- Hello to all the members of the Shaftlands, new and old. Good things come and good things go. There is a time for things to begin, and there is a time for things to end. I created FixTree on November 30, 2010, almost 2 years ago, to help with fixing griefing, which was a large problem at the time. Alas, that is not the case anymore. There are plugins that automate the process of every block needing to be replaced, to automate the process for every fire to be put out, and every water block needing to be stopped at the source. As anti griefing plugins encroached more and more, The need for FixTree lessened and lessened.
- But I didn't want to face that fact. FixTree was my baby. FixTree was the reason I played on the Shaftlands, the reason I played Minecraft. FixTree was the reason to dig. I had to let it go, but I didn't. I turned my shoulder and refused to believe that was the case.
- Hey0, creator of Hm0d (the original Bukkit) stopped work on his wrapper, and the Shaftlands main map was put on hold until a stable version of Bukkit could be established. Bukkit took forever.
- Minecraft progressed, but Bukkit did not. New features were constantly added, and the active player cycle of the Shaftlands refreshed several times over. The current map (the alt map) was in place as a temporary map to serve as a placeholder, something to screw around on, until Bukkit was released, and the main map could be restored. FixTree didn't really attempt to gain a presence on this map, because the return of the main map was always right around the corner.
- By the time the main map coming back was even a factor, it would be hard to find a player who knew what the main map was, let alone one who played on it. All of the new players, who hadn't known anything but the alt map, became attached to the things they had built, and didn't want to see it go.
- But there were a few players who had stuck around, and who really wanted the chance to play on the main map again. So it was re-released, and it was open to the public.
- This lasted for a while, until it most new players realized there was no reason to build on the main map, because all of the players had left long ago. To the new players, the map was essentially left dead. The main map was locked, and all of the blocks and chests untouchable.
- This left the main map open solely as a museum, and was just a sad nostalgia trip for the old players to walk around on and reminisce.
- But the alt map was ugly. When it was created, it was created as a temporary map, so there was a lack of clear building instructions. So we needed something else. Thus began the construction of the soon dubbed "adventure map" because of the adventure update that it was to be released to the public with.
- 20,000 meters of road was placed down, just for a bunch of squabbling and butting heads, eventually to result in the scrubbing of that map.
- Then Spawn Island moved right into the picture, and boom, hello. It was there. And so were all the players.
- FixTree struggled to keep a presence throughout all this, but there was never much clarity on what FixTree was. It was more of a concept. It was an old team that had no use, refreshed over and over to the point of overuse. Everyone knew what FixTree was, but no one, not even me, was quite sure what it did.
- There is much more detail on the life of FixTree, maybe one day I'll write a very long, detailed tale of its long and rough journey through heaven and hell, but for now, It seems that the DWP community has separated from the server, and the podcast has separated too. The podcast became way too popular. The community faced division, and ridiculous arguments that honestly, create too much division for the game to continue to be fun.
- FixTree was created to help people. Not to be a drama pot. With the builders league and things like it, FixTree has been shaken apart and ripped at the seams, and I have loosely kept a dying concept together with thin, weak thread.
- It was a great 2 years, and I had hoped for more, but I just can't seem to see that there is any way out, any way that FixTree can be repaired. It has such a long history, and starting something new under its name just doesn't seem to work.
- FixTree is closing its doors. And along with FixTree, Rico is closing his doors as well. I came with FixTree, and I feel I should go out the same way; with it. I would like to request that the FixTree thread not be locked or deleted, in case I would like to try anything in new in the future.
- Again, it's been a great time, and I really enjoyed it. I want to thank all the friends I met and the people I talked to. I won't name names because I don't want to leave out anyone.
- A final cheers and goodbye,
