- Indiana Pacers officials and players say they're happy with the new uniforms designed by Olympic sprinting champion Florence Griffith Joyner.
- The uniforms, to be used starting next season, debuted Wednesday in Indianapolis.
- ``I wanted to change to something they never had before,'' says Joyner, winner of three gold medals in 1988. Wednesday, she wore a Pacers broach and had her fingernails painted in team colors.
- ``We knew it would be a dramatic uniform,'' says club president-general manager Donnie Walsh, who commissioned Griffith Joyner's designs.
- Griffith Joyner sketched more than 50 designs last summer and submitted 20 to the Pacers.
- Biggest changes: a new logo, darker team colors of blue and gold, and the jersey is a V-neck.
- ``I think the lighter colors didn't give us the flash, the go-get-'em attitude,'' says forward Chuck Person. ``It feels great.''
- Says guard Reggie Miller: ``I think it gives us a more aggressive look.''
- Miller praised the uniform's shorts, which are nearly knee-length. ``I like to wear my shorts long,'' he says. ``I'm sure it will catch on.''
- The team changed the logo, from a hand shooting a basketball to a basketball in motion.
- ... ``It's a uniform for the '90s, and I think we're a team for the '90s.''
- - Donnie Walsh, Indiana Pacers president and general manager
