  1. In 1981 in the sleepy town of Adams, Nebraska was an amateur young adult astronomer named Andy Tucson. He lived alone in the end of the town where he spent most of his days (and nights) stargazing with his telescope. He had always dreamed of one day seeing something extraordinary such as a UFO or new planet, but of course he knew he was an amateur for now so could only gaze. However, on the 22nd April of that year, Andy was observing the black heavens at one in the morning, where the night was at its inkiest. He spotted out of the corner of his eye an orange glow, and when he focused on it after it dotted out of sight for a moment he knew it was a meteor from his stargazing guide.
  2.
  3. He observed the meteor with fascination and fear as it was definitely the most interesting thing he had seen with his telescope. But also it appeared to be heading towards him. Lifting his eye of the scope, he took a step back as the space rock shot down, appearing closer and closer, until he ran inside his house with his jaw dropped and breathing got louder, his heart pumping to get him to safety. There was a crash as loud as a thick glass smashing, and it appeared to be over before he knew it. Before his eyes was an ashy impact site with a few fiery embers slowly vanishing in the cold air around it. His heart was still thrashing wildly, as he wasn’t sure what to expect next. He had seen sci-fi movies in the past involving alien life forms bursting out of crashed meteors, but if there were any aliens in this rock they must have been too small to harm him, as there was simply only ash left.
  4.
  5. Andy then realized who it was worth visiting tomorrow because of this, Professor Dylan, who taught Andy at his university. As Andy hurried off to bed to get a good night’s sleep before driving to meet Dylan, his mind was still fixed on the sound of the meteor crashing and the sight of its seemingly dull impact site. As he dozed off into the dream world, Andy thought his fearful senses would quiet down. He was wrong; they got worse, far worse. He had seen an uncommon and scary natural phenomenon, but now the shock that remained from that was growing into an aftershock nightmare.
  6.
  7. In his dream, he saw several strange looking puppets or models that moved like stop motion animation and unpredictably, like spiders do when you throw something near them, they move a bit over there then stop, then may move in another way then stop. The figures were seen in black and white; with numerous blurs and flashes that popped up at random times making it generally difficult to properly see them. The figures appeared one after the other in the dream. There were also some indescribable sounds that played over the nightmare, they were loud but also felt faint at the same time which was very odd, but Andy tried to focus more on the figures.
  8.
  9. The first figure looked the most realistic out of them all. An astronaut like model sitting down, moving its head from side to side, then getting up and walking along a gray rocky landscape then staring directly at Andy’s viewpoint. The spaceman’s face looked dull, dead and emotionless, and if it really was a puppet you couldn’t tell what it’s face or suit was meant to be made of. Andy could only guess clay but then switched to thinking wool, then Paper Mache then back to wool. Alongside the humming noise there was even more faint music that played in the background sounded like something that would play in a 1950s sci-fi horror film.
  10.
  11. Then after a brief flash of light the dream took Andy to the next puppet. This one was much more eerie was a female doll that looked a lot less human like sitting on a chair with a wall behind. It had a flat head and thin arms that it kept swaying round and round. Its eyes looked soulless and emotionless at times, but sometimes they would switch to look mischievous, with the doll staring into Andy’s eyes like the spaceman. The music this time sounded like Victorian gothic music or vampire like, the kind of music people from such a time would have despised. The doll got off its chair and walked towards Andy, and that’s when he heard it speak in an English accent that sounded like a woman pleased with something, but it was in utter gibberish. Thoughts of many meteors smashing into his house while he slept burst into his mind along with this dolls movements, so feeling most anxious, Andy shook his eyes until a fade came along taking him to the final figure.

  13. Appearing before him was a frog-like hand puppet with one eye open and one half closed that was sitting in a jar playing a banjo like instrument. The frog stared at the already terrified astronomer during the entire duration of its appearance. Despite being a supposed hand puppet, the frog’s fingers moved while it played the instrument, something which only a hand puppeteer with fingers that branched into more fingers could do. The music the frog figure played sounded nothing like a banjo and wasn’t even synched up. It sounded more like something that would play during a ritual sacrifice, somewhat drum like but with some low haunting violin sounds. The frog then opened its wide mouth then slammed it shut without a sound just as Andy thrashed to escape the chilling vision.
