In 1992, Francis Ford Coppola remade the classic movie, Dracula. The movie sticks to its gothic origins and shares many similarities between the 1931. The 1992 version runs closer to the novel then the 1931 version; however both tell a gripping tale of vampire in the streets of London.
The movie begins in 1462 with Dracula [Gary Oldman] going to war to defend his country. After losing the war, the spiteful Turks sent Dracula’s wife, Elizabeta [Winona Ryder] a message telling of Dracula’s death. Not wanting to live in a world without him, Elizabeta commits suicide. When Dracula finds out about her death, priests tell him her soul is damned for taking her own life. Dracula renounces God becoming an unholy creature of the night.
1897, Jonathon Harker [Keanu Reeves] is told to complete the sale of 10 London properties with Count Dracula. The case comes up after the previous worker, R M Renfield [Tom Waits], went insane. Jonathon is sent to Transylvania where Count Dracula sees a picture of his wife, Mina. He recognises her as the reincarnation of his late fiancée, Elizabeta. Dracula imprisons Jonathon and sets out to London to take Mina as his bride.
When signs of vampirism start to show in Mina’s best friend, Lucy Westernra [Sadie Frost], her doctor gets help from his mentor, Professor Abraham Van Hellsing. He can tell immediately that she has been the victim of a Vampire. He sets on a hunt for Dracula, the original vampire in hope to safe Lucy’s soul. Meanwhile, Jonathon is trying to escape from Dracula’s castle and his vampire brides so that he can save Mina.
