Beinahe 15 Jahre sind vergangen, seitdem Hunter Isth miterleben musste, wie seine Tochter bei einem von angetrunkenen Teenagern verursachten Unfall ums Leben kam. Danach tauchte der gebrochene Mann unter. Wenn Jugendliche in dem kleinen Dorf ums Leben kommen, fällt der Verdacht stets auf ihn. Als die gerade aus der Psychiatrie entlassene Jem von ihren Freunden zu einem Campingwochenende im Wald überredet wird, überschlagen sich die Ereignisse: Ein Serienkiller schlägt zu, der die Handschrift von Hunter Isth trägt.

Die "Cabin in the Woods" bekommt Besuch von einem kleinen, schmutzigen Verwandten, der sich zwar wenig um Meta-Ebenen kümmert, dafür aber sehr effektiv auf seine Weise die Geschichte vom entfesselten Psycho auf der Jagd nach unschuldigen Teenagern erzählt, also vom Schema eher "Ich weiß was du letzten Sommer getan hast" oder "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane" ähnelt. Jason Christopher erweist sich trotz erkennbar niedrigem Budgets für seinen Film als versierter Handwerker, der die Spannungsblöcke der Story überzeugend realisiert.