  14.
  15. Andy breathed with relief when he saw he was back in his warm, comfy bed. He switched on his bedside lamp, seeing the time was 3am. He let himself sink back into his mattress. He was most pleased that it was just a nightmare, but he still felt his muscles twitching. The shock of the space rock was still there, leaving his body reactions prepared for anymore danger. He felt annoyed his mind wouldn’t let go of the whole incident, but at that moment he began to wonder what his dream meant. Sure the meteor must of traumatized him, but what was with the spine chilling puppets? What did they have to do with an alien rock from the stars?
  16.
  17. Well the spaceman came first and that figure was the closet thing to space. But why was it puppet-like? Why didn’t it look more like a realistic spaceman, or maybe an alien like spaceman? And why the even more different themed “vampire” female doll and the frog musician that followed up, they just got more surreal and out-of-place as they went along. Andy had never really had any memories of seeing creepy dolls or puppets, but since this nightmare was his first experience with them he could realize how creepy they were.
  18.
  19. Feeling overwhelmed with the unclear entities, he decided to let them go and just fall back asleep. He switched off his light and dozed off once more, still, it was hard for him to let go of the disturbing meteor crash which just kept on hanging on like an imposter shadow, and it kept on building up to the point his warm bed felt cold. His last thought was that he could see PTSD or something like that coming along from it all.
  20.
  21. And most unfortunately, the nightmare came back when he fell asleep. This time it was more disturbing. Andy was in his backyard observing the skies again, when he heard the music the frog was playing, and he spotted a figure appear behind the foliage at the back of his yard, and then vanish just as he could focus on it. He then saw the impact site again. It was about three times as larger this time, and he felt heat fly onto his face just looking at it. He then heard a voice that made him jump off his seat. The voice of the female puppet, an English accent speaking complete meaningless words and sounds sounding pleased, he was able to pick up some of the dialogue. “Mwnuh, ellahmahahanora, d’juhnukia…” It was beyond any words, English or not, that he knew. He turned around to his door where the voice came from, seeing two faces that had somehow leapt to the very front of his eyes. One smiling maliciously, the other showing no emotion whatsoever. “ARRRGH!” he screamed. Andy jumped out of bed, and was greeted by rays of morning sun and birds tweeting. Sinking back down, he felt like he never wanted to sleep again if his mind was now fixed on repeating nightmares. To check if he still wasn’t dreaming, he pinched himself, and didn’t awake. He was certainly in reality.
  22.
  23. Once he had let himself enter the comfort of daylight, he thought about whom to visit today for help. He remembered he was going to visit Professor Dylan today, and he was highly experienced in both astronomy and mental health. So he could ask him any questions about this meteor incident and also his recurring nightmare issues that had come up fast. Before leaving the house he checked on the impact site. It was just as big as in his nightmare, which made him feel quite unsettled. Dreams couldn’t predict the future could they? At that point for a split second Andy caught a glimpse of three faces appearing in the bushes, although only brief, he recognized them as being identical to the ones in his dream. They appeared to move closer, the spaceman looking emotionless, the doll smiling and the frog playing its banjo and opening its wide mouth.
  24.
  25. He made a run for his car, desperate to get to Dylan. If these entities were real but appeared in his dreams first there were something not right here, and why would these things be real? They were living puppets. He turned back to the side of his house where he rushed, and there was no sight of anything. He couldn’t tell if he was seeing things or not, but the thought of him hallucinating assured him they weren’t real.
  26.
  27. Upon arriving at Dylan’s lab house he explained his whole story. Dylan told him they were in a meteor season and knew seeing such an event that close up could leave even him traumatized for a while. Andy then told him the nightmarish figures in his dreams and if they had anything to do with the ongoing trauma despite seemingly having particularly no connection to it. Dylan thought for a while, saying it would make sense to have nightmares about meteors instead of puppets, and did a test on Andy and proved he was not hallucinating when he saw the figures in real life. That made Andy gulp and shiver to the point he gripped onto his chair once he realized those creatures were not just mind images. Andy went off to think what the actual hell they could have been while Dylan looked both very excited and very concerned. It made him bring up a bizarre theory one of the former professors he worked with in the past had made up. This theory was called the “Diverse Multiverse” theory.
