:54 AM) Cheeseness: Thanks Mimness!
  567. (08:41:57 AM) Babar: thanks for that :D
  568. (08:41:59 AM) Mimness: Thanks for coming ^_^
  569. (08:42:06 AM) yama: I got the game ages ago. I should play it some day.
  570. (08:42:12 AM) Cheeseness: We'll probably play a similar amount next week for anybody who's playing along in their own time
  571. (08:42:18 AM) Cheeseness: (which I hope is everybody :b )
  572. (08:42:18 AM) yama: Babar, I thought it said that, too. Ahah.
  573. (08:42:21 AM) AlexVSharp left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  574. (08:42:23 AM) Babar: hahah
  575. (08:42:28 AM) Mimness: There's heeeeeaps of dialogue and stuff I didn't do because we just don't have time - so it's totally worth having a play-through yourself
  576. (08:42:39 AM) Babar: will probably take 2 more sessions to complete, then
  577. (08:42:44 AM) Cheeseness: That's our target
  578. (08:42:50 AM) Babar: I actually have this game on GoG
  579. (08:42:56 AM) Babar: can't be bothered :(
  580. (08:43:05 AM) yama: I think I got all games on Steam.
  581. (08:43:08 AM) Cheeseness: Aww
  582. (08:43:12 AM) Northensnow: Without the death instances and some parts simplified, it shouldn't take that long
  583. (08:43:23 AM) Babar: there were death instances?
  584. (08:43:29 AM) yama: What?!
  585. (08:43:29 AM) foboman: Lots of them.
  586. (08:43:31 AM) Northensnow: Yes, three of them
  587. (08:43:36 AM) foboman: Only?
  588. (08:43:37 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  589. (08:43:38 AM) Babar: hm
  590. (08:43:46 AM) Northensnow: The train, the hill and the catacombs
  591. (08:43:46 AM) Babar: I don't remember that
  592. (08:43:52 AM) foboman: I remember far more. Guess because I kept dying.
  593. (08:43:52 AM) yama: Deaths have no place in my adventure games. :@
  594. (08:43:56 AM) Northensnow: I can't think of other parts where you could die
  595. (08:44:04 AM) Babar: me neither :D
  596. (08:44:06 AM) foboman: On the train you could die in two different occasions!
  597. (08:44:14 AM) foboman: So it counts double.
  598. (08:44:18 AM) Northensnow: Oh right, I forgot about that
  599. (08:44:25 AM) Babar: I...don't remember a train...
  600. (08:44:27 AM) Northensnow: and maybe in the final part
  601. (08:44:36 AM) foboman: Yes in the final part.
  602. (08:44:40 AM) foboman: And in the hotel.
  603. (08:44:55 AM) foboman: If you try to go out while steel having the document.
  604. (08:44:59 AM) foboman: still*
  605. (08:45:10 AM) Northensnow: Oh, right, that as well
  606. (08:45:15 AM) yama: I should get it on Wii because apparently there are no deaths in that version. :o
  607. (08:45:27 AM) foboman: Neither in this one they're playing (which is the same).
  608. (08:45:28 AM) elif_zibumi: I should play it again... It seems like I don't remember most of the game at all. :/
  609. (08:45:38 AM) Northensnow: As far as I know they removed them in all the versions of the Director's Cut
  610. (08:46:02 AM) foboman: Yes. All the versions of the Director's Cut are identical.
  611. (08:46:02 AM) Syd: I gotta head out. See you all around. :)
  612. (08:46:06 AM) Syd left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  613. (08:46:08 AM) Cheeseness: Thanks for coming, Syd!
  614. (08:46:21 AM) Babar: hahah
  615. (08:46:25 AM) Naron: Goodbye everyone
  616. (08:46:26 AM) Babar: you keep doing that
  617. (08:46:28 AM) Cheeseness: My hobby: Saying bye to people after they've already left
  618. (08:46:31 AM) yama: Cheeseness, gotta have that at least once every GC session. ;)
  619. (08:46:32 AM) Babar: g'bye Naron
  620. (08:46:41 AM) elif_zibumi: I should go too, bye eveyone. See you next week. ;)
  621. (08:46:42 AM) yama: Thanks for joining, Naron.
  622. (08:46:47 AM) Naron left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  623. (08:46:48 AM) ***Cheeseness waits for Naron to leave
  624. (08:46:50 AM) Cheeseness: lol
  625. (08:46:53 AM) Cheeseness: Thanks for coming, Naron!
  626. (08:46:55 AM) yama: See you around, elif_zibumi. ^^
  627. (08:47:03 AM) Cheeseness: Thanks for coming, elif_zibumi!
  628. (08:47:06 AM) Cheeseness: Woo!
  629. (08:47:13 AM) elif_zibumi left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  630. (08:47:21 AM) tennyo left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  631. (08:47:47 AM) yama: It's interesting to see different people joining for the different games played. :o
  632. (08:47:54 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, I love that :D
  633. (08:47:56 AM) Mimness: Why are we waiting for people to leave? Just mimpunch them out of the room
  634. (08:47:57 AM) yama: I wish everyone came for all games, though.
  635. (08:48:14 AM) Cheeseness: Mmm, but it's nice to bring some new dynamics in with each game :)
  636. (08:48:37 AM) yama: True. The people who do join are those who are interested in the game.^
  637. (08:49:07 AM) foboman: Or the ones who just got to know of this thing existance.