  28.
  29. The theory stated that there could be countless, if not an infinite amount of universes that exist beyond our own, and the three puppet figures were from a universe where living organisms made up of cells, flesh and skin were more simple, being able to live without organic matter so were puppet or effigy like, and also more “advanced” (the frog being able to play music). Andy thought that theory was mind blowing but somewhat silly, but trusted Dylan still since he was higher than him with such knowledge. He then asked what the figures were doing with their strange behaviour, but that question was beyond the professor. He could only say that being from another universe things that seem utterly meaningless could be completely normal acts to them. Andy continued to clutch his chair. He had no idea what powers these beings possessed, they could probably do anything, their very presence in a dimension other than their own could make it collapse on itself. The thoughts flooded his head to the point Andy couldn’t cope. Dylan told him to calm down, and that this could be exciting. “This could make the headlines!” Dylan told him. “Or the apocalypse,” Andy shuddered. Dylan looked concerned again, but told Andy to take a rest as he wasn’t able to get too much sleep from his nightmares.
  30.
  31. As Andy slept, he still couldn’t get rid of the thoughts. He wished he never became an astronomer, he wished he was just indoors when the meteor hit, then this would have never happened. He would be awoken by the rock landing, but certainly it wouldn’t be as traumatic as he wasn’t as close. At that point he heard a sound like tiny footsteps, which was followed by a voice similar to an astronaut speaking on a radio but saying gibberish. Then a feminine voice speaking like it was pleased with something, but again in gibberish. Then music just like the one the frog was playing in the tape. Andy shot out of bed like he had the worst nightmare ever, but this one was of course real. There were the three puppets standing in the doorway looking up at him, clear as daylight now. They all had a look of malice on their faces.
  32.
  33. The poor man glued his eyes to the effigies, shivering so much he looked like he’d shatter as he was in a state of deathly panic. He wished even more he should have never become a stargazer, he knew he should of just left the stars alone. He was about to scream and yell for Dylan, but his mouth did not open. He tugged his bottom jaw down but with no anvil. His mouth had cemented shut, and he thrashed about to escape from his bed, but he banged his head above him and fell back down, as if there was an invisible force field that had trapped him. Just as he looked up, feeling like his head had rammed into metal, he saw the three figures standing at the end of his bed as if they teleported there, and that’s when he passed out from fright and exhaustion.
  34.
  35. Later Dylan went to check if he was awake, but as soon as he opened his door there was no sight of Andy, he had vanished into nothingness. Worried, Dylan lifted up his covers and was horrified to find nothing but bloody cysts that made him vomit at the sight and smell of them, he vomited so much that scarlet blood began to come out in his yellowish-green sick, and the cysts suddenly exploded sending an acidic substance into his eyes that burnt him blind. His screams were what attracted the attention of the neighbours. He rushed around his kitchen screaming louder and louder every second, until he picked up a bottle of bleach which he mistook for water and poured it into his eyes, but the extreme misuse of another powerful acid caused him to screech even more ear splittingly and make him accidently swallow some of the deadly liquid.
  36.
  37. The police were called and broke in, finding Dylan dead on the floor, his eyes now hollow sockets with stains of blood coming out. His throat had white patches that had burnt through the skin, with the bleach bottle in his hand. They were easily able to conclude he died from drinking the bleach and probably as a result of his eyes burning out. However were baffled beyond belief as the mysterious cysts had vanished leaving them unsure as to what blinded him, and no other chemicals were found that could have caused his eye attack. They also found the notes he had made about the whole incident involving Andy which they knew nothing about. Though the notes said Andy was with him he was nowhere to be found. The case would remain unsolved for a time that was as long as anyone’s guess. And as the police studied the scene of the crime, none of them noticed three faces hiding in the shadows watching them.