  638. (08:49:08 AM) Babar: I'm usually here DURING all the gameclubs
  639. (08:49:17 AM) Babar: rarely get a chance to actually participate, though
  640. (08:49:24 AM) Babar: I'd probably just complain about everything
  641. (08:49:26 AM) Cheeseness: It was nice to have you along ^_^
  642. (08:49:32 AM) yama: foboman, haha, well, you're welcome every session from now~
  643. (08:49:58 AM) yama: Everyone is even welcome to stick around!
  644. (08:49:58 AM) Mimness: Yeah, you're the elephant in the room Babar.
  645. (08:50:18 AM) Babar: :D
  646. (08:50:28 AM) Cheeseness: We get new regulars every now and again
  647. (08:50:40 AM) Cheeseness: But sometimes people have stuff on on the weekend and can't make it
  648. (08:50:54 AM) yama: So, is it just me or is there almost too much handholding in this game?
  649. (08:51:13 AM) salamanderrake left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  650. (08:51:13 AM) Northensnow: It gets harder later on
  651. (08:51:14 AM) Cheeseness: It doesn't feel like it leaves you to your own devices much
  652. (08:51:31 AM) Babar: handholding?
  653. (08:51:39 AM) Babar: does it do something more than the original?
  654. (08:51:56 AM) yama: The characters knew right away what was going on. There wasn't much for the player to figure out.
  655. (08:52:06 AM) yama: I haven't played any of the versions.
  656. (08:52:06 AM) Mimness: I wandered around more dazed and confused the first time I played it.
  657. (08:52:30 AM) yama: But even so, when you get to many points, the characters walk over there themselves and stuff like that.
  658. (08:52:45 AM) yama: And you're still locked into pretty few rooms.
  659. (08:52:58 AM) yama: So there doesn't seem to be much exploration.
  660. (08:53:25 AM) yama: Maybe I'm damaged from having played MI2 so much?
  661. (08:53:33 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  662. (08:53:45 AM) Northensnow: Broken Sword is a bit more cinematic, that's true
  663. (08:54:12 AM) Mimness: I did notice that during a bit that we'll play through next week. You go to a new area and sort of get locked there (you can't leave) until you figure it out. There's nothing in the story stopping you from leaving, it's just that you don't have the option.
  664. (08:54:17 AM) yama: I suppose BS and Full Throttle might be on a similar level of explorationness...
  665. (08:54:48 AM) yama: Mimness, I see.
  666. (08:55:29 AM) yama: Oh wells, it stills seems like a neat game. I'd probably enjoy playing it myself. ^^
  667. (08:55:38 AM) Cheeseness: It's in the current Humble Bundle!
  668. (08:55:48 AM) Mimness: Ya ya! Play it!
  669. (08:55:57 AM) yama: I had to leave to eat strawberries halfway so I'm not 100% spoiled. ;)
  670. (08:56:03 AM) Cheeseness: (as a beat the average title, but still, it's worth more than that)
  671. (08:56:13 AM) Cheeseness: Good. I hate spoiled yama
  672. (08:56:35 AM) yama: Yeah! It's as bad as spoiled Cheese.
  673. (08:56:35 AM) Mimness: Fresh yama is best
  674. (08:56:43 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  675. (08:57:15 AM) Cheeseness: I've got hourly stats for the current bundle as well if anybody's interested in seeing how it's gone over time http://cheesetalks.twolofbees.com/humble/ts/
  676. (08:57:38 AM) yama: I see that I've got three Broken Swords in my Steam. :)
  677. (08:57:40 AM) Northensnow: I wonder if we'll get to the goat in the next session...
  678. (08:57:56 AM) Cheeseness: That goat totally mimpunches George
  679. (08:58:03 AM) yama: Ahah. I've been wondering about the goat since the BS5 Kickstarter.
  680. (08:58:15 AM) Northensnow: They simplified that part as well ;_;
  681. (08:58:19 AM) yama: Too bad I'll be out of town next weekend. ;_;
  682. (08:58:26 AM) Cheeseness: There'll be an archive and chat log!
  683. (08:58:31 AM) Mimness: Aw, it'll save you from more spoilers
  684. (08:58:33 AM) Cheeseness: And you can talk about it in the forum thread
  685. (08:58:39 AM) Cheeseness: I love it when people talk about it in the forum thread ;_;
  686. (08:58:42 AM) yama: Ah, right. I forget about that since I'm usually always here.
  687. (08:58:46 AM) Cheeseness: Please talk about it in the forum thread
  688. (08:58:50 AM) Northensnow: Playing the Director's Cut kind of feels like cheating at times.
  689. (08:58:51 AM) Cheeseness: Every time you don't, a baby dolphin dies
  690. (08:59:05 AM) Cheeseness: Or gets mimpunched
  691. (08:59:07 AM) Mimness: I eat baby dolphins.
  692. (08:59:11 AM) Northensnow: That's one weird coincidence right there
  693. (08:59:13 AM) Mimness: Then write about it on the forum thread.
  694. (08:59:22 AM) Cheeseness: That brings them back to live
  695. (08:59:25 AM) Cheeseness: It's beautiful to watch
  696. (08:59:31 AM) Mimness: The miracle of the forums
  697. (08:59:51 AM) foboman: Well, time to go.
  698. (08:59:57 AM) Mimness: Writing in the forum thread also cures arthritis.
  699. (08:59:59 AM) Cheeseness: lol, we killed the discussion :D
